We report the solvent-evaporation and ionic cross-linking mediated self-assembly of the shell cross-linked micelles of the amphiphilic triblock copolymer containing middle poly(methyl methacrylate) block (hydrophobic) and poly(2-dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate end blocks (hydrophilic) on the membrane substrate to create molecular selective channels. The formation of selective channels on the substrate is attributed to the local increase of micelle concentration upon solvent evaporation, which leads to the core-core hydrophobic interaction. The post-ionic cross-linking of the shell part further reduces the intermicelle distance, thereby creating interstices for selective separation.

This study investigates the impact of solvent post-treatment on polyamide-based thin film composite (TFC) membranes, specifically examining the effect on commercial nanofiltration (NF) and reverse osmosis (RO) membranes. NaSO rejection and increase in pure water permeance (PWP) were considered as the output parameters. The disparity in Hansen solubility parameters (HSP) between the post-treatment solution and the polyamide layer of the TFC membrane, denoted by Ra, is well adapted to understand the enhancement in water permeance through the membranes upon treatment.

Fluorinated proton-exchange membranes (PEMs) based on graft copolymers of dehydrofluorinated polyvinylidene fluoride (D-PVDF), 3-sulfopropyl acrylate (SPA), and 1H, 1H, 2H-perfluoro-1-hexene (PFH) were prepared via free radical copolymerization and characterized for fuel cell application. The membrane morphology and physical properties were studied via small-(SAXS) and wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS), SEM, and DSC. It was found that the crystallinity degree is 17% for PEM-RCF (co-polymer with SPA) and 16% for PEM-RCF-2 (copolymer with SPA and PFH).

We report the construction of amphiphilic conetwork (APCN)-based surfaces with potent antimicrobial activity and biofilm inhibition ability. The construction strategy is based on the separation of lipophilic alkyl groups (>C6) from the cationic network to obtain good antibacterial properties. The reaction of partially alkylated poly(vinyl imidazole) with the activated halide compounds followed by coating a glass or poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) sheet leads to the formation of the APCN surface.

Catalysts consisting of metal-metal hydroxide/oxide interfaces are highly in demand for advanced catalytic applications as their multicomponent active sites will enable different reactions to occur in close proximity through synergistic cooperation when a single component fails to promote it. To address this, herein we disclosed a simple, scalable, and affordable method for synthesizing catalysts consisting of nanoscale nickel-nickel oxide-zinc oxide (Ni-NiO-ZnO) heterojunctions by a combination of complexation and pyrolytic reduction. The modulation of active sites of catalysts was achieved by varying the reaction conditions of pyrolysis, controlling the growth, and inhibiting the interlayer interaction and Ostwald ripening through the efficient use of coordinated acetate and amide moieties of Zn-Ni materials (), produced by the reaction between hydrazine hydrate and Zn-Ni-acetate complexes.

The present study explores the endophyte associated with the halophyte Salicornia brachiata for uncovering new biologically important compounds. Thus, HPLC-PDA guided chemical investigation of the ethyl acetate extract of the Bacillus subtilis NPROOT3 led to the isolation of a new compound named bacillinaphthin A (1) along with previously known rubinaphthin A (2). The structure of 2 was determined by a comparison of HR-ESI-MS, H and C nuclear magnetic resonances (NMR) with those of reported data, whereas the structure of new compound 1 was elucidated by interpretation of 1D- and 2D-NMR and MS data.

The bacterial endophytes isolated from the halophyte Salicornia brachiata were explored for the antimicrobial potential to discover novel microbial inhibitors that combat multidrug resistance. Upon investigation, ethyl acetate extract of the endophyte Bacillus subtilis NPROOT3 displayed significant potency against Mycobacterium smegmatis MTCC6 as well as Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv strain. Further investigation of ethyl acetate crude extract by repeated chromatographic separations followed by characterization using UV, HR-ESI-MS, MALDI-MS, MALDI-MS/MS, CD, and NMR spectroscopy yielded a series of five known siderophores, namely, SVK21 (1), bacillibactin C (2), bacillibactin B (3), tribenglthin A (4), and bacillibactin (5).

Pore environment modulation with high-density polarizing groups in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) can effectively accomplish selective and multicyclic carbon dioxide (CO) adsorption, whereas the incorporation of task-specific organic sites inside these porous vessels promise to evade self-quenching, solubility, and recyclability issues in hydrogen-bond donating (HBD) catalysis. Lipopeptide (LP) biosurfactants from microbes have the potential to gradually replace chemical synthetic surfactants and fit the contemporary green and sustainable industrial production concept. However, their active participation is comparatively low in the global market pertaining to their low yield in microbial broth and costly downstream processes arising due to tedious isolation and purification methods.
