Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) is an increasingly prevalent sensory disorder, but the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. Adaptor related protein complex 2 subunit beta 1 (AP2B1) has been indicated to be detectable in mature cochleae. Nonetheless, it is unclear whether AP2B1 is implicated in the progression of SNHL.

Despite N-methyladenosine (mA) being closely involved in various pathophysiological processes, its potential role in liver injury is largely unknown. We designed the current research to study the potential role of fat mass and obesity-associated protein (FTO), an mA demethylase, on hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI). Wild-type mice injected with an adeno-associated virus carrying fat mass and obesity-associated protein (AAV-FTO) or adeno-associated virus carrying green fluorescent protein (GFP) (AAV-GFP) were subjected to a hepatic IRI model in vivo.

Objectives: To automatically identify and diagnose bladder outflow obstruction (BOO) and detrusor underactivity (DUA) in male patients with lower urinary tract symptoms through urodynamics exam.
Patients And Methods: We performed a retrospective review of 1949 male patients who underwent a urodynamic study at two institutions. Deep Convolutional Neural Networks scheme combined with a short-time Fourier transform algorithm was trained to perform an accurate diagnosis of BOO and DUA, utilizing five-channel urodynamic data (consisting of uroflowmetry, urine volume, intravesical pressure, abdominal pressure, and detrusor pressure).

Brain damage induced by ischemia promotes the development of cognitive dysfunction, thus increasing the risk of dementia such as Alzheimer's disease (AD). Studies indicate that cellular acidification-triggered activation of asparagine endopeptidase (AEP) plays a key role in ischemic brain injury, through multiple molecular pathways, including cleavage of its substrates such as SET (inhibitor 2 of PP2A, I ) and Tau. However, whether direct targeting AEP can effectively prevent post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI) remains unanswered.

Hearing loss (HL) is the most common disorder in newborns with a highly heterogeneous genetic background. Despite significant progress in screening and identifying genes related to congenital hearing loss, there are still candidate genes implicated in HL that remain undiscovered. We investigated HL in 43 Chinese families by segregating bilateral sensorineural HL via whole-exome sequencing (WES) and Sanger sequencing.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common primary malignancy of the liver and has a high mortality. Major facilitator superfamily domain containing 2 (MFSD2A) was previously demonstrated to inhibit tumor progression in several cancers. Here, we elucidated the association between MFSD2A expression and HCC progression and also investigated the underlying mechanism.

Exercise-induced muscle damage (EIMD) is a common occurrence among athletes and individuals engaged in physical fitness activities. Muscle strains result from excessive or repetitive muscle tension, leading to tissue damage, inflammation, and pain. These strains can range from mild discomfort to severe damage, resulting in pain, inflammation, and reduced functionality.

Background: Anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) is a highly lethal form of thyroid cancer. lysine acetyltransferase 5 (KAT5) has been found to promote ATC development via c-Myc stabilization by previous study. We thus designed experiments to confirm the anti-tumor effect of a KAT5 inhibitor (MG149) in ATC.

Purpose: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a disease associated with high incidence and high mortality, which is a major problem threatening women's health. Xiaoyao Sanjie Decoction (XYSJD) exhibits remarkable therapeutic efficacy on TNBC; however, the underlying mechanism is unclear. This study verified the efficacy of XYSJD and its active component in the treatment of TNBC and explored its potential mechanism.

Diagnosing neurosyphilis in clinical settings poses significant challenges due to the absence of highly efficient diagnostic criteria. Our objective was to enhance the existing diagnostic criteria and assess their sensitivity and specificity for identifying neurosyphilis in HIV-negative patients. We conducted a retrospective review of patient records from a cross-sectional study carried out between December 2019 and May 2023.

Background: Sporadic aortic aneurysm and dissection (AAD) is a critical condition characterised by the progressive loss of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) and the breakdown of the extracellular matrix. However, the molecular mechanisms responsible for the phenotypic switch and loss of VSMCs in AAD are not fully understood.
Methods And Results: In this study, we employed a discovery-driven, unbiased approach.

This study evaluates the clinical impact of comprehensive nursing care on senior patients suffering from postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), a chronic neuropathic pain condition resulting from the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus. A total of 102 elderly patients diagnosed with PHN and treated at our hospital were divided into two groups: the control group, which received conventional nursing care, and the intervention group, which received comprehensive nursing care. Comparative analyses were conducted on pain levels, sleep quality, symptoms of depression and anxiety before and after the intervention.

Objective: This study aimed to longitudinally investigate the association between circulating neutrophil count and the progression of arterial stiffness and to ascertain whether resting heart rate (RHR) mediates this association.
Methods: The current study included 56,760 participants with brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) measurements from a real-life, prospective cohort in China. The associations of circulating neutrophil (exposure) with baseline baPWV, baPWV progression, and arterial stiffness (outcomes), as well as RHR (mediator) were assessed using multivariable linear and Cox regression models and mediation analysis.

Breast cancer is a complex disease and its progression is related not only to tumor cells but also to its microenvironment, which can not be sufficiently reflected by the traditional monolayer cell culture manner. The novel human cancer models comprising tumor microenvironment (TME), such as tumor organoids and organs-on-a-chip, has been established in recent years to help elucidate the underlying mechanisms of tumorigenesis and promote the development of cancer therapies. In this review, we first discuss the current state of breast cancer and their treatment strategies, and elucidates the complex properties of TME of breast cancer .

Neuronal oscillations refer to rhythmic and periodic fluctuations of electrical activity in the central nervous system that arise from the cellular properties of diverse neuronal populations and their interactions. Specifically, gamma oscillations play a crucial role in governing the connectivity between distinct brain regions, which are essential in perception, motor control, memory, and emotions. In this context, we recapitulate various current stimulation methods to induce gamma entrainment.

Background: The association between serum uric acid (UA) and all-cause and cardiovascular-related mortality in hemodialysis (HD) patients is conflicting. We investigated this association and explored the effect modification of underlying nutritional status, as reflected in the lean tissue index (LTI) and the Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI), which serve as markers of muscle mass and nutritional risk in HD patients.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted from January 2019 to December 2023.

Background: Patellar instability (PI) or patellar dislocation (PD) is challenging to diagnose accurately based on medical history and clinical manifestations alone. While X-ray, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are commonly employed for detecting PI or PD, computer vision has not yet been widely utilized for this purpose.
Purpose: To explore the feasibility of computer vision, specifically the You Only Look Once (YOLO) algorithm, in identifying patellar instability or dislocation.
