A new species of Garra (Labeoninae) is described from the Zubza River, a headwater of the Brahmaputra River basin, in Kohima district of Nagaland, North-eastern India. The new species is distinguished by the following combination of characters: a black spot located on the principal ray and first three branched rays of the dorsal (upper) lobe distal part, as well as a black submarginal V-shaped band on the principal ray and whole branched rays of the ventral (lower) lobe of caudal fin; snout with weakly-developed proboscis represented by slightly upwards elevated hump, with no transverse groove and no transverse lobe, and with 10-12 small tubercles on anterodorsal marginal aspect; 34 lateral-line scales including two pored scales on caudal fin; absence of scales on chest and presence of poorly developed scales on belly; relatively shorter caudal peduncle (10.7-12.

Canine parvovirus type 2 (CPV-2) infection in dogs is considered as one of the most common cause of morbidity and mortality in young dogs and continues to occur with high incidence worldwide. Despite a single-stranded DNA virus, CPV-2 possesses a high mutation rate which has led to the development of new variants from time to time. These variants are classically classified based on the amino acid markers present in the VP2 gene.

The present study assessed the diet characteristics, trophic guild structure, and microplastics (MPs) ingestion by a group of fish sourced from the tidal creeks of the Mumbai coast along the Eastern Arabian Sea. The diet patterns were characterized using gastro-somatic index (GaSI), relative length of gut (RGL), diet overlap (α), diet breadth (B), and relative abundance of food items (%IOP), with a special emphasis on MPs contamination. The findings revealed that teleost and shrimps are the most preferred food items for these species.

Triclosan (TCS), an antibacterial biocide, pervades water and sediment matrices globally, posing a threat to aquatic life. In densely populated cities like Mumbai, rivers and coastal bodies demand baseline TCS data for ecotoxicological assessment due to the excessive use of personal care products comprising TCS. This pioneering study compares spatiotemporal TCS variations and risks in freshwater and marine ecosystems employing multivariate analysis of physicochemical parameters.

Identifying and analysing distinct blood cells is crucial for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases in the field of biomedicine. The present study was undertaken to study the cytomorphological and cytochemical characteristics of the blood cells of Zoar, a non-descript indigenous breed of chicken extensively reared under backyard poultry farming in Mizoram, India. For this study, 2 mL of blood samples were aseptically collected from the wings veins of 12 chickens and were processed for light microscopic study under standard protocols.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a neurodegenerative disorder of the central nervous system that can lead to permanent loss of sensation and voluntary movement beyond the affected area. Extensive preclinical and clinical trials have been conducted to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of stem cells for the treatment of various central nervous system diseases or disorders, including SCI. However, several challenges hinder nerve cell regeneration in the injured spinal cord, such as extensive cell loss, limited neural cell regeneration capacity, axonal disruption, and the presence of growth-inhibiting molecules, particularly astroglial scarring or glial scars at the injury site in chronic cases.

Infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) causes considerable economic impacts on global poultry production. Since its emergence in early 1930, IBV continues to evolve and now exists in a wide range of antigenically and genetically distinct variants, that makes the prevention and the control of the disease both complex and challenging. Although IBV has been reported regularly from different corner of India, information about the molecular epidemiology of circulating strain in relation to clinical form of the disease is not available.

In the present study, comprehensive research was executed to investigate the salient toxic effects of glyphosate herbicide in static water system by evaluating the haemato-biochemical profiles of Labio rohita. A challenge study against Aeromonas hydrophila was conducted to determine disease susceptibility of the fish, treated to varying concentrations of commercial-grade glyphosate herbicide. A static range finding bioassay and definitive test revealed that the 96-h LC value of glyphosate was 10.

Background: Ultrastructural information regarding the peripheral blood cells of local (Zovawk) pigs from Mizoram, India, is not available in the scientific literature.
Objectives: The present study was designed to reveal the fine structural details of the blood cells from these local pigs using a transmission electron microscope (TEM).
Methods: Blood samples were collected from 12 healthy Zovawk pigs of either sex and processed according to a standard protocol.

This study investigated the diet composition and microplastic contamination in six fish species collected from the creek area of northeastern Arabian Sea. The results show that the diet of the fish is mainly composed of shrimps, algae, fish, and zooplankton, with microplastics constituting up to 4.83 % (Index of Preponderance) of their diet.

Outbreaks of New Castle Disease from three north eastern states of India were confirmed by clinico-pathological examination followed by reverse transcription-PCR detection of F gene of ND Virus (NDV). Irrespective of vaccination, the outbreaks resulted 90-100% mortality in the affected flocks. The analysis of fusion protein sequences from ten field isolates revealed them as the velogenic or highly virulent strain.

The literature on the blood cells of Zovawk pigs is scanty; thus, this study was designed to elaborate the light microscopy (LM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) characterization of blood cells of Zovawk pigs by LM and SEM. Twelve different blood samples were aseptically obtained from adult healthy Zovawk pigs, irrespective of sex. To determine the cytomorphological and cytochemical structures of the many produced constituents of blood, blood smears were stained with various stains.
