Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a high-fat high-sucrose (HFHS) diet on previously reported adaptations of cardiac morphological and contractile properties to resistance training.
Methods: Twelve-week-old rats participated in 12-weeks of resistance exercise training and consumed an HFHS diet. Echocardiography and skinned cardiac muscle fiber bundle testing were performed to determine the structural and mechanical adaptations.

Background: The hip abductor muscles, primarily the gluteus medius, play an important role in stabilizing the pelvis during gait. Gluteus medius weakness is associated with biomechanical changes and musculoskeletal disorders. Individuals with obesity can have great difficulty maintaining abductor muscular function due to being overweight and possibly experiencing a decrease in muscle mass.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to describe the anatomy of donor and recipient median nerve motor branches for nerve transfer surgery within the cubital fossa.
Methods: Bilateral upper limbs of 10 fresh cadavers were dissected after dyed latex was injected into the axillary artery.
Results: In the cubital fossa, the first branch was always the proximal branch of the pronator teres (PPT), whereas the last one was the anterior interosseous nerve (AIN) and the distal motor branch of the flexor digitorum superficialis (DFDS) on a consistent basis.

Isomaltulose is an alternative sugar obtained from sucrose using some bacteria producing glycosyltransferase. This work aimed to optimize conditions for the immobilization of Serratia plymuthica through ionic gelation and cross-linking by transglutaminase using the sequential experimental strategy for the conversion of sucrose into isomaltulose. The effect of five variables (concentrations of cell mass, alginate, gelatin, transglutaminase, and calcium chloride) was studied, as well as the interactions between them on the matrix composition for the S.

The present study was conducted to decipher the proteome of in vivo-produced pre-implantation ovine embryos. Ten locally adapted Morana Nova ewes received hormonal treatment and were inseminated 12 hr after ovulation. Six days later, 54 embryos (morula and blastocyst developmental state) were recovered from eight ewes and pooled to obtain sufficient protein for proteomic analysis.

Objectives: Epidemiological studies indicate an association between vitamin D deficiency and obesity. However, there is no consistent evidence of the direction or causal relationship between these conditions. Thus, we analysed the longitudinal relationship between vitamin D deficiency and obesity/adiposity in different age groups.

Purpose: To evaluate claw deformity correction following anterior interosseous nerve (AIN) end-to-end transfer to the deep motor branch of the ulnar nerve (DMBUN) in high ulnar nerve injuries.
Methods: Eleven patients were retrospectively evaluated for metacarpophalangeal joint hyperextension and proximal interphalangeal joint extension lag in the fourth and fifth digits following ulnar nerve injury adjacent or proximal to the elbow, who underwent AIN end-to-end transfer to the DMBUN.
Results: Patients underwent surgery an average of 5 months following injury (range, 2-9 months) and were followed for an average of 19 months after surgery (range, 12-30 months).

COVID-19 is the disease caused by Novel Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) infection and world current main public health problem, due to its easy transmissibility and multiple clinical presentations. The main symptoms reported worldwide are dry cough, dyspnea, and fever, as well as anosmia and ageusia. COVID-19 diagnosis is made with RT-PCR, but many other complementary exams may be used to guide clinical practice, such as Chest Computerized Tomography (CT), showing ground glass opacities; increase in inflammatory markers, as C-Reactive Protein and Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate; hemogram might show hypoalbuminemia, thrombocytopenia.

The current treatment of leishmaniasis presents some problems, such as cell toxicity, parenteral route, and time of treatment. Ozone emerges as an option to accelerate the standard treatment due to the immunomodulatory, antioxidant, and wound healing activity reported in the literature. This work aimed to evaluate the efficacy of aqueous ozone as an adjuvant to the standard treatment of cutaneous lesions caused by Leishmania amazonensis in an experimental model.

The genus Haemagogus (Diptera: Culicidae) comprises species of great epidemiological relevance, involved in transmission cycles of the Yellow fever virus and other arboviruses in South America. So far, only Haemagogus janthinomys has complete mitochondrial sequences available. Given the unavailability of information related to aspects of the evolutionary biology and molecular taxonomy of this genus, we report here, the first sequencing of the mitogenomes of Haemagogus albomaculatus, Haemagogus leucocelaenus, Haemagogus spegazzinii, and Haemagogus tropicalis.

The SARS-Cov-2 is a single-stranded RNA virus composed of 16 non-structural proteins (NSP 1-16) with specific roles in the replication of coronaviruses. NSP3 has the property to block host innate immune response and to promote cytokine expression. NSP5 can inhibit interferon (IFN) signalling and NSP16 prevents MAD5 recognition, depressing the innate immunity.
