Frailty is a condition characterized by increased vulnerability to adverse health outcomes, particularly among older adults. With the significant prevalence of hypertension and the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) in this demographic, it is essential to explore their potential combined effects on frailty. This cross-sectional study utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning 1999-2020, involving 13,465 hypertensive adults aged 60 and above.

Background: Flavonoids are naturally occurring dietary phytochemicals with significant antioxidant effects aside from several health benefits. People often consume them in combination with other food components. Compiling data establishes a link between bioactive flavonoids and prevention of several diseases in animal models, including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, gut dysbiosis, and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD).

The layer-stacking mode of a two-dimensional (2D) material plays a dominant role either in its topology or properties, but remains challenging to control. Herein, we developed alkali-metal ion-regulating synthetic control on the stacking structure of a vinylene-linked covalent triazine framework (termed spc-CTF) for improving hydrogen peroxide (HO) photoproduction. Upon the catalysis of EtONa in Knoevenagel polycondensation, a typical eclipsed stacking mode (spc-CTF-4@AA) was built, while a staggered one (spc-CTF-4@AB) was constructed using LiOH.

Objectives: To investigate the effects of suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid (SAHA) on lung fibroblast activation and to examine the role of p66Shc in this process.
Methods: An in vitro pulmonary fibrosis model was established using transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β)-induced MRC-5 lung fibroblasts. The proliferation and migration capacities of MRC-5 cells, along with the expression of fibrosis-related genes, were assessed following treatment with SAHA and/or silence of p66Shc.

Gut microbiome is crucial for lipid metabolism in humans and animals. However, how specific gut microbiota and their associated metabolites impact fat deposition remains unclear. In this study, we demonstrated that the colonic microbiome of lean and obese pigs differentially contributes to fat deposition, as evidenced by colonic microbiota transplantation experiments.

Objectives: To investigate the inhibitory effect of GSK484, a PAD4 inhibitor, on H3Cit expression following sepsis and its effects for improving sepsis-induced endothelial dysfunction.
Methods: Eighteen C57BL/6 mice were randomized into sham-operated group, sepsis model group and GSK484 treatment group (6), and in the latter two groups, models of sepsis were established by cecal ligation and puncture (CLP). The mice in GSK484 treatment group were given an intraperitoneal injection of GSK484 (4 mg/kg) on the second day following the surgery.

Although 1,6-enynes are common substrates for these transformations, using polysubstituted alkene derivatives to construct functionalized cyclic products remains challenging due to their significantly lower reactivity. This highlights key developments in stereoselective semi-intramolecular metal-catalyzed [(2+2)+1] and [(2+2)+2] carbocyclizations of 1,6-enynes containing 1,1-disubstituted alkenes, which produce cycloadducts with quaternary stereogenic centers.

However, most of the biomass-derived CDs only show bright fluorescence in diluted solution because of aggregation-induced quenching effect, hence cannot exhibit solid-state long-lived room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) in ambient conditions. Herein, matrix-free solid-state RTP with an average lifetime of 0.

Osteosarcoma tissues demonstrated elevated expression of proteins (FDX1 and DLAT) integral to cuproptosis in our preliminary study, indicating the potential effectiveness of anti-tumor strategies predicated on this process. Nevertheless, the overexpression of copper export proteins and the challenge of copper ion penetration may contribute to insufficient local copper ion concentration for inducing cuproptosis. Herein, we engineered a biomimetic copper-elesclomol-polyphenol network for the efficient delivery of copper ions and the copper ionophore elesclomol.

Actuators based on electrically conductive and hydrophilic two-dimensional (2D) TiCT MXene are of interest for fast and specific responses in demanding environments, such as chemical production. Herein, TiCT -based solvent-responsive bilayer actuators were developed, featuring a gradient polymer-intercalation structure in the active layer. These actuators were assembled using negatively charged pristine TiCT nanosheets as the passive layer and positively charged polymer-tethered TiCT as the active layer.

Metallo-organic cages possess flexibility comparable to that of biological receptors and can alter their conformations to better accommodate guest species due to the dynamic reversibility of the coordination bond. Induced fit is widely accepted involving conformation change of the host, while few definitive examples are related to conformation selection. Herein, we report the generation of metallo-organic cube Cd L with two coexisting conformations, which have been fully confirmed by NMR, ESI-MS and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.

The efficient realization of a closed-loop process is an ultimate goal for reusing spent lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), yet the complicated recycling processes of leaching and purification in an acid atmosphere are totally different compared with the regeneration method of the cathode precursor in alkali solution, inevitably resulting in the redundant consumption of acid/ammonia solutions and increased burden for a green environment. Herein, considering the advantages of selective extraction and similar chemical surroundings for recovery and regeneration, ammonia-leaching has been proposed to achieve short-process closed-loop recycling with effective impurity removal. Particularly, benefiting from the galvanic cell interaction, the sluggish reaction rate and relatively harsh reaction conditions of ammonia-leaching are well addressed.

The timely recognition of pneumothorax during painless flexible bronchoscopy (PFB) can be challenging. This report describes two consecutive cases of pneumothorax following PFB, both of which were promptly identified and successfully treated. A sudden decrease in heart rate, combined with hypoxemia, is highly effective for detecting pneumothorax in patients undergoing PFB, with subcutaneous emphysema serving as a key auxiliary diagnostic sign.
