Light environment in the Arctic differs widely with the seasons. Studies of relationships between objectively measured circadian phase and amplitude of light exposure and melatonin in community-dwelling Arctic residents are lacking. This investigation combines cross-sectional (n = 24-62) and longitudinal (n = 13-27) data from week-long actigraphy (with light sensor), 24-h salivary melatonin profiles, and proxies of metabolic health.

Sarcopenia is a pathological condition characterized by muscle failure associated with age, in which muscle mass and strength decrease and, as a result, functional status and quality of life decrease. The article discusses and presents the stiffness of the arterial wall and the vascular wall reflection index as markers of damage to the cardiovascular system in elderly and senile women with arterial hypertension; the influence of markers of damage to the cardiovascular system in the development of sarcopenia is considered; an algorithm for the diagnosis of sarcopenia for clinical practice is presented.

Background: Non-immunogenic staphylokinase is a modified recombinant staphylokinase with low immunogenicity, high thrombolytic activity, and fibrin selectivity.

Although evidence-based interventions can reduce the incidence of central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI), there is a large gap between evidence-based interventions and the actual practice of central venous catheter (CVC) care. Evidence-based interventions are needed to reduce the incidence of CLABSI in intensive care units (ICU) in China. Professional association, guidelines, and database websites were searched for data relevant to CLABSI in the adult ICUs from inception to February 2020.

Unlabelled: A type A aortic dissection (TAAD) is a dangerous condition requiring emergency surgery. Due to the similarity of the symptoms of cerebral malperfusion in TAAD and the signs of ischemic stroke, a differential diagnosis of these diseases is not always available. Patients with TAAD after cerebral malperfusion can have a neurological deficit.

Retinal toxicity of heavy metals and its involvement in retinal pathology.

Food Chem Toxicol

June 2024

Laboratory of Ecobiomonitoring and Quality Control, Yaroslavl State University, Yaroslavl, 150003, Russia; Center of Bioelementology and Human Ecology, IM Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University (Sechenov University), Moscow, 119435, Russia. Electronic address:

The objective of the present review is to discuss epidemiological evidence demonstrating the association between toxic metal (Cd, Pb, Hg, As, Sn, Ti, Tl) exposure and retinal pathology, along with the potential underlying molecular mechanisms. Epidemiological studies demonstrate that Cd, and to a lesser extent Pb exposure, are associated with age-related macular degeneration (AMD), while the existing evidence on the levels of these metals in patients with diabetic retinopathy is scarce. Epidemiological data on the association between other toxic metals and metalloids including mercury (Hg) and arsenic (As), are limited.

JCAD deficiency delayed liver regenerative repair through the Hippo-YAP signalling pathway.

Clin Transl Med

March 2024

Department of Medical Microbiology & Parasitology, MOE/NHC/CAMS Key Laboratory of Medical Molecular Virology, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Fudan University Shanghai Medical College, Shanghai, China.

Article Synopsis
  • After liver surgery, the liver takes longer to heal, and researchers are looking for ways to help it recover faster.
  • This study focused on a protein called JCAD and how it affects liver regeneration after surgery in special mice.
  • The results showed that without JCAD, liver cells struggled to grow and divide properly, which could help doctors find new treatments for patients after liver transplants.

This study explores the relationship between the light features of the Arctic spring equinox and circadian rhythms, sleep and metabolic health. Residents (N = 62) provided week-long actigraphy measures, including light exposure, which were related to body mass index (BMI), leptin and cortisol. Lower wrist temperature (wT) and higher evening blue light exposure (BLE), expressed as a novel index, the nocturnal excess index (NEI), were the most sensitive actigraphy measures associated with BMI.

The organization and implementation of quality management system in medical organization based on internal quality control and safety of medical activities, permits to implement continuous improvement of organization functioning, to eliminate errors or undesirable occurrences as well as to prevent causes of premature mortality and to contribute into increasing of indicator of life expectancy. The implementation of risk-oriented approach in management of medical organization within the framework of internal quality control and safety of medical activities is actual and necessary condition in accordance with adopted regulatory legal acts. Currently, in the healthcare system there are no developed and approved methods of developing infrastructure of risk management in medical organization.

Introduction: The Russian invasion of Ukraine has caused huge damage to all medical infrastructure and impairs patient safety. The aim of our study was to assess the impact of implementation of the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist and Anesthesia Equipment Checklist on patient outcomes and adherence to safety standards in low-resource settings, affected by an ongoing war.

Material And Methods: A prospective multicenter study was conducted in 6 large Ukrainian hospitals.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a modern treatment for severe or treatment-resistant vulvar lichen sclerosus (VLS). The chronic and recurrent nature of VLS requires control of recurrences at an early stage. In this paper, a non-invasive multimodal optical coherence tomography (OCT) method was used to control for early histological signs of VLS recurrence after systemic PDT using Photodithazine.

Emerging evidence suggests that the reproductive tract microbiota is a key modulator of local inflammatory and immune pathways throughout pregnancy and may subsequently impact pregnancy outcomes. In this study, our objective was to analyze the cervical and vaginal microbiomes during early pregnancy among three groups: women with healthy ongoing pregnancies, women undergoing dydrogesterone treatment, and those who experienced miscarriages. The experiment involved 51 women at 8-11 weeks of gestation.

Background: Making a preliminary diagnosis using X-ray methods for the study of resistant and resistant tuberculosis (TB) will help to make a preliminary diagnosis and determine further tactics for the treatment of TB, even with limited resources for microbiological diagnosis of drug resistance of TB. The present study was aimed at identifying chest X-ray differences between susceptible and resistant TB.

Methods: A prospective cohort study of data from all consecutive patients with culture-confirmed pulmonary TB admitted during the year to the Kharkiv TB Dispensary No.

The aim of this pilot study was to investigate whether single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) in the gene encoding the catalytic subunit of glutamate cysteine ligase () are associated with the risk and clinical features of psoriasis. A total of 944 unrelated individuals, including 474 patients with a diagnosis of psoriasis and 470 healthy controls, were recruited for the study. Six common SNPs in the gene were genotyped using the MassArray-4 system.
