Iodocycloisomerization/Nucleophile Addition Cascade Transformations of 1,2-Alkynediones.

J Org Chem

February 2023

Natural Products and Medicinal Chemistry Division, CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR-IIIM), Canal Road, Jammu 180001, Jammu and Kashmir, India.

A general electrophilic iodocyclization/nucleophile addition cascade transformation for 1,2-alkynediones for the synthesis of various oxygen heterocycles and access to regioselective alkyne hydroxylation is reported. Furan-tethered ynediones resulted in the construction of -enol ethers via carbonyl-alkyne cyclization-initiated heteroarene dearomatization, whereas other (hetero)arene-, alkenyl-, and alkyl-tethered ynediones resulted in the formation of highly functionalized 3(2)-furanones. Importantly, the developed domino protocols involve the construction of important heterocyclic scaffolds and installation of two functional groups in a single operation.

Background: Considering the normalisation of moderate aggression within organisations and the concern of violent occurrences being under-reported in India, violence reflected through coercive language appears to be more frequent than explicit acts of organisational violence.

Aim: To bring-forth consolidated evidence on the prevalence of violent communication within Indian organisations.

Method: 1433 articles obtained from four major databases (PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, Web of Science and Google scholar), complemented by 4 records identified through manual searching, were screened according to the PRISMA guidelines.

Purpose: The feasibility of machine learning (ML) techniques and their performance compared to the conventional χ-minimization technique in the context of the proton energy-resolved dose imaging method are presented.

Materials And Method: Various geometries resembling a wedge and varying gradients are simulated in GATE to obtain energy-resolved dose functions (ERDF) from proton beams of different energies. These ERDFs are used to predict the WEPL using a conventional technique and other ML-based methods.

Knowledge on the processes controlling the vertical distribution of microplastics (MPs) in estuaries is less. This research was carried out to determine the MP distribution in the surface, middle, and bottom layers of the Udyavara River Estuary in southwest India. The mean (± standard deviation) concentrations were 320.

Introduction: The ongoing Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has had a huge mental health impact on people, especially the infected population. They are at greater risk of developing psychological symptoms due to the fear of death and developing severe disability, lack of proper treatment and social restrictions, stigma, and discrimination. The early psychological symptoms, if ignored, may have long-term consequences on the health and well-being of COVID patients.

Vaccine hesitancy plays a crucial role in worldwide pandemic-control efforts. The multifaceted nature of vaccine hesitancy entails many psychological factors that are widely discussed in the literature, although few studies specifically compile these factors. Thus, this systematic review aims to synthesize the psychological factors contributing to vaccine hesitancy.

Article Synopsis
  • * Eighteen compounds were tested and confirmed to enhance NRF2 activation, disrupting its inhibitory interaction with KEAP1, which is pivotal for inflammatory response regulation.
  • * The compounds showed notable anti-inflammatory effects in specific cell lines, effectively reducing levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines and metabolites, while demonstrating good metabolic stability in liver microsomes across different species.

Natural products, natural product-inspired molecules and natural product derivatives have contributed around 79% to the new chemotherapies against the most complex, deadly disease, cancer. In this study, a series of novel isoxazoline derivatives of Goniodiol diacetate (fused bicyclic pyranone isoxazoline derivatives)- a natural product derivative, were synthesized with quantitative yield as a single regioisomer by 1,3 - dipolar cycloaddition reaction with different aldoximes. The regiospecific product formed was confirmed by NOESY study and single-crystal X-ray diffraction.

Conformations of disulfides are conserved in inhibitory cystine knot (ICK) motif polypeptides.

Toxicon

November 2022

Department of Chemistry, School of Chemical Sciences, Central University of Karnataka, Kalaburagi, Karnataka, 585367, India. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • The inhibitory cystine knot (ICK) motif is a unique and stable structure found in various organisms, characterized by a specific arrangement of disulfide bonds among cysteine residues that creates a knotted shape.
  • Analysis of crystal and NMR structures shows that the conformation of the disulfides in ICK is highly conserved, with distinct patterns observed in both methods: X-ray structures show a majority of specific conformations, while NMR reveals some variability.
  • The consistent conformation across different structural techniques suggests that the ICK motif has evolved for optimal function, maintaining its structural integrity despite variations in 3D forms.

Background: Urinary extracellular vesicles (UEVs) hold RNA in their cargo and are potential sources of biomarkers for gene expression studies. The most used technique for gene-expression studies is quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). It is critical to use stable reference genes (RGs) as internal controls for normalising gene expression data, which aren't currently available for UEVs.

Background: In a world where education directly influences the quality of life of an individual, educational handicaps are a grave issue that plagues the lives of those affected. The current study aims to find out whether there is a difference in the cognitive style and working memory capacity among adolescents with specific learning disability (SLD) in comparison to their age-matched equivalent group without SLD. The study also targets to find out if there exists any relationship between cognitive style and working memory.

Background: Though quarantine is a pertinent control measure for the spread of COVID-19, it is equally important to consider its negative impacts, as it causes severe psychological, emotional, and financial problems not only for those who are quarantined but also for many others who are directly or indirectly connected to those who are quarantined. There appears to be a need to synthesise the available literature evidence on the psychological impact of quarantine experience, especially the multilevel risk factors that make individuals vulnerable to psychological impact and the protective factors to deal with the negative effects of quarantine.

Objective: This systematic review attempted to identify the various psychological impacts associated with the experience of quarantine, the risk and protective factors and list out various psycho-social interventions that can minimise the risks and facilitate the protective factors associated with the experience of quarantine.

We consider a single molecular transistor in which a quantum dot with local electron-electron and electron-phonon interactions is coupled to two metallic leads, one of which acts like a source and the other like a drain. The system is modeled by the Anderson-Holstein (AH) model. The quantum dot is mounted on a substrate that acts as a heat bath.
