Background: The long-term follow-up studies investigating the risk of anemia and iron deficiency following bariatric procedures are scarce. This study aimed to determine the influence of body weight reduction and type of bariatric surgery on iron metabolism parameters.
Methods: We included 138 consecutive patients who underwent bariatric surgery (120 underwent sleeve gastrectomy and 18 underwent other types of bariatric surgery) between 2010 and 2016.
The shaping of the human intestinal microbiota starts during the intrauterine period and continues through the subsequent stages of extrauterine life. The microbiota plays a significant role in the predisposition and development of immune diseases, as well as various inflammatory processes. Importantly, the proper colonization of the fetal digestive system is influenced by maternal microbiota, the method of pregnancy completion and the further formation of the microbiota.

Cervical cytology is a vital screening tool used to detect precancerous and cancerous cells in the cervix. The procedure is crucial in preventing cervical cancer by enabling the early detection and treatment of abnormal cells. In the context of pregnancy, cytology remains an essential component of prenatal care.

Recently, the knowledge of the genetic basis of fertility disorders has expanded enormously, mainly thanks to the use of next-generation sequencing (NGS). However, the genetic cause of infertility, in the majority of patients, is still undefined. The aim was to identify novel and recurrent pathogenic/likely pathogenic variants in patients with isolated infertility or puberty delay using a targeted NGS technique.

This review describes our experience with native tissue repair of the visceral pelvic fascia, the perineum, and anal sphincters in women. We propose that complex repair of the pelvic floor should consider vaginal support in all three anatomical Delancey's levels, together with more caudal structures-the external and internal anal sphincters. Original illustrations were created to facilitate the understanding of the complex anatomy of common multi-level defects.

Introduction: One of the key challenges regarding the management of twins involves choosing the optimal mode of delivery, which is strongly influenced by the final presentation of both fetuses. In cases of vertex-nonvertex pregnancies attempting the trial of vaginal delivery, external cephalic version (ECV) is one of possible management options. The main objective of this review was to collect and summarize available data in terms of the application of ECV in the population of nonvertex second twins.

This review aims to investigate the clinical implications of using the myocardial performance index (MPI), obtained through tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) and spectral Doppler, in assessing fetal cardiac function in growth-restricted fetuses. It explores the MPI's potential in predicting adverse perinatal outcomes and its utility when combined with conventional pulsed-wave Doppler assessments for enhanced fetal well-being evaluations. A systematic search of PubMed and Google Scholar databases spanning from 2004 to 2023 was conducted to identify pertinent articles on the MPI's clinical application in managing growth-restricted fetuses.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a severe complication following pelvic trauma. Thromboprophylaxis has reduced the risk of VTE in the pelvic trauma population; nevertheless, the risk remains high. A substantial pulmonary embolism has emerged as the unexpected cause of death among patients presenting with 'minor pelvic fractures'.

Renal colic is one of the most common non-obstetric causes of hospitalization in pregnant women. Its management is often a challenge for obstetricians/gynecologists, urologists and neonatologists due to the complexity of the problem. The aim of this study was to analyze the possible maternal-fetal complications in renal colic during pregnancy.

Mechanisms resulting from the physiological immaturity of the digestive system in children delivered before 32 weeks of gestation and, in particular, different interactions between the microbiome and the body have not been fully elucidated yet. Next-generation sequencing methods demonstrated the presence of bacterial DNA in the placenta and amniotic fluid, which may reflect bacterial populations that initiate intestinal colonization in utero. Numerous studies confirmed the hypothesis stating that intestinal bacteria played an important role in the pathogenesis of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) early- and late-onset neonatal sepsis (EONS and LONS).

BACKGROUND The study was aimed to determine level of stress and using of coping strategies and frequency of type D personality in women with androgenetic alopecia with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), to correlate personality type with level of stress and coping strategies, and to correlate severity of alopecia with personality type, level of stress, and coping strategies. MATERIAL AND METHODS The study was conducted in 2023 and included 146 Polish women aged 18 to 45 years with androgenetic alopecia and PCOS. A questionnaire containing social-demographic data, gynecological and obstetric history, health history, history of diagnosis, and treatment of PCOS in the past and present.

Objective: The echocardiographic assessment of the systemic right ventricle (sRV) performance during stress testing is limited and evaluation is not routinely performed. The aim of the study is to investigate sRV myocardial performance at rest and with exercise in patients with complete transposition of the great arteries (dTGA) who have undergone atrial switch operation.
Methods: In a single-center cross-sectional study, 41 patients with dTGA following the atrial switch operation and gender-matched 20 healthy volunteers underwent exercise echocardiography on a bicycle ergometer in the semi-supine position to assess sRV systolic function indices: tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE), right ventricular area change (FAC), global longitudinal strain (GLS) and systemic velocity time integral (VTI).
