This study explores various approaches to formulating a parallel hybrid model (HM) for Water and Resource Recovery Facilities (WRRFs) merging a mechanistic and a data-driven model. In the study, the HM is constructed by training a neural network (NN) on the residual of the mechanistic model for effluent nitrate. In an initial experiment using the Benchmark Simulation Model no.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is particularly common in the elderly, including those with cognitive impairments. We need to stress the importance of early detection to better understand the specific signs of this disorder in the elderly. Psychotherapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing are being explored for their effectiveness and adaptability with the elderly.

Background: Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia in the intensive care unit (ICU) and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Identification of patients at risk for AF is not routinely performed as AF prediction models are almost solely developed for the general population or for particular ICU populations. However, early AF risk identification could help to take targeted preemptive actions and possibly reduce morbidity and mortality.

Background: While modular reconstruction implants can be used to replace the bone lost after bone tumor resection, tumor excision from the neighboring soft tissues can lead to loss of strength and joint range of motion (ROM), which results in worse knee function. Functional recovery after total knee arthroplasty for osteoarthritis has been extensively documented. But few studies have evaluated the recovery after total knee reconstruction following tumor excision despite the fact that most of these patients are young and have high functional demands.

Background: Beta-lactam antimicrobial concentrations are frequently suboptimal in critically ill patients. Population pharmacokinetic (PopPK) modeling is the golden standard to predict drug concentrations. However, currently available PopPK models often lack predictive accuracy, making them less suited to guide dosing regimen adaptations.

Several studies have highlighted the impact of environmental factors such as food type or larval density on the development of blowfly larvae. We investigated how changes in development speed (due to larval density and group composition) are divided among feeding and post-feeding stages. Even if these parameters impinge only on feeding larvae, they may ultimately also affect their subsequent development, and especially metamorphosis duration.

Background: The learning curve cumulative summation test (LC CUSUM test) allows to define an individualized learning curve and determine the moment when clinical proficiency is attained. After acquisition of the skills, the cumulative summation test (CUSUM test) allows to monitor the maintenance of the required level over time. The LC CUSUM test has been frequently used in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology (Ob/Gyn) for several procedures, but only once for OR.

Since accurate quantification of 2-deoxy-2-F-fluoro-D-glucose ([F]FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) requires dynamic acquisition with arterial input function, more practical semi-quantitative (static) approaches are often preferred. However, static standardized uptake values (SUV) are typically biased due to large variations in body weight (BW) occurring over time in animal studies. This study aims to improve static [F]FDG PET SUV quantification by better accounting for BW variations in rats.
