Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Acorus tatarinowii Rhizoma, a traditional Chinese medicine known for open the orifices and transform phlegm, is used in the treatment of brain disorders. The essential oil of Acorus tatarinowii Rhizoma (EOAT) has demonstrated neuroprotective properties clinically. However, research into its effect on Olfactory Dysfunction (OD) remains limited.

Background: Atractylenolide III (ATL III) is a natural bioactive compound, that possesses anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and neuroprotective properties. However, whether ATL III can protect against neuronal injury induced by cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) have not yet been studied. This study aimed to investigate the protective effects of ATL III on neuronal injury using an oxygen-glucose deprivation/reperfusion (OGD/R) model in HT22 cells.

To investigate food industry compliance with the display of front-of-package warning labels (FOPLs) on products that exceed regulatory thresholds for being high in calories, added sugars, sodium, or saturated fats after full implementation of Chile's Food Labeling and Advertising Law. In 2020, trained dietitians took pictures of nutritional information and FOPLs on packaged products in supermarkets. We categorized foods and beverages as requiring FOPLs (or not) using their nutritional composition and ingredients as set out in government guidelines.

Macrophages contribute to the induction and resolution of inflammation and play a central role in chronic low-grade inflammation in cardiovascular diseases caused by atherosclerosis. Human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) are complex unconjugated glycans unique to human milk that benefit infant health and act as innate immune modulators. Here, we identify the HMO 3'sialyllactose (3'SL) as a natural inhibitor of TLR4-induced low-grade inflammation in macrophages and endothelium.

We sequenced the genome of dengue virus serotype 1 (DENV1) strain 4101301, isolated from a child with dengue fever in Thailand and cultured in C6/36 mosquito cells. These data are crucial for studying DENV1's genetic diversity, evolution, and epidemiology and advancing the knowledge for developing antiviral drugs and vaccines targeting DENV.

Phonon polaritons (PhPs), light coupled to lattice vibrations, in the highly anisotropic polar layered material molybdenum trioxide (α-MoO) are currently the focus of intense research efforts due to their extreme subwavelength field confinement, directional propagation, and unprecedented low losses. Nevertheless, prior research has primarily concentrated on exploiting the squeezing and steering capabilities of α-MoO PhPs, without inquiring much into the dominant microscopic mechanism that determines their long lifetimes, which is key for their implementation in nanophotonic applications. This study delves into the fundamental processes that govern PhP damping in α-MoO by combining calculations with scattering-type scanning near-field optical microscopy (s-SNOM) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy measurements across a broad temperature range (8-300 K).

Polymer microstructures rely on tacticity, yet exploration in polyamines has focused predominantly on atactic polymers. We introduce a method to synthesize a diverse library of and -cyanobenzenesulfonyl-activated-methyl aziridines using , , and racemic alaninol. Living anionic ring-opening polymerization of racemic sulfonyl aziridines yields soluble polymers, while enantiomerically-pure sulfonyl aziridines follow a dispersion polymerization with complete monomer conversion giving access to stereoblock copolymers.

The increased incidence of dengue poses a substantially global public health challenge. There are no approved antiviral drugs to treat dengue infections. Ivermectin, an old anti-parasitic drug, had no effect on dengue viremia, but reduced the dengue non-structural protein 1 (NS1) in a clinical trial.

In this study, the immunomodulatory effects of polysaccharide obtained by hot-compressed steaming of Rehmannia glutinosa Libosch (HRP) were investigated using both in vitro and in vivo methods. It was found that HRP activated the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway, up-regulated the intracellular expression of TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1β, and induced of innate immune memory in macrophages. We then investigated the effect of HRP on immunosuppressed mice induced by cyclophosphamide (CTX).

The nanoscale multidrug codelivery system for synergistic therapy is an effective strategy for tumor treatment. However, the low drug delivery efficiency and poor therapeutic effects limit its application. Here, based on the coordination effect of Artemisinin (Art), quercetin (Qc), and Fe, we had constructed a safe and efficient carrier-free hyaluronic acid (HA)-modified Art-Fe-Qc nanoparticles (AFQ@HA NPs) for enhanced chemotherapy/photothermal therapy (PTT)-chemodynamic therapy (CDT) synergistic therapy, which achieved an ultrahigh drug loading efficiency and a multifunction anticancer strategy.

Purpose: This study aimed to identify feasible, evidence-based strategies to improve the use of Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) implemented in clinical oncology practice.
Methods: A mixed-method study involving observations of consultations and semi-structured interviews with patients and healthcare professionals (HCPs) was conducted to identify facilitators and barriers for using PROMs; barriers and facilitators were structured following the Theoretical Domains Framework. For each barrier, evidence-based improvement strategies were selected using the Behaviour Change Techniques Taxonomy v1.

This study focuses on the alluvial plain spanning between the Turia and Jucar rivers (486 km) in Valencia, Spain - a highly productive agricultural area that also involves a Natural Park (La Albufera). Thirty-five points across different water sources and land uses were sampled to map the spatial distribution of 14 heavy metals (Al, As, B, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Li, Ni, Pb, Sr, Tl, and Zn), and to study the potential influence of water characteristics and environmental factors on them. Two pollution indexes were applied, Heavy Metal Evaluation Index (HEI) and Water Pollution Index (WPI), to assess the water quality state in the area.

Background: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), known for its aggressiveness and limited treatment options, presents a significant challenge. Adoptive cell transfer, involving the ex vivo generation of antigen-specific T cells from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), emerges as a promising approach. The overexpression of mesothelin (MSLN) and nucleolin (NCL) in TNBC samples underscores their potential as targets for T cell therapy.
