1,2-Dimethylhydrazine (DMH) is a plant toxicant that enters the food web through the diet. It is biotransformed into azoxymethane, a colon carcinogen, during the first hepatic passage. In mice, this study assessed the role of glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH), a key glutaminolysis enzyme in DMH-induced colorectal cancer (CRC).

Objective: To investigate the prevalence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA) producing extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) and metallo-beta-lactamases (MBLs) in burn patients in Algeria.
Methods: Between April 2016 and October 2019, 47 non-redundant isolates of PA were collected from 47 burn patients admitted to the Department of Burns at the Military Hospital of Algiers in Algeria. Antibiotic susceptibility testing was performed by agar diffusion and the Phoenix automated method.

Introduction: vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VREfm) is a major public health problem worldwide. The aim of our study was to determine the microbiological, epidemiological and molecular characteristics of VREfm isolated in north-central, eastern and western Algeria.
Methodology: a collection of 48 VREfm isolated from September 2010 to April 2017 in several Algerian hospitals were studied.
Background: Hypopituitarism is a recognized sequela of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and may worsen the quality of life (QoL) in survivors.
Aims: To assess the prevalence of post-traumatic hypopituitarism (PTHP) and growth hormone deficiency (GHD), and determine their correlation with QoL.
Methods: Survivors of moderate to severe TBI were recruited from two Algerian centres.

A girl, born with a posterior lumbosacral giant congenital nevus, developed a central nodule that expanded over a period of 14 months into a 10-cm pedunculated mass. Histological analysis of the mass revealed melanoma of myxoid, small round-cell type with areas of rhabdomyosarcomatous transformation confirmed by immunohistochemistry. RNA sequencing identified an in-frame SASS6(e14)-RAF1(e8) fusion in both components and the nevus.

Although considered as a safe method to provide long-term nutritional support, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) may be complicated by a buried bumper syndrome (BBS), a life-threatening condition. Removal of the PEG tube with its buried bumper and reinsertion of a new PEG tube is often necessary. Since its description in 1988, less than 50 cases of BBS managed by external extraction of the buried bumper have been reported.

NOD2/CARD15 and IL23R gene variants play an important role in the susceptibility to Crohn's disease (CD). Studies of genotype-phenotype relationship suggest that these variants are associated with the development of the disease and specific phenotype. Preliminary reports analyzing the association between these variants have never been made on Algerian CD's.
