Background: Inflammation has been reported to drive cancer-related fatigue (CRF). As both obesity and chemotherapy promote inflammatory responses, obese cancer patients may be at risk of more severe CRF, especially when receiving chemotherapy.
Methods: We analysed data of 333 colon cancer patients from four hospitals in the Netherlands (data derived from the PROCORE study).

This part reviews the management of chronic cough and proposes a management algorithm. Despite proven improvements in quality of life following chronic cough treatment, a clear understanding of the disease and the evidence for the efficacy of some treatments remain vague. Eight key questions regarding the treatment in the uncertain areas were systematically addressed based on the PICO framework and applying the GRADE system for evidence synthesis to provide the strength of recommendation and quality of evidence for key questions, with narrative components for the description of other chronic cough treatment including non-pharmacological therapy.

Chronic cough is a common clinical condition requiring comprehensive assessment. This review employs a symptom-focused approach, prioritizing the presenting symptom of "chronic cough" to mirror real-world clinical practice. Ten key questions regarding the investigations in the uncertain areas were systematically addressed based on the PICO framework and applying the GRADE system for evidence synthesis to provide the strength of recommendation and quality of evidence for key questions.

Animal venoms, distinguished by their unique structural features and potent bioactivities, represent a vast and relatively untapped reservoir of therapeutic molecules. However, limitations associated with comprehensively constructing and expressing highly complex venom and venom-like molecule libraries have precluded their therapeutic evaluation via high throughput screening. Here, we developed an innovative computational approach to design a highly diverse library of animal venoms and "metavenoms".

Background: To process wearables sensors data, end-users face a wide variety of choices influencing physical activity (PA) patterns estimation. This study investigated the impact of varying epoch length on PA patterns in adults and World Health Organization (WHO) PA guidelines prevalence, assessed by accelerometer.
Methods: The study included 181 adults (18-74 years) from the Esteban Study (2014-2016).
The clinical research findings on the effects of okra consumption on blood glucose and lipids are inconsistent. In this study, we aimed to explore the impact of okra consumption on glycemic parameters and lipid profile in adults, including homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), glycosylated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), fasting blood glucose (FBG), triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). To find relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs), we systemically searched EMBASE, Web of Science, PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Scopus until April 2024.

In patients with type II diabetes, the development of diabetic cardiomyopathy (DC) is associated with a high risk of mortality. Left ventricular hypertrophy, diastolic dysfunction, and exercise intolerance are the first signs of DC. The underlying mechanisms are not fully elucidated, and there is an urgent need for specific biomarkers and molecular targets for early diagnosis and treatment.

This study was to determine the presence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in wastewater samples from two wastewater treatment plants in Baltimore over a period of one year. The samples were concentrated by the Polyethylene Glycol 8000 (PEG) method, and RNA fragments were extracted using the QIAamp Viral RNA Mini Kit. RT-PCR and qPCR assays were performed, and Cq values below 40 were analyzed and presented as gene copies/L.

Introduction: Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is emerging as an endpoint, adjunct to survival, in cancer treatment. For this reason, the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) has developed standardized quality-of-life questionnaires to collect patient-reported outcome measurement (PROM), which so far have been widely used in clinical trials to evaluate the impact of new drugs on cancer patients. However, while these questionnaires comprehensively describe patient functions, little is known about their association with patient characteristics.

Thirteen glycoside compounds were isolated and purified from 95% ethanol extract of Chrysanthemum indicum by normal and reversed phase silica gels, glucan gel, and high performance liquid chromatography, and their chemical structures were identified by spectroscopic data and physicochemical properties. These compounds were(2S,3R)-2,3-dihydro-3-hydroxymethyl-7-methoxy-2-benzodioxole-5-benzofuranpropanol-10-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(1), 4,6,8-decatriynyl-β-D-glucopyranoside(2), 5-(β-D-glucopyranosyloxy)-2-hydroxy benzoic acid methyl ester(3), citrusin C(4), cuminyl β-D-glucopyranoside(5), benzyl-6-[(2E)-2-butenoate]-β-D-glucopyranoside(6), benzyl β-D-glucoside(7), viridoside(8), phenylethyl β-D-glucopyranoside(9), syringaresinol-4'-O-β-D-glucoside(10), pinoresinol-4'-O-β-D-glucoside(11), isoeucommin A(12), and eucommin A(13). Background: Patients with sepsis-induced AKI can be classified into two distinct sub-phenotypes (AKI-SP1, AKI-SP2) that differ in clinical outcomes and response to treatment. The biologic mechanisms underlying these sub-phenotypes remains unknown. Our objective was to understand the underlying biology that differentiates AKI sub-phenotypes and associations with kidney outcomes.

Despite access to antiretroviral therapy (ART), South Africa has a high human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) burden. Treatment outcomes among individuals on highly active ART (HAART) in KwaZulu-Natal, with a higher incidence of HIV, are not fully known. This study evaluated the impact of HAART outcomes and identified and analyzed the factors associated with the outcomes in people living with HIV and AIDS (PLWHA) in the high-incidence region of KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa.

Rhizoma Dioscoreae Bulbiferae (HYZ) is a widely utilized herb in clinical practice, known for its significant biological activities. However, the associated hepatotoxicity poses limitations to its application. Our previous research indicated that the effective mitigation of HYZ-induced hepatotoxicity through the concoction with Radix Paeoniae Alba medicinal juice involves the incorporation of paeoniflorin (Pae) and a reduction in diosbulbin B (DB), the primary toxic compound in HYZ.

Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are a pool of neurodevelopment disorders in which social impairment is the main symptom. Presently, there are no definitive medications to cure the symptoms but the therapeutic strategies that are taken ameliorate them. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of melatonin (MLT) in treating ASDs using an autistic mouse model BTBR TItpr3/J (BTBR).
