Background: Histologically assessed liver fibrosis stage has prognostic significance in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and is accepted as a surrogate endpoint in clinical trials for non-cirrhotic NAFLD. Our aim was to compare the prognostic performance of non-invasive tests with liver histology in patients with NAFLD.
Methods: This was an individual participant data meta-analysis of the prognostic performance of histologically assessed fibrosis stage (F0-4), liver stiffness measured by vibration-controlled transient elastography (LSM-VCTE), fibrosis-4 index (FIB-4), and NAFLD fibrosis score (NFS) in patients with NAFLD.

Objectives: To describe the characteristics, treatment and outcome of isolated ANCA-associated scleritis at diagnosis compared with idiopathic scleritis with negative ANCA tests.
Methods: This retrospective multicentre case-control study was performed within the French Vasculitis Study Group (FVSG) network and in three French tertiary ophthalmologic centres. Data from patients with scleritis without any systemic manifestation and with positive ANCA results were compared with those of a control group of patients with idiopathic scleritis with negative ANCA tests.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the value of subtraction imaging on post-arterial phase images (i.e., portal venous, delayed/transitional and hepatobiliary phases) for the non-invasive diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in spontaneously hyperintense nodules on T1-weighted imaging in patients with cirrhosis.

Background: Prophylactic central neck dissection in clinically low-risk cT1bT2N0 papillary thyroid carcinoma is controversial, due to a large number of conflicting retrospective studies, some showing an advantage in terms of locoregional recurrence, others showing no advantage. These previous studies all show high rates of excellent response. We aim to demonstrate the non-inferiority of thyroidectomy alone as compared to total thyroidectomy with prophylactic central neck dissection in conjunction with adjuvant RAI 30 mCi with rTSH stimulation in terms of excellent response at 1 year.

Background: Advanced-stage cutaneous T-cell lymphomas (CTCLs) are rare, usually refractory, and fatal diseases. Case series have suggested that allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) might improve the prognosis of advanced-stage CTCLs. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of allogeneic HSCT compared with non-HSCT therapy on the outcome of individuals with advanced-stage CTCLs.

Introduction: In 2016, the American Academy of Pediatrics defined the brief resolved unexplained event (BRUE) of high and low risk to characterize fainting in infants under 1 year of age. In the case of low-risk BRUE, it is recommended to perform no further systematic examination, but to monitor the child with a saturometer in the emergency room for 1-4 h.
Objective: The objective of this study was to identify events corresponding to high- and low-risk BRUE criteria for infants admitted to the Angers University Hospital Center, and to analyze their medical care.

Introduction: The prevalence and risk factors of anxiety and depression symptoms in relatives of moderate to severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) survivors have not been thoroughly investigated.
Methods: Ancillary study of a multicentric prospective randomized-controlled trial in nine university hospitals in 370 moderate-to-severe TBI patients. TBI survivor-relative dyads were included in the 6th month of follow-up.

Importance: Delayed admission of patients with surgical emergencies to the operating room occurs frequently and is associated with poor outcomes. In France, where 3 distinct organizational pathways in hospitals exist (a dedicated emergency operating room and team [DET], a dedicated operating room in a central operating theater [DOR], and no dedicated structure or team [NOR]), neither the incidence nor the influence of delayed urgent surgery is known, and no guidelines are available to date.
Objective: To examine the overall frequency of delayed admission of patients with surgical emergencies to the operating room across the 3 organizational pathways in hospitals in France.

Objective: Apraxia is the inability to perform voluntary, skilled movements following brain lesions, in the absence of sensory integration deficits. Yet, patients with neurodegenerative diseases (ND) may have sensory integration deficits, so we tested the associations and dissociations between apraxia and sensory integration.
Methods: A total of 44 patients with ND and 20 healthy controls underwent extensive testing of sensory integration (i.

Background: Cardiac arrest (CA) following CO poisoning (CO-induced CA) exposes patients to an extremely high risk of mortality and remains challenging to treat effectively. Terminal carboxyhemoglobin elimination half-life (COHbt) is critically affected by ventilation, oxygen therapy, and cardiac output, which are severely affected conditions in cases of CA.
Case Presentation: Asystole occurred in an 18-year-old woman after unintentional exposure to CO in her bathroom.

Introduction: Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is an autoimmune disease characterised by thrombosis (arterial, venous or small vessel) or obstetrical events and persistent antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL), according to the Sydney classification criteria. Many studies have performed cluster analyses among patients with primary APS and associated autoimmune disease, but none has focused solely on primary APS. We aimed to perform a cluster analysis among patients with primary APS and asymptomatic aPL carriers without any autoimmune disease, to assess prognostic value.

Background: Unique blood culture (UBC) has been proposed to limit the number of venipuncture and to decrease the risk of BC contaminations (BCC) without affecting their yield. We hypothesized that a multi-faceted program based on UBC in the ICU may reduce the rate of contaminants with a similar performance for bloodstream infections (BSI) identification.
Methods: In a before and after design, we compared the proportion of BSI and BCC.

Background: Liver biopsy for the diagnosis of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is limited by its inherent invasiveness and possible sampling errors. Some studies have shown that cytokeratin-18 (CK-18) concentrations may be useful in diagnosing NASH, but results across studies have been inconsistent. We aimed to identify the utility of CK-18 M30 concentrations as an alternative to liver biopsy for non-invasive identification of NASH.

The role of extracellular vesicles (EVs) from faeces (fEVs) and small circulating EVs (cEVs) in liver diseases such as non-alcoholic fatty diseases (NAFLD) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) has not been demonstrated. fEVs and cEVs of healthy donors, NAFLD and NASH patients were isolated and characterized. The effects of EVs were evaluated in intestinal, endothelial, Kupffer and stellate cells.

Aim: To test the association between perinatal inflammation exposure and Full-Scale IQ (FSIQ) score 7 years after neonatal arterial ischaemic stroke (NAIS).
Method: We conducted a cross-sectional ancillary study nested in a multicentric longitudinal French cohort of infants born at term with NAIS between November 2003 and October 2006. Seventy-three children were included (45 males, 28 females).

Malingue's diamond-shaped skin plasty is a random skin plasty derived from the Z-plasty. Not widely known, this technique is an alternative to fasciectomy in Dupuytren's disease. The main objective of the present study was to analyze the topographical and anatomical differences between Z-plasty and Malingue plasty in cadaveric and experimental models and the geometrical and mathematical differences in modeling, in order to determine the respective gains in length.
