Elevated thyroid autoantibodies as risk factors for metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease in type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Objective: This study aims to explore the relationship between thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb) and thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb) levels and metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), providing a theoretical basis for MAFLD prevention and treatment.

Methods: From June 2020 to May 2023, 534 T2DM patients were selected from the Endocrinology Department of Xiangyang Hospital affiliated with Wuhan University of Science and Technology. After applying exclusion criteria, 432 subjects were included.

Methods: This cross-sectional study used baseline data from the Lifestyle and Healthy Ageing in Chinese Square Dancers study. Chinese adapted MIND diet scores were calculated from a detailed retrospective semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire assessment.

Machine learning for predicting in-hospital mortality in elderly patients with heart failure combined with hypertension: a multicenter retrospective study.

Background: Heart failure combined with hypertension is a major contributor for elderly patients (≥ 65 years) to in-hospital mortality. However, there are very few models to predict in-hospital mortality in such elderly patients. Objective: Bioinformatics methods were applied to investigate the pivotal genes and regulatory networks associated with atherosclerotic carotid artery stenosis (ACAS) and provide new insights for the treatment of this disease.

Methods: The study utilized five ACAS datasets (GSE100927, GSE11782, GESE28829, GSE41571, and GSE43292) downloaded from the NCBI GEO database. The first four datasets were combined as the training set ( = 99), while GSE43292 ( = 64) was used as the validation set.

Disulfidptosis, a newly discovered programmed cell death process, is linked to the actin cytoskeleton, which plays a vital role in maintaining cell shape and survival. Mechanisms by which spinal cord stimulation intervenes in atrial fibrillation: The involvement of the endothelin-1 and nerve growth factor/p75NTR pathways.

Can the spinal cord stimulation (SCS) regulate the autonomic nerves through the endothelin-1 (ET-1) and nerve growth factor (NGF)/p75NTR pathways and thus inhibit the occurrence of atrial fibrillation (AF)? In our research, 16 beagles were randomly divided into a rapid atrial pacing (RAP) group ( = 8) and a RAP + SCS group ( = 8), and the effective refractory period (ERP), ERP dispersion, AF induction rate, and AF vulnerability window (WOV) at baseline, 6 h of RAP, 6 h of RAP + SCS were measured. The atrial tissue was then taken for immunohistochemical analysis to determine the localization of ET-1, NGF, p75NTR, NF-kB p65, and other genes. Our results showed that SCS attenuated the shortening of ERP in all parts caused by RAP, and after 6 h of SCS, the probability of AF in dogs was reduced compared with that in the RAP group.

A case misdiagnosed as hyperthyroid heart disease: Surgical repair of unroofed coronary sinus syndrome with severe tricuspid regurgitation.

Unroofed coronary sinus syndrome (URCS), also known as coronary sinus septal defect, is a rare congenital heart disease. Because of its special anatomy and the lack of typical clinical symptoms, the disease is easily missed and misdiagnosed. This case report particularly describes a middle-aged male patient with URCS misdiagnosed for more than 19 years, covered by hyperthyroid heart disease, who subsequently developed uncontrollable symptoms such as chest tightness and shortness of breath and came to our hospital.

Analysis of risk factors for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in hospitalized children with obesity before the late puberty stage.

Objective: This study aimed to determine the clinical characteristics of obese pediatric non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in central China and verify the applicability of some known risk factors for pediatric NAFLD before late puberty.

Methods: This was a retrospective case-control study. A total of 1,029 inpatients at Wuhan Children's Hospital before the late puberty stage were enrolled in the study, including 815 children with obesity (non-NAFLD group) and 214 children with obesity and NAFLD (NAFLD group) diagnosed by liver ultrasound.

Background: Clinically amyopathic deramatomyositis was manifested as the various cutaneous dermatomyositis (DM) manifestations without muscle weakness. Anti-melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5 (anti-MDA5) and anti-Ro52 antibody-dual positive clinically amyopathic DM patients are at a high risk of developing rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease, and they exhibit an immensely high half-year mortality.
