The diagnostics of occult inflammation foci up to day remains the major and complicated problem in almost each clinical discipline. Whole-body scintigraphy and SPECT studies with 99mTc-autoleucocytes show silent foci of inflammation and infection. 68 patients (24 females and 44 males) aged 14-59 years with non-localized inflammatory diseases were evaluated.

Three hundred and ninety eight patients with different diseases of the liver and biliary tract were examined on the basis of the complex use of latest technologies of magnetic resonance imaging (dynamic contrast MRI, MR-arterio- and venoportography, MR-cholangiopancreatography), which yield all necessary information during one study to design surgical treatment. The study was conducted by using a Magnetom Vision 1.5T apparatus (Siemens).

The results of ultrasound study were analyzed in 148 and 26 patients with acute small and intestinal obstruction, respectively, the causes of the latter included different diseases of the intestine and abdominal organs. The commonest ultrasound symptoms based on the diameter of the bowel, on the thickness and structure of the intestinal wall, on the status of mucosal motility folds of intestinal loops and on the pattern of motility were defined. They enable one to differentiate large and small intestinal obstruction and to define its degree with a high degree of validity.

In 1990-2000, percutaneous transhepatic cholangiodrainage was performed in 89 patients with obstructive jaundice of tumoral etiology: Groups A (n = 21) under roentgenoscopic guidance and Group B (n = 68) under ultrasound guidance (USG). The efficiency and safety of puncture of the biliary tract were comparatively evaluated in these groups. The technical success of the procedure was achieved in 81.

The purpose of the present study was to determine the capacities of differential diagnosis of the bulky masses of the brain by positron emission tomography (PET) with 11C-butyrate by the direct indication--the tumor RFP level measured by means of the semiquantitative indicator--the differential accumulation coefficient (DAC). For comparison, 18FDG PET widely used to detect malignant tumors was preliminarily made. Brain PET was performed in 86 patients (45 males and 41 females whose age ranged from 18 to 69 years to identify bulky masses or to rule out continuous tumor growth.

The paper examines the informational value of positron emission tomography (PET) using 18FDG in the diagnosis of malignant of neoplasms of the pancreas and in the estimation of the extent of a metastatic involvement. Forty-four patients (26 males and 18 females whose age ranged from 28 to 60 years) with histologically verified cancer of the pancreas were examined. The study was conducted in the whole body mode on an Ecat Exact 47 positron emission tomograph following 70-90 minutes of administration of 18FDG, 370-420 MBk.

The aim of the study was to evaluate sensitivity and specificity of positron emission tomography (PET) and 18F-fluorodesoxyglucose (18F-FDG) in breast cancer diagnosis and to assess tumor dissemination. Sixty two patients were examined: 10 without mammary disease, 10 with fibrous cystic mastopathy, and 42 with breast cancer, which was hystologically verified. PET scanning was recorded in the "Whole body" mode 70-90 min later administration of 370-420 MBq 18F-FDG.

Myocardial viability in patients with coronary artery disease and heart failure was assessed by echocardiography with low doses of dobutamine and positron emission tomography with Sodium 11C-butyrate. Sensitivity and specificity of those methods were compared. Positron emission tomography and Sodium 11C-butyrate had quite high sensitivity and specificity, which could be compared with positron emission tomography and fluorine-18-deoxyglucose.

A method of US hydrocolonoscopy with the use of multicomponent contrast medium has been applied to examine 76 patients with tumors of the straight intestine and segmented one. Cancer has been diagnosed in 56 patients, benign tumors in 19 patients, lymphosarcoma of the blind gut has been revealed in one case. It is stated that a complex US examination of the straight and segmented intestines has a number of additional diagnostic potential in a visualization of the wall thickness, structure, tumor size and in a determination of the lesion length as compared with other radiation methods of observation.
