STT3-mediated aberrant N-glycosylation of CD24 inhibits paclitaxel sensitivity in triple-negative breast cancer.

Acta Pharmacol Sin

December 2024

Department of Medical Laboratory, Tongji Medical College, Central Hospital of Wuhan, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, 430014, China.

Paclitaxel is one of the main chemotherapic medicines against triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) in clinic. However, it has been perplexed by paclitaxel resistance in TNBC patients, resulting in a poor prognosis. Abnormal protein glycosylation is closely related to the occurrence and progression of tumors and malignant phenotypes such as chemotherapy resistance.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the subtypes of spiritual well-being among patients with early-stage lung cancer, examine the characteristics of each subtype, and determine the relationship between spiritual well-being and perceived social support as well as hope within these subtypes.

Methods: A sample of 418 patients with early-stage lung cancer from three hospitals in Hubei Province completed the general sociodemographic questionnaire, the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Spiritual Well-Being, the Perceived Social Support Scale, and the Herth Hope Index. Latent profile analysis (LPA) was used to identify the patterns of spiritual well-being in patients with early-stage lung cancer, and influencing factors of different patterns were identified by univariate analysis and multinomial logistic regression analysis.

Background: The treatment of recurrent tracheal adenoid cystic carcinoma (TACC), a rare pulmonary malignant tumor, typically involves bronchoscopic interventional therapy for patients ineligible for surgery or external radiotherapy. This report describes an innovative treatment approach for TACC, initially managed with interventional bronchoscopy and subsequently with a Y-shaped airway stent loaded with I seeds, following recurrence after 2 years.

Case Presentation: A 50-year-old man presented with intermittent coughing for 2 months and was admitted to the hospital after the discovery of TACC a month earlier.

Article Synopsis
  • Myocardial infarction (MI) is linked to a higher risk of developing atrial fibrillation (AF), and the gut metabolite phenylacetylglutamine (PAGln) may play a role in this connection.
  • Research showed that after an MI, administering PAGln to mice led to increased atrial fibrosis and electrical changes, making them more susceptible to AF.
  • PAGln was found to worsen intestinal dysfunction and may influence AF risk through mechanisms involving ferroptosis and the NLRP3 inflammasome.

Objective: Imbalances in liver lipid metabolism and inflammatory reactions driven by oxidized lipid deposition in blood vessels constitute the core of atherosclerosis. Insufficient degradation of cholesterol in the liver promotes oxidative modification of lipid particles and their deposition on the blood vessel wall in the peripheral circulation. The blood vessel wall engulfs and processes oxidized low-density lipoprotein (Ox-LDL) as foreign matter through pattern recognition receptors, ultimately forming lipid-encapsulated plaques.

Engineered biomimetic nanovesicles-laden multifunctional hydrogel enhances targeted therapy of diabetic wound.

Mater Today Bio

December 2024

Department of Hand Surgery, Union Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong, University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, 430022, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Angiogenesis is crucial for healing diabetic wounds, and endothelial progenitor cell-derived extracellular vesicles (EPC-EVs) can enhance this process, but their use is limited by low yield and targeting issues.
  • The study developed biomimetic nanovesicles (EPC-NV) from EPCs and modified them with cRGD peptides (mEPC-NV) for better targeting of endothelial cells.
  • A dual hydrogel network was created that combined an acellular dermal matrix with light-cured gelatin to sustainably release mEPC-NV while providing antioxidant and antibacterial properties, making it a promising approach for diabetic wound treatment.

Background: Studies have found that RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) are participated in the occurrence or development of tumours. However, the role of processing of precursor family (POP family) in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) has not been studied yet. Here, we analyzed the expression and prognostic value of POP family in ccRCC analyzed and subsequently revealed the relationship between POP7 and immune infiltration in ccRCC patients.

The study aims to examine the effect of FABP4 on inflammatory response and angiogenesis in the cell model of atherosclerosis and to explore its potential mechanism.Using reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and western blotting, the mRNA and protein levels of FABP4 in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) treated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) or oxidized low-density lipoprotein for 6, 12, 24, or 48 hours were measured. To silence FABP4 expression and NF-κB signaling in HUVECs, FABP4 inhibitor and NF-κB inhibitor were utilized.

Neuroradiology

November 2024

Department of Radiology, Medical Imaging Institute of Tianjin, Tianjin First Central Hospital, School of Medicine, Nankai University, Tianjin, 300192, China.

Purpose: To explore the neurovascular mechanisms of white matter hyperintensities (WMHs)-related cognitive impairment by introducing a neurovascular biomarker, neurovascular coupling (NVC).

Methods: We applied resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging combined with arterial spin labeling to investigate the NVC dysfunctional patterns in patients with pure WMHs. Partial correlation, mediation, and exploratory subgroup analyses were adopted to explore the relationship among WMHs, NVC dysfunction, and cognitive decline.

Article Synopsis
  • In chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP), inflammation is primarily driven by immune cells like T2 cells and eosinophils, but resistance to treatment often involves neutrophils, whose role is not well understood.* -
  • Research using advanced techniques, such as single-cell analysis, reveals an increased presence of a specific type of CD8 T cells called granzyme K (GZMK) CD8 T cells in nasal polyps, which interact with fibroblasts to produce neutrophil attractants.* -
  • The study suggests that GZMK distinguishes a unique subset of CD8 T cells that not only contributes to neutrophilic inflammation in CRSwNP but may also play a
