Background: In 2016, the World Health Organization recommended that a fractional dose of yellow fever (YF) vaccine could be used in persons 2 years of age or older in response to an emergency that resulted in a global shortage of available YF vaccine. However, this recommendation did not extend to the youngest age group licensed for YF vaccine because there were no published data on the use or safety of fractional dose YF vaccination in children aged 9-23 months. We conducted a single-blind randomized controlled trial, comparing the immunogenicity and safety of fractional one-fifth and one-half doses of Bio-Manguinhos 17DD YF vaccine with full dose in children aged 9-23 months old in Uganda.

Background: In the United States, most chlamydia cases are reported from non-sexually transmitted disease clinics, and there is limited information focusing on the reasons for chlamydia testing in private settings. These analyses describe clinical visits to primary care providers where chlamydia testing was performed to help discern between screening and diagnostic testing for chlamydia.

Methods: Using the largest primary care clinical registry in the United States, the PRIME registry, chlamydia tests were identified using Current Procedural Terminology procedure codes and categorized as diagnostic testing for sexually transmitted infection (STI)-related symptoms, screening for chlamydia, or "other," based on Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision Evaluation and Management codes selected for visits.

Estimation of mortality rates and mortality rate ratios (MRR) of diseased and non-diseased individuals is a core metric of disease impact used in chronic disease epidemiology. Estimation of mortality rates is often conducted through retrospective linkage of information from nationwide surveys such as the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) and death registries. These surveys usually collect information on disease status during only one study visit.

BMC Infect Dis

July 2022

Center for Applied Malaria Research and Evaluation, School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, Tulane University, New Orleans, USA.

Introduction: Serological methods provide useful metrics to estimate age-specific period prevalence in settings of low malaria transmission; however, evidence on the use of seropositivity as an endpoint remains scarce in studies to evaluate combinations of malaria control measures, especially in children. This study aims to evaluate the immediate effects of a targeted mass drug administration campaign (tMDA) in Haiti by using serological markers.

Methods: The tMDA was implemented in September-October 2018 using sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine and single low-dose primaquine.
