Development and validation of a nomogram for predicting outcomes in ovarian cancer patients with liver metastases.

Purpose: To develop and validate a nomogram for predicting the overall survival (OS) of ovarian cancer patients with liver metastases (OCLM).

Methods: This study identified 821 patients in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. All patients were randomly divided in a ratio of 7:3 into a training cohort (n = 574) and a validation cohort (n = 247).

Isolated ipsilateral ptosis associated with ventral midbrain infarction: a case report and literature review.

Documented cases of ipsilateral ptosis caused by midbrain infarction remain rare. Herein, we present a patient with isolated ipsilateral ptosis that was initially considered to be a consequence of myasthenia gravis but was subsequently attributed to ventral midbrain infarction. We also discuss the possible underlying mechanisms; ipsilateral ptosis in our patient was attributed to selective damage of the levator palpebral muscle branch of the oculomotor nerve.

Evaluation of a miniature mass spectrometer based point-of-care-test method for direct analysis of amlodipine and benazepril in whole blood.

A miniature mass spectrometer (mMS) based point-of-care testing (POCT) method was evaluated for on-site detecting the hypertension drugs, amlodipine and benazepril. The instrument parameters, including voltage, ISO1, ISO2, and CID, were optimized, under which the target compounds could be well detected in MS. When these two drugs were injected simultaneously, the mutual ionization inhibition and mutual reduction between amlodipine and benazepril were evaluated.

This study aimed to investigate the molecular mechanisms of microRNA-146a (miR-146a) on gingival mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Gingival MSCs were isolated from the gingiva tissues of patients with periodontal disease to reveal the function of miR-146a in regulating osteoblast differentiation. miR-146a inhibits osteoblast differentiation by inhibiting phosphorylated cyclic-AMP response binding (CREB) protein translocation into the nucleus and ultimately attenuating runt-related transcription factor 2 (Runx2) expression.

The hypoxic tumor microenvironment, a fundamental feature of solid tumors, drives hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) progression through regulating the transcriptional activities of protein-coding and noncoding genes. However, long noncoding RNA (lncRNA)-mediated HCC progression in hypoxic microenvironment remains largely unknown yet. In this study, we found that LINC00674 was upregulated under hypoxic conditions in a HIF-1-dependent manner, and the occupancy of HIF-1 to HRE of LINC00674 gene promoter was essential for its transcription.

Prognostic Value of Quantitative Perfusion Parameters by Enhanced Ultrasound in Endometrial Cancer.

The aim of this study was to assess the prognostic value of quantitative perfusion parameters measured by contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) in endometrial cancer before surgery. We successfully generated doxorubicin (Dox)-resistant CRC HCT-116 and SW480 cells (namely HCT-116/Dox and SW480/Dox, respectively). Cytokine expression analysis revealed that IL-8, while not FGF-2, EGF, TGF-β, IL-6, or IL-10, was significantly increased in Dox-resistant CRC cells as compared with their corresponding parental cells.
