Phenylketonuria (PKU) is characterized by an autosomal recessive mutation in the phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH) gene. Impaired PAH enzyme activity leads to the accumulation of phenylalanine (Phe) and its metabolites in the bloodstream, which disrupts the central nervous system and causes psychomotor retardation. Early diagnosis of PKU is essential for timely intervention.

Printable mesoscopic perovskite solar cells (p-MPSCs) provide an opportunity for low-cost manufacturing of photovoltaics. However, the performance of p-MPSCs is severely compromised by iodine defects. This study presents a strategy by incorporating polyaniline (PANI) to achieve both iodine recycling and iodine defect passivation to significantly improve the performance of p-MPSCs.

Anode-less sodium metal batteries (SMBs) suffer from the formation of Na dendrites and inactive Na on an anode substrate though showing advantages of high energy densities and low costs. Herein, N,O co-doped carbon spheres (NOCS), which are synthesized via a scalable polymerization and pyrolysis method, are employed as a thin and stable sodiophillic nucleation layer on the Cu foil. Combined with electrochemical measurements, Na deposition morphology observations and density functional theory calculations, it is revealed that the introduced N and O heteroatoms can greatly enhance the adsorption of Na on the carbon substrate and reduce the nucleation overpotential, thus forming sufficient seeding sites and guiding homogeneous Na deposition.

In recent years, porphyrins have been frequently reported as photocatalysts due to their fascinating photochemical properties. However, porphyrins have the same shortcomings as other homogeneous photocatalysts, such as poor stability and difficulty in recovering. To solve this problem, it is a good strategy to form a porphyrin-based metal-organic framework (PMOF) by modifying porphyrin functional groups and adding metals as nodes to connect and control the arrangement of porphyrins.

Incorporating a third component through ternary copolymerization strategy has proven to be a promising and effective approach for further improving the device performance of polymer donors. However, terpolymer donors typically exhibit negative effects on molecular stacking and weaken charge transport due to the irregular distribution of the polymer skeleton. Herein, two terpolymers PBBQ-5 (5% ff-Qx) and PBBQ-10 (10% ff-Qx) are developed by introducing the difluoro-2-(3-hexyldecyloxy) quinoxaline (ff-Qx) to the main chain of PM6.

The well-defined structures of SAzymes make them well predictable by experiences and theoretical calculation. However, the effects of metal center species and coordination environments on enzyme-like activity are variable, and screening catalytic activity by artificial experiments is challenging.

As global demand for clean and sustainable energy continues to rise, fuel cell technology has seen rapid advancement. However, the presence of trace impurities like carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) in hydrogen fuel can significantly deactivate the anode by blocking its active sites, leading to reduced performance. Developing electrocatalysts that are resistant to CO and H₂S poisoning has therefore become a critical priority.

Previous studies have identified attenuated pre-speech activity and speech sound suppression in individuals with Schizophrenia, with similar patterns observed in basic tasks entailing button-pressing to perceive a tone. However, it remains unclear whether these patterns are uniform across individuals or vary from person to person. Motivated by electroencephalographic (EEG) data from a Schizophrenia study, we develop a generalized functional linear mixed model (GFLMM) for repeated measurements by incorporating subject-specific functional random effects associated with multiple functional predictors.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a major cause of acute respiratory tract infections in infants and elderly individuals, leading to hospitalisation and potentially fatal outcomes, posing a serious threat to global health and economy. This study proposes a smartphone-based mobile digital pressure sensor (smartphone-MDPS) for the quantitative detection of the RSV fusion protein (RSV-F) in clinical nasopharyngeal samples. The smartphone-MDPS utilized two monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) specific to the F protein, of which mAb1 was conjugated with Au@PtNPs (Au@PtNPs-mAb1) as the detection antibody and mAb2 was coupled with magnetic beads (MB-mAb2) as a coating antibody to establish a novel sandwich immunoassay.

We report a direct application of the molecular tailoring approach-based (MTA-based) method to calculate the individual hydrogen bond (HB) energy in molecular crystal. For this purpose, molecular crystals of nitromalonamide (NMA) and salicylic acid (SA) were taken as test cases. Notably, doing a correlated computation using a large molecular crystal structure is difficult.

Several groups of neurons in the NTS suppress food intake, including Prlh-expressing neurons (NTS cells). Not only does the artificial activation of NTS cells decrease feeding, but also the expression of Prlh (which encodes the neuropeptide PrRP) and neurotransmission by NTS neurons contributes to the restraint of food intake and body weight, especially in animals fed a high fat diet (HFD). We used animals lacking PrRP receptors GPR10 and/or GRP74 (encoded by Prlhr and Npffr2, respectively) to determine roles for each in the restraint of food intake and body weight by the increased expression of Prlh in NTS neurons (NTS mice) and in response to the anorectic PrRP analog, p52.
