Light environment in the Arctic differs widely with the seasons. Studies of relationships between objectively measured circadian phase and amplitude of light exposure and melatonin in community-dwelling Arctic residents are lacking. This investigation combines cross-sectional (n = 24-62) and longitudinal (n = 13-27) data from week-long actigraphy (with light sensor), 24-h salivary melatonin profiles, and proxies of metabolic health.

[Markers of cardiovascular system damage as additional criteria for the diagnosis of sarcopenia.].

Sarcopenia is a pathological condition characterized by muscle failure associated with age, in which muscle mass and strength decrease and, as a result, functional status and quality of life decrease. The article discusses and presents the stiffness of the arterial wall and the vascular wall reflection index as markers of damage to the cardiovascular system in elderly and senile women with arterial hypertension; the influence of markers of damage to the cardiovascular system in the development of sarcopenia is considered; an algorithm for the diagnosis of sarcopenia for clinical practice is presented.

Background: Non-immunogenic staphylokinase is a modified recombinant staphylokinase with low immunogenicity, high thrombolytic activity, and fibrin selectivity.

Patients with TAAD after cerebral malperfusion can have a neurological deficit.

Retinal toxicity of heavy metals and its involvement in retinal pathology.

The objective of the present review is to discuss epidemiological evidence demonstrating the association between toxic metal (Cd, Pb, Hg, As, Sn, Ti, Tl) exposure and retinal pathology, along with the potential underlying molecular mechanisms. Epidemiological studies demonstrate that Cd, and to a lesser extent Pb exposure, are associated with age-related macular degeneration (AMD), while the existing evidence on the levels of these metals in patients with diabetic retinopathy is scarce. Epidemiological data on the association between other toxic metals and metalloids including mercury (Hg) and arsenic (As), are limited.

[CT-predictors of unfavorable outcome in hemorrhagic stroke].

Objective: To analyze the relationship between the changes on non-contrast CT of the head in patients with acute hemorrhagic stroke and its unfavorable outcome within 90 days.

Material And Methods: The retrospective analysis of the clinical, demographic parameters and results of CT of the head of all patients admitted to the stroke unit of the district hospital between January 2015 and December 2021 was performed. The data of 131 patients were included in the work (52% males), average age was 65.

Blue Light and Temperature Actigraphy Measures Predicting Metabolic Health Are Linked to Melatonin Receptor Polymorphism.

This study explores the relationship between the light features of the Arctic spring equinox and circadian rhythms, sleep and metabolic health. Residents (N = 62) provided week-long actigraphy measures, including light exposure, which were related to body mass index (BMI), leptin and cortisol. Lower wrist temperature (wT) and higher evening blue light exposure (BLE), expressed as a novel index, the nocturnal excess index (NEI), were the most sensitive actigraphy measures associated with BMI.

WHO Surgical Safety Checklist and Anesthesia Equipment Checklist efficacy in war-affected low-resource settings: a prospective two-arm multicenter study.

Introduction: The Russian invasion of Ukraine has caused huge damage to all medical infrastructure and impairs patient safety. The aim of our study was to assess the impact of implementation of the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist and Anesthesia Equipment Checklist on patient outcomes and adherence to safety standards in low-resource settings, affected by an ongoing war.

Material And Methods: A prospective multicenter study was conducted in 6 large Ukrainian hospitals.

Treatment outcomes and risk factors for an unsuccessful outcome among patients with highly drug-resistant tuberculosis in Ukraine.

Objectives: To describe demographics, clinical features, and treatment outcomes of patients with highly drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) in Ukraine, and to evaluate risk factors for an unsuccessful outcome.

Methods: Data from patients with multi-, pre-extensively, or extensively drug-resistant TB were collected prospectively from TB dispensaries in 15 out of 24 Ukrainian oblasts (regions) from 2020 to 2021. Treatment outcomes were evaluated using WHO definitions.

Emerging evidence suggests that the reproductive tract microbiota is a key modulator of local inflammatory and immune pathways throughout pregnancy and may subsequently impact pregnancy outcomes. In this study, our objective was to analyze the cervical and vaginal microbiomes during early pregnancy among three groups: women with healthy ongoing pregnancies, women undergoing dydrogesterone treatment, and those who experienced miscarriages. The experiment involved 51 women at 8-11 weeks of gestation.

Polymorphisms of the Gene Are Novel Genetic Markers for Susceptibility to Psoriasis Associated with Alcohol Abuse and Cigarette Smoking.

The aim of this pilot study was to investigate whether single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) in the gene encoding the catalytic subunit of glutamate cysteine ligase () are associated with the risk and clinical features of psoriasis. A total of 944 unrelated individuals, including 474 patients with a diagnosis of psoriasis and 470 healthy controls, were recruited for the study. Six common SNPs in the gene were genotyped using the MassArray-4 system.

Background: Critical incident reporting and analysis is one of the key components of patient safety in anesthesiology. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency and characteristics of critical incidents during anesthesia, main causes and factors involved, influence on patient outcomes, prevalence of incident reporting and further analysis.

Methods: A multicenter prospective audit was conducted at the clinical departments of the Bogomolets National Medical University during the period from 1 to 2021 to 1 December 2021.

[Optimization of early postoperative period in intestinal resection surgery for acute intestinal obstruction complicated by peritonitis].

Material And Methods: We analyzed treatment outcomes in 37 patients with acute intestinal obstruction complicated by peritonitis. The control group included 19 patients who underwent standard therapeutic measures after resolving intestinal obstruction and resection of small or large intestine.

According to the World Health Organization, there is an increase in the incidence of musculoskeletal diseases worldwide. The problem of this group of diseases is that they are associated with the onset of temporary and permanent disability. A number of studies have demonstrated an increase in the incidence of musculoskeletal diseases in the US, Canada, Australia, and European countries.

Objective: To determine the diagnostic value of ultrasound signs of urinary stones less than or equal to 10 mm and to determine clinico-radiological variants of ureteric colic.

Methods: A total of 455 ultrasound investigations were performed in patients referring to emergency department with urolithiasis and symptoms suspected of ureteric colic between January 2021 and May 2021. In addition to microscopic evaluation of urine sediment to detect different crystals and non-contrast spiral computed tomography to detect stones, B-mode and color Doppler sonography was performed to assess the presence of acoustic shadow (AS) and twinkle artifacts (TA) as possible signs of stone(s) in ureter.
