Article Synopsis
  • Sun hemp fibers, sourced from plants in India, are natural lignocellulosic fibers composed of hemicelluloses, cellulose, and lignin, and undergo chemical treatment to improve their properties for use as reinforcement.
  • The study assessed the thermal stability and kinetic parameters of alkaline-treated sun hemp fibers using thermo gravimetric data with heating rates of 10, 20, and 30 °C/min, applying multiple model-free methods (KAS, FWO, FM, STAR) alongside the Distributed Activation Energy Model (DAEM).
  • The activation energy calculated from these methods ranged from 93.3 to 104.8 kJ/mol, with the pre-exponential factor being between 46.6 x

The development of sp -carbon-linked covalent organic frameworks (sp c-COFs) as artificial photocatalysts for solar-driven conversion of CO into chemical feedstock has captured growing attention, but catalytic performance has been significantly limited by their intrinsic organic linkages. Here, a simple, yet efficient approach is reported to improve the CO photoreduction on metal-free sp c-COFs by rationally regulating their intrinsic π-conjugation. The incorporation of ethynyl groups into conjugated skeletons affords a significant improvement in π-conjugation and facilitates the photogenerated charge separation and transfer, thereby boosting the CO photoreduction in a solid-gas mode with only water vapor and CO .

Ultrabroadband Imaging Based on Wafer-Scale Tellurene.

Adv Mater

May 2023

State Key Laboratory of Optoelectronic Materials and Technologies, Nanotechnology Research Center, School of Materials Science & Engineering, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, Guangdong, 510275, P. R. China.

High-resolution imaging is at the heart of the revolutionary breakthroughs of intelligent technologies, and it is established as an important approach toward high-sensitivity information extraction/storage. However, due to the incompatibility between non-silicon optoelectronic materials and traditional integrated circuits as well as the lack of competent photosensitive semiconductors in the infrared region, the development of ultrabroadband imaging is severely impeded. Herein, the monolithic integration of wafer-scale tellurene photoelectric functional units by exploiting room-temperature pulsed-laser deposition is realized.

Experimentally conducted reactions between CO and various substrates (, ethylenediamine (EDA), ethanolamine (ETA), ethylene glycol (EG), mercaptoethanol (ME), and ethylene dithiol (EDT)) are considered in a computational study. The reactions were previously conducted under harsh conditions utilizing toxic metal catalysts. We computationally utilize Brønsted acidic ionic liquid (IL) [EtNH]HSO as a catalyst aiming to investigate and propose 'greener' pathways for future experimental studies.

Nitrogen oxides (NO ≡ NO + NO) play a central role in air pollution and are targeted for emission mitigation by environmental protection agencies globally. Unique challenges for mitigation are presented by super-emitters, typically with the potential to dominate localized NO budgets. Nevertheless, identifying super-emitters still challenges emission mitigation, while the spatial resolution of emission monitoring rises continuously.

Galanin is a neurohormone as well as a neurotransmitter and plays versatile physiological roles for the neuroendocrine axis, such as regulating food intake, insulin level and somatostatin release. It is expressed in the central nervous system, including hypothalamus, pituitary, and the spinal cord, and colocalises with other neuronal peptides within neurons. Structural analyses reveal that the human galanin precursor is 104 amino acid (aa) residues in length, consisting of a mature galanin peptide (aa 33-62), and galanin message-associated peptide (GMAP; aa 63-104) at the C-terminus.

As a glycerol-based polyester, poly(glycerol azelaic acid) (PGAz) has shown great potential for biomedical applications, such as tissue engineering. However, it tends to show low mechanical strength and a relatively fast biodegradation rate, limiting its capability of mimicking and supporting a broad range of hard tissues such as bone. Moreover, the typical thermal curing process of poly(glycerol--diacids) is one of their drawbacks.

During the past decades, many researchers have tried to encapsulate medicines in biopolymer nanogels as injectable medicines. In the present study, dual-responsive bovine serum albumin (BSA)-loaded nanogels prepared from sodium alginate grafted poly (N-vinyl caprolactam) (PNVCL) have been reported. First, PNVCL-g-sodium alginate (PNVCL-g-Alg) was synthesized through free radical polymerization, and then nanogels were obtained from ionic crosslinking of sodium alginate in the presence of BSA.

Dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs), similar to artificial muscles, are widely applied in the fields of robotics and biomedical devices. In this work, 3-mercaptopropyl ethyoxyl di(tridecyl-pentaethoxy) silane (Si747)-modified BaTiO (BTO) nanoparticles (denoted as Si747@BTO) were utilized as dielectric filler to improve the dielectric constant while epoxy soybean oil (ESO) was employed as a plasticizer to decrease the elastic modulus, with the aim of improving the actuation performance of epoxy natural rubber (ENR) composites. The participation of Si747 in the vulcanization reaction of ENR led to the formation of covalent bonds between BTO and ENR chains, resulting in a uniform dispersion of BTO nanoparticles in the ENR matrix.
