Forward osmosis (FO) driven by osmotic pressure difference has great potential in water treatment. However, it remains a challenge to maintain a steady water flux at continuous operation. Herein, a FO and photothermal evaporation (PE) coupling system (FO-PE) based on high-performance polyamide FO membrane and photothermal polypyrrole nano-sponge (PPy/sponge) is developed for continuous FO separation with a steady water flux.

Article Synopsis
  • Intermediate wheatgrass (IWG) is introduced as a sustainable and nutrient-rich ingredient for breadmaking, with the study focusing on its effects when mixed with traditional wheat flour.
  • The research tested bread made with varying levels of IWG flour (15%, 30%, 45%, and 60%) and compared these to conventional white bread, measuring factors such as gluten quality, bread characteristics, and nutritional properties.
  • Results showed that incorporating IWG enhanced gluten content, improved phenolic and antioxidant levels, and produced bread with better volume and lower firmness, highlighting IWG's potential as a healthy, innovative ingredient in baking.

The friction stir welding (FSW) process was recently developed to overcome the difficulty of welding non-ferrous alloys and steels. In this study, dissimilar butt joints between 6061-T6 aluminum alloy and AISI 316 stainless steel were welded by FSW using different processing parameters. The grain structure and precipitates at the different welded zones of the various joints were intensively characterized by the electron backscattering diffraction technique (EBSD).

Structural characterization of potato starch modified by a 4,6-α-glucanotransferase B from Lactobacillus reuteri E81.

Int J Biol Macromol

July 2023

King Abdulaziz University, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Industrial Engineering, 21589 Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Electronic address:

The recent reports have revealed that increase in amount of α-1,6 linkages by modification of potato starch with enzyme (glycosyltransferases) treatment gains slowly digestible properties to the starch; however, the formation of new α-1,6-glycosidic linkages diminish the thermal resistance of the starch granules. In this study, a putative GtfB-E81, (a 4,6-α-glucanotransferase-4,6-αGT) from L. reuteri E81 was firstly used to produce a short length of α-1,6 linkages.

The occurrence, mobilization, and origin of Potentially Toxic Eelements (PTEs) in the environment is always a difficult research question that has not been fully addressed to date; solving this problem would be a major achievement for environmental science and pollution research, a significant scientific breakthrough, and an important contribution to environmental analysis and monitoring. The lack of a holistic methodology that uses chemical analysis to determine the origin of each PTE in the environment is the main motivation for this project. Therefore, the hypothesis tested here is to develop a scientific approach applied to each PTE to determine whether its origin is geogenic (i.

Removal of quartz from iron ore was accomplished industrially via an anionic reverse flotation technique. However, in that kind of flotation, the interaction of the flotation reagents with the components of the feed sample makes the flotation a complicated system. Thus, the selection and optimization of regent dosages at various temperatures were performed using a uniform experimental design to estimate the optimum separation efficiency.

Sluggish redox kinetics and shuttle effect of polysulfides hinder the extensive application of the lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs). Herein a functional heterostructure of boron nitride (BN) and MXene with an alternately layered structure (BN@MXene) is designed as separator interlayer. High efficiency Li transmission, uniform lithium deposition, strong adsorption, and efficient catalytic conversion activities of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) realized by this heterostructure are confirmed by experiments and theoretical calculations.

The production, distribution and use of copper objects and the development of metallurgical skills in Neolithic Northern Central Europe and Southern Scandinavia are linked to early centres of copper metallurgy of South East Central Europe and Southeast Europe. A total of 45 Neolithic copper objects, until now the largest sample of Early Neolithic objects from the Northern Central European Plain and Southern Scandinavia, were selected for new lead isotope analyses. They aided in the identification of the origin of the copper: These new analyses indicate that the copper ore deposits in Southeastern Europe, especially from the Serbian mining areas, were used for the Early Neolithic northern artefacts (ca.

Physical Chemistry Department, Electrochemistry and Corrosion Lab., National Research Centre, El-Bohouth St. 33, Dokki, P. O. 12622, Giza, Egypt.

Powder metallurgy (PM) is a technique that involves the manufacturing of metal powders and their consolidation into finished products or components. This process involves the mixing of metal powders with other materials such as ceramics or polymers, followed by the application of heat and pressure to produce a solid, dense material. The use of PM has several advantages over traditional manufacturing techniques, including the ability to create complex shapes and the production of materials with improved properties.

Electronic address:

In recent years, electrochemical oxidation (EO) shows the characteristics of green and high efficiency in removing chemical oxygen demand (COD) and ammonia nitrogen (NH-N) from wastewater, which has been favored by researchers. However, at present, most of current studies on EO remain in laboratory stage, reports about pilot-scale or even industrial tests with large treatment capacity are few, which slowing down the use of the advanced technology to practical application. In this study, bench-scale tests, pilot-scale tests (treatment capacity 200-500 L/h), and industrial tests (treatment capacity 100 m/h) were carried out by EO technology in view of the characteristics of tungsten smelting wastewater (TSW) with high salinity (NaCl), COD, and NH-N.

The human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) hormone is a biomarker that can predict tumors and early pregnancy; however, it is challenging to develop sensitive qualitative-quantitative procedures that are also effective, inventive, and unique. In this study, we used a novel easy reaction of an organic nano-linker with Zn(NO)·6HO and HAuCl·3HO to produce a gold-zinc-salen metal-organic framework composite known as Au-Zn-Sln-MOF. A wide variety of micro-analytical instruments and spectroscopic techniques were used in order to characterize the newly synthesized Au-Zn-Sln-MOF composite.
