Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the connection between social determinants of health (SDOH) and health-related social needs (HRSN) with chronic diseases among American adults using data from the 2022 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS).
  • Findings reveal that a significant portion (66.3%) of participants had chronic diseases and 59.4% experienced adverse SDOH/HRSN, indicating higher prevalence of these social factors among those with chronic conditions, excluding cancer.
  • The research suggests that healthcare providers and public health systems should account for SDOH/HRSN when addressing treatment and prevention strategies for chronic diseases, particularly in communities that face higher rates of these conditions.

  • PTSD and depression are significant psychological issues for people living with HIV (PLWH), potentially linked to their childhood experiences with parental rearing styles.
  • A study of 300 PLWH found that perceptions of parental warmth from both fathers and mothers were associated with lower levels of PTSD and depression.
  • Social support was identified as a crucial factor that helps mediate the relationship between perceived parental warmth and the mental health outcomes of PTSD and depression, highlighting the need for targeted psychological support for individuals feeling a lack of parental warmth.

This study delineates the enhancement of a Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) method for the amplification of the complete genome of the influenza A virus during heterosubtypic co-infection, relying on the amplification of intact gene segments. The precision of the method was assessed using all amplicons, which underwent both capillary electrophoresis and DNA sequencing. Five samples featuring co-infection of Influenza A viruses with H1N1 and H3N2 subtypes were evaluated.

Stable isotope labeling-based two-step derivatization strategy for analysis of Phosphopeptides.

J Proteomics

April 2024

Key Laboratory of Optoelectronic Chemical Materials and Devices, Ministry of Education, School of Optoelectronic Materials & Technology, Jianghan University, Wuhan 430056, Hubei, People's Republic of China.

Investigating site-specific protein phosphorylation remains a challenging task. The present study introduces a two-step chemical derivatization method for accurate identification of phosphopeptides. Methylamine neutralizes carboxyl groups, thus reducing the adsorption of non-phosphorylated peptides during enrichment, while dimethylamine offers a cost-effective reagent for stable isotope labeling of phosphorylation sites.

Background: A sharp rise in household consumption of disinfectants triggered by COVID-19 pandemic has generated tremendous environmental burden and risks of disinfectant emissions in the post-pandemic period. To address this emerging challenge, replacing highly hazardous disinfectants with more environmental friendly alternatives has been accepted as an inherently effective solution to environment issues posed by disinfectant emerging contaminants. However, no study has yet been done to explore the potential customers' attitudes and the market prospect of environmental friendly disinfectants until now.
