Background: , a Brazilian native species from the Solanaceae family, is recognized as a promising source of bioactive withanolides, particularly Aurelianolide A and B, which exhibit significant antitumoral activities. Despite its potential, research on the chemical constituents of this species remains limited. This study aimed to dereplicate extracts and partitions of to streamline the discovery of bioactive withanolides.

Objectives: Veterinarians and pharmacists are familiar with the efficacy and safety aspects attributed to active pharmaceutical ingredients included in medicines, but they are rarely concerned with the safety of excipients present in medicines. Although generally recognized as safe, excipients are not chemically inert and may produce adverse events in certain animal populations. This review aims to present excipients of concern to these populations and highlight their relevance for rational veterinary pharmacotherapy.

The rapid annotation and identification by mass spectrometry techniques of flavonoids remains a challenge, due to their structural diversity and the limited availability of reference standards. This study applies a workflow to characterize two isoflavonoids, the orobol-C-glycosides analogs, using high-energy collisional dissociation (HCD)- and collision-induced dissociation (CID)-type fragmentation patterns, and also to evaluate the antioxidant effects of these compounds by ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazolin acid) 6-sulfonic acid (ABTS), and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) methods. By the CID-type fragmentation, in positive mode and at all high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) multiple stage, there were shown differences in the annotation of the compounds, mainly concerning some ratios of relative abundance.

The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of training modality and exercise intensity on the modulation of lymphocytes CD4 count in people living with HIV (PLWH). A search for randomised controlled trials was performed using five databases (PubMed/Medline, Cochrane, LILACS, Scielo and CAPES). Meta-analyses of mean differences (MD) were conducted using a random-effects model to compare the effects of training modality and intensity on CD4 count.

Purpose Of Review: During Chagas disease, Trypanosoma cruzi alternates between intracellular and extracellular developmental forms. After presenting an overview about the roles of the contact system in immunity, I will review experimental studies showing that activation of the kallikrein-kinin system (KKS) translates into mutual benefits to the host/parasite relationship.

For decades, immunologists have considered the complement system as a paradigm of a proteolytic cascade that, acting cooperatively with the immune system, enhances host defense against infectious organisms. In recent years, advances made in thrombosis research disclosed a functional link between activated neutrophils, monocytes, and platelet-driven thrombogenesis. Forging a physical barrier, the fibrin scaffolds generated by synergism between the extrinsic and intrinsic (contact) pathways of coagulation entrap microbes within microvessels, limiting the systemic spread of infection while enhancing the clearance of pathogens by activated leukocytes.

Electrochemical therapy (EChT) entails treatment of solid tumors with direct electric current (DC). This work evaluated the specific effects of anodic flow generated by DC on biochemical and metabolic features of the A549 human lung cancer cell line. Apoptosis was evaluated on the basis of caspase-3 activity and mitochondrial transmembrane potential dissipation.

Piracetam improves cognitive function in animals and in human beings, but its mechanism of action is still not completely known. In the present study, we investigated whether enzymes involved in extracellular adenine nucleotide metabolism, adenosine triphosphate diphosphohydrolase (NTPDase), 5'-nucleotidase and adenosine deaminase (ADA) are affected by piracetam in the hippocampus and cerebral cortex of animals subjected to scopolamine-induced memory impairment. Piracetam (0.
