The utilization of silicomanganese slag (SMS) for the partial substitution of cement holds significant importance in handling environmental risks and achieving the harmless and resourceful utilization of industrial solid wastes. Nevertheless, an in-depth analysis of the leaching behaviors of heavy metals and the solidification/stabilization mechanisms in SMS and cementitious materials is still lacking. The hydrogen and carbon isotope fractionation factor (εH, εC) of dimethyl-, diethyl‑ and dibutyl phthalic acid ester during photosensitized degradation by artificial sunlight with Fe(III) ions and iron minerals (hematite, goethite and magnetite) in aqueous solution were examined by compound-specific isotope analysis (CSIA) in order to analyze the degradation mechanism. Hematite does not catalyze photosensitized degradation of phthalates. The correlation of H and C isotope fractionation (Λ = ΔδH/ΔδC) of phthalates with increasing chain length (dimethyl-; diethyl‑; and dibutyl-) were compared with values of the ∙OH radical model reaction with the aromatic ring as well as acidic and alkaline hydrolysis.

Non-ferrous mine waste dumps globally generate soil pollution characterized by low pH and high metal(loid)s content. In this study, the steel slag (SS), gypsum (G), and coal gangue (CG) combined with functional bacteria consortium (FB23) were used for immobilizing metal(loid)s in the soil. The result shown that FB23 can effectively decrease As, Pb, and Zn concentrations within 10 d in an aqueous medium experiment.

Electroreduction of nitrate (NORR) to ammonia in membraneless electrolyzers is of great significance for reducing the cost and saving energy consumption. However, severe chemical crossover with side reactions makes it challenging to achieve ideal electrolysis. Herein, we propose a general strategy for efficient membraneless ammonia synthesis by screening NORR catalysts with inferior oxygen reduction activity and matching the counter electrode (CE) with good oxygen evolution activity while blocking anodic ammonia oxidation.

This study continues the discussion on the surface modification of polymers using an atmospheric pressure plasma (APP) reactor in air. These results complement prior research focusing on nonpolar polymers. To remediate the Cr(VI)-organic co-contaminants in a non-ferrous mining area, a gallic acid (GA) accelerated lead-zinc smelting slag (LZSS, a mine-sourced waste) mediated peroxodisulfate (PDS) Fenton-like system was constructed for degradation of two typical flotation reagents (benzotriazole and N-hydroxyphthalimide). LZSS acting as an in-situ Fe source in the Fenton-like process, could continuously release Fe species, while GA as a chelate with reducing properties was able to accelerate the rate-limiting step of Fe(III)/Fe(II) cycle to enhance the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). In the LZSS/PDS/GA system, produced SO, OH and Fe(IV) jointly contributed to the contaminant removal through radical/nonradical pathways.
