Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a life-threatening condition characterized by elevated pulmonary artery pressure, leading to right heart failure, and mortality. The role of telomere length, a marker of biological aging, in PAH remains unclear. We utilized summary-level data from genome-wide association studies for various measures of telomere length and PAH.

N6-adenosine methylation (m6A) of RNA is involved in the regulation of various diseases. However, its role in chemotherapy-related vascular endothelial injury has not yet been elucidated. We found that methyltransferase-like 3 (METTL3) expression was significantly reduced during doxorubicin (DOX)-induced apoptosis of vascular endothelial cells both in vivo and in vitro, and that silencing of METTL3 further intensified this process.

Background: The histone-lysine N-methyltransferase SMYD1, which is specific to striated muscle, plays a crucial role in regulating early heart development. Its deficiency has been linked to the occurrence of congenital heart disease. Nevertheless, the precise mechanism by which SMYD1 deficiency contributes to congenital heart disease remains unclear.

Aortic dissection, characterized by a high immediate mortality, is primarily caused by excessive bleeding within the walls of the aorta or a severe tear within the intimal layer of the aorta. Inflammation, as well as oxidative stress and the degradation of extracellular matrix (ECM), are significant factors in the development and occurrence of aortic dissection. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are pivotal enzymes responsible for degrading the ECM.

Enkephalins are reportedly correlated with heart function. However, their regulation in the heart remains unexplored. This study revealed a substantial increase in circulating levels of opioid growth factor (OGF) (also known as methionine enkephalin) and myocardial expression levels of both OGF and its receptor (OGFR) in subjects treated with doxorubicin (Dox).

This study investigates how dynamic fluctuations in matrix stiffness affect the behavior of cardiac fibroblasts (CFs) within a three-dimensional (3D) hydrogel environment. Using hybrid hydrogels with tunable stiffness, we created an in vitro model to mimic the varying stiffness of the cardiac microenvironment. By manipulating hydrogel stiffness, we examined CF responses, particularly the expression of α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), a marker of myofibroblast differentiation.

Background: Pedicle screw instrument surgeries can result in the development of aortic pseudoaneurysm, which is a rare yet potentially severe complication; therefore, the purpose of this work is to describe the case of pseudoaneurysm of the thoracic aorta caused by the severe migration of a pedicle screw after surgery.
Case Presentation: We herein report a patient who underwent endovascular repair for the pseudoaneurysm of the descending thoracic aorta following thoracic vertebral fixation surgery. A 28-80 mm covered stent was initially inserted through the right femoral artery, and intraoperative aortography revealed a minor extravasation of contrast material.

Triacylglyceride (TAG) synthesis in the small intestine determines the absorption of dietary fat, but the underlying mechanisms remain to be further studied. Here, we report that the RNA-binding protein HuR (ELAVL1) promotes TAG synthesis in the small intestine. HuR associates with the 3' UTR of Dgat2 mRNA and intron 1 of Mgat2 pre-mRNA.

Diabetic wounds are characterized by chronic trauma, with long-term non-healing attributed to persistent inflammation and recurrent bacterial infections. Exacerbation of the inflammatory response is largely due to increased levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS). In this study, catalase (CAT) was used as a biological template to synthesize nanozyme-supported natural enzymes (CAT-Mn(SH)) using a biomimetic mineralization method.

Neonatal mouse hearts can regenerate post-injury, unlike adult hearts that form fibrotic scars. The mechanism of thyroid hormone signaling in cardiac regeneration warrants further study. We found that triiodothyronine impairs cardiomyocyte proliferation and heart regeneration in neonatal mice after apical resection.

Background: The implantation of left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) as a bridge to transplantation or as destination therapy in end-stage heart failure patients is frequently complicated by the emergence of ventricular arrhythmias (VAs). These arrhythmias have been implicated in precipitating deleterious clinical outcomes, increased mortality rates and augmented healthcare expenditures.
Case Presentation: We present a challenging case of a 49-year-old male with a history of dilated cardiomyopathy who received an LVAD.

Background: Recent advances in gene editing technology have opened up new avenues for in vivo gene therapy, which holds great promise as a potential treatment method for dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). The CRISPR-Cas13 system has been shown to be an effective tool for knocking down RNA expression in mammalian cells. PspCas13b, a type VI-B effector that can be packed into adeno-associated viruses and improve RNA knockdown efficiency, is a potential treatment for diseases characterized by abnormal gene expression.

Our previous study has shown that p66 plays an important role in the process of myocardial regeneration in newborn mice, and p66 deficiency leads to weakened myocardial regeneration in newborn mice. This study aims to explore the role of p66 protein in myocardial injury repair after myocardial infarction in adult mice, in order to provide a new target for the treatment of myocardial injury after myocardial infarction. Mouse myocardial infarction models of adult wild-type (WT) and p66 knockout (KO) were constructed by anterior descending branch ligation.

The security and efficiency of gene delivery vectors are inseparable for the successful construction of a gene delivery vector. This work provides a practical method to construct a charge-regulated, hydrophobic-modified, and functionally modified polyethylenimine (PEI) with effective gene delivery and perfect transfection performance through a condensation reaction, named BA-PEI. The carrier was shown to possess a favorable compaction of miRNAs into positively charged nanoparticles with a hydrodynamic size of approximately 100 nm.
