Studies examined the connection between antibiotic exposure in urine and dysglycemia risk (including prediabetes and diabetes) in the elderly were limited. Multiple linear regression, binary logistic regression, restricted cubic splines (RCS), and stratified analysis were applied to analyze the relationship between antibiotic exposure and dysglycemia risk. We observed that sulfaclozine exposure 0.

Biofilms contribute to the resistance of Edwardsiella tarda to antibiotics and host immunity. AroC in the shikimate pathway produces chorismate to synthesize crucial intermediates such as indole. In this study, the differences between biofilms produced by aroC mutants (△aroC), wild-type (WT) strains, and △aroC complementary strains (C△aroC) were detected both in vitro with 96-well plates, tubes, or coverslips and in vivo using a mouse model of subcutaneous implants.

Background: Previous studies have indicated that the deposition of abdominal adipose tissue was associated with the abnormalities of cardiometabolic components. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship of visceral adipose tissue (VAT), subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) and metabolic status and the different effects between males and females.
Methods: The 1388 eligible subjects were recruited in a baseline survey of metabolic syndrome in China, from two communities in Hangzhou and Chengdu.

Benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P) is a known human carcinogen and plays a major function in the initiation of lung cancer at its first proximity. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms are less well understood. In this study, we investigated the impact of B[a]P treatment on the DNA methylation and mRNA levels of , and in human bronchial epithelial cells (16HBEs), and provide scientific evidence for the mechanism study on the carcinogenesis of B[a]P.

Potential zoonotic pathogens may be transmitted from wildlife to humans through the illegal wild meat trade, which has become a pressing issue. However, research on the antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs) of Malayan pangolin (Manis javanica) intestinal bacteria is limited. Here, multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli M172-1 (ST354) isolated from Malayan pangolin feces in 2019 was found to be resistant to 13 antibiotics.

Background: Understanding the transmissibility and pathogenicity of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is crucial for control policies, but evidence remains limited.
Methods: We presented a systematic and meta-analytic summary concerning the transmissibility and pathogenicity of COVID-19.
Results: A total of 105 studies were identified, with 35042 infected cases and 897912 close contacts.
Background: The global epidemic of novel coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19) has resulted in substantial healthcare resource consumption. Since patients' hospital length of stay (LoS) is at stake in the process, an investigation of COVID-19 patients' LoS and its risk factors becomes urgent for a better understanding of regional capabilities to cope with COVID-19 outbreaks.
Methods: First, we obtained retrospective data of confirmed COVID-19 patients in Sichuan province via National Notifiable Diseases Reporting System (NNDRS) and field surveys, including their demographic, epidemiological, clinical characteristics and LoS.

The late occurrence of adiposity peak (AP) and the early occurrence of adiposity rebound (AR) are considered the earliest indicators for obesity and its related health conditions later in life. However, there is still limited information for their upstream factors. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to identify the parental and child factors associated with the timing of AP and AR in the early stage of life.

Residues from multiple pesticides are frequently detected on vegetables, which may produce combined toxicity not predicted by individual toxicity data. As these combined effects present additional dangers to food safety, we have compared individual to combined effects for a variety of pesticides. Carbendazim and chlorpyrifos are the two most commonly detected pesticides in vegetables, and previous studies reported that combined exposure results in synergistic developmental toxicity to zebrafish embryos.

Benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P) is neurotoxic, however, the mechanisms remain unclear and there is no effective prevention. Available evidence suggests a role of DNA methylation in B[a]P-induced neurotoxicity. This study investigated the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) IV methylation in the development of and aspirin intervention against B[a]P's neurotoxicity in mice and HT22 cells.

Carbendazim (CAR) and enrofloxacin (ENF) are frequently detected in fruits and meat products, respectively. Since most people consume fruits, vegetables, and meat products, combined exposure is possible, necessitating further evaluation of toxic interactions. In this study, the developmental toxicity of separate and combined exposure was examined in zebrafish embryos.

Difenoconazole (DIF) and dimethomorph (DIM) are widely used pesticides frequently detected together in environmental samples, so the deleterious effects of combined exposure warrant detailed examination. In this study, the individual and combined effects of DIM and DIF on conventional developmental parameters (hatching rate, deformity rate, lethality) and gene expression were measured in embryonic zebrafish. Both DIF and DIM interfered with normal zebrafish embryo development, and the most sensitive toxicity index for both was 96 h post-fertilization (hpf) deformity rate (BMDL values of 0.

Drinking water is considered to be an important exposure pathway for humans to ingest trace elements; human urine samples are widely accepted as biometric substrates that can reflect human exposure to trace elements. The current study aimed at investigating the concentrations of trace elements including selenium (Se), arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), manganese (Mn), nickel (Ni), lead (Pb), and zinc (Zn) in drinking water and human urine in plateau region of China, determining the association among trace elements in drinking water and urine, and analyzing their associations with age and gender. The results showed that the majority of trace element concentrations were in the range of the World Health Organization (WHO 2011) guideline values, in both urine samples of male and female, and the median values were descending in the order: Zn > Cu > As > Se > Cr > Ni > Mn > Pb > Cd > Co.

Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a cluster of multiple cardiometabolic risk factors that increase the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Identifying novel biomarkers of MetS and their genetic associations could provide insights into the mechanisms of cardiometabolic diseases.
Methods: Potential MetS-associated metabolites were screened and internally validated by untargeted metabolomics analyses among 693 patients with MetS and 705 controls.

Due to the similar clinical symptoms of influenza (Flu) and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), there is a looming infection threat of concurrent Flu viruses and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). In this work, we introduce a customized isothermal amplification integrated lateral flow strip (LFS) that is capable performing duplex reverse transcription-recombinase polymerase amplification (RT-RPA) and colorimetric LFS in a sequential manner. With customized amplification primer sets targeted to SARS-CoV-2 (opening reading frame 1a/b and nucleoprotein genes) and Flu viruses (Flu A and Flu B), the platform allows the rapid and simultaneous visual screening of SARS-CoV-2 and Flu viruses (Flu A and Flu B) without cross reactivity, false positives, and false negatives.

To explore the trend of sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) incidence rate over time in rural west China. We scanned probable SUDEP patients from the epilepsy program between 2010 and 2019 in rural West China and performed a verbal autopsy for each eligible patient. We calculated the crude and sex-adjusted incidence rate of SUDEP per person-year over a calendar year and the year of follow-up.
