In the chemistry community, catalytic asymmetric synthesis of furan-based compounds bearing both axial and central chirality has proven to be a significant but challenging issue owing to the importance and difficulty in constructing such frameworks. In this work, we have realized the first catalytic asymmetric synthesis of five-five-membered furan-based compounds bearing both axial and central chirality via organocatalytic asymmetric (2+4) annulation of achiral furan-indoles with 2,3-indolyldimethanols with uncommon regioselectivity. By this strategy, furan-indole compounds bearing both axial and central chirality were synthesized in high yields with excellent regio-, diastereo-, and enantioselectivities.

June 2024

School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, Graduate School of Carbon Neutrality, Graduate School of Semiconductor Materials and Devices Engineering, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), Ulsan, 44919, Republic of Korea.

The study presents the binder-free synthesis of mixed metallic organic frameworks (MMOFs) supported on a ternary metal oxide (TMO) core as an innovative three-dimensional (3D) approach to enhance electron transport and mass transfer during the electrochemical charge-discharge process, resulting in high-performance hybrid supercapacitors. The research demonstrates that the choice of organic linkers can be used to tailor the morphology of these MMOFs, thus optimizing their electrochemical efficiency. Specifically, a NiCo-MOF@NiCoO@Ni electrode, based on terephthalic linkers, exhibits highly ordered porosity and a vast internal surface area, achieving a maximum specific capacity of 2320 mC cm, while maintaining excellent rate capability and cycle stability.

Electrocatalytic Water Oxidation Activity-Stability Maps for Perovskite Oxides Containing 3d, 4d and 5d Transition Metals.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

November 2023

State Key Laboratory of Inorganic Synthesis and Preparative Chemistry, College of Chemistry, Jilin University, 130012, Changchun, China.

Improving catalytic activity without loss of catalytic stability is one of the core goals in search of low-iridium-content oxygen evolution electrocatalysts under acidic conditions. Here, we synthesize a family of 66 SrBO perovskite oxides (B=Ti, Ru, Ir) with different Ti : Ru : Ir atomic ratios and construct catalytic activity-stability maps over composition variation. The maps classify the multicomponent perovskites into chemical groups with distinct catalytic activity and stability for acidic oxygen evolution reaction, and highlights a chemical region where high catalytic activity and stability are achieved simultaneously at a relatively low iridium level.

August 2023

Key Laboratory of Biomass Chemical Engineering of Ministry of Education, College of Chemical and Biological Engineering, Zhejiang University, 310027, Hangzhou, China.

Electrosynthesis of H O has great potential for directly converting O into disinfectant, yet it is still a big challenge to develop effective electrocatalysts for medical-level H O production. Herein, we report the design and fabrication of electrocatalysts with biomimetic active centers, consisting of single atomic iron asymmetrically coordinated with both nitrogen and sulfur, dispersed on hierarchically porous carbon (Fe -NS/C). The newly-developed Fe -NS/C catalyst exhibited a high catalytic activity and selectivity for oxygen reduction to produce H O at a high current of 100 mA cm with a record high H O selectivity of 90 %.
