Anacardic acid (6-pentadecylsalicylic acid, AA), a natural compound isolated from the traditional medicine Amphipterygiumadstringens, has been reported as potential antitumor agents in various cancers including prostate cancer (PC). However, the effects and mechanism of AA on the radiosensitivity of prostate cancer remains unknown. The results indicated that AA exhibited strong antitumor activity in PC cell lines, either as a single agentor in combination with radiation.

Deregulated microRNAs and their roles in tumorigenesis have attracted much attention in recent years. Although miR-503 has been reported to be aberrant expression in several cancers, its role in glioma remains unknown. In this study, we focused on the expression and mechanisms of miR-503 in glioma development.

Background: The chemokine CXCL12 and its receptors CXCR4 and CXCR7 play important roles in cancer invasion and metastasis. This study investigated the mRNA expressions of CXCL12, CXCR4, and CXCR7 to illustrate the role of these biomarkers in breast cancer metastasis and prognosis.

Methods: The mRNA expressions of CXCL12, CXCR4, and CXCR7 in 115 primary breast cancer and regional lymph node specimens were detected by quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore how chromosome imbalances relate to taxol resistance in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC).
  • Researchers established taxol-resistant cell lines by exposing NPC cells to increasing doses of paclitaxel and analyzed changes in chromosome copy numbers and gene profiles.
  • Results showed that certain chromosome regions were consistently altered in resistant cell lines, and the gene ANGPT1 was identified as potentially linked to increased taxol resistance in NPC cells.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the synergistic anti-tumor effects of tumstatin 185-191 and cisplatin in non-small cell lung carcinoma cells (NSCLC) (A549 cells and cisplatin resistant A549/DDP cells), and the potential role of Akt signaling pathway was also explored.

Methods: A549 or A549/DDP cells were treated with Tum185-191 or Tum185-191 plus cisplatin. Cell viability was assessed by modified MTT assay.

Spatial and temporal differences of HMGB1 expression in the pancreas of rats with acute pancreatitis.

Int J Clin Exp Pathol

May 2016

Department of Gastrointestinal and Pancreatic Surgery, Third Xiangya Hospital, Central South University Changsha 410013, Hunan, China.

We aimed to investigate the spatial and temporal differences in expression between HMGB1 and early-stage inflammatory cytokines (IL-1, IL-6 and TNF-α) in pancreas tissue in rats with acute pancreatitis. SD rats (BW 350 ± 30 g, n = 48) were randomly divided into the experimental group (n = 36) which were injected with 5% sodium taurocholate into the bilipancreatic duct retrogradely to produce acute necrotic pancreatitis (ANP) rat models, and the sham-operated (SO) group (n = 12) injected with equal dose of saline. The rats were sacrificed at different time points at 0 h, 3 h, 6 h, 12 h, and 24 h post modeling, respectively.
