Dengue is the most prevalent arboviral disease globally, with Brazil currently experiencing a significant rise in cases. Dengue virus (DENV) typically co-circulates with other clinically and antigenically similar flaviviruses, such as Zika virus (ZIKV). The clinical diagnosis is difficult and accurate serological analysis represents an unmet challenge.

The variola virus, the causative agent of smallpox, has claimed more human lives than all other infectious diseases combined. Consequently, any epidemiological event involving related viruses (orthopoxviruses) triggers significant concern, as was the case with the pandemic rise of monkeypox virus (MPXV), the causative agent of monkeypox in 2022-2023. Smallpox vaccines, based on vaccinia virus antigens, are expected to provide cross-protection against MPXV.

The raising of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants led to the use of COVID-19 bivalent vaccines, which include antigens of the wild-type (WT) virus, and of the Omicron strain. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the impact of bivalent vaccination on the neutralizing antibody (NAb) response. We enrolled 93 volunteers who had received three or four doses of monovalent vaccines based on the original virus (n = 61), or a booster shot with the bivalent vaccine (n = 32).

The emergence of SARS-CoV-2 had a major impact across the world. It is true that the collaboration of scientists from all over the world resulted in a rapid response against COVID-19, mainly with the development of vaccines against the disease. However, many viral genetic variants that threaten vaccines have emerged.

Chikungunya, mayaro, dengue, zika, and yellow fever are mosquito-borne viral diseases caused, respectively, by , (CHIKV and MAYV, respectively: : ), , (DENV, ZIKV, and YFV, respectively: : ). These viruses have an important epidemiological impact worldwide, especially in Brazil. Western Bahia is one of the less studied regions in that country regarding the circulation of these pathogens.

Objective: To evaluate the association between the prevalence of pulp stones (PS) in permanent teeth and calcified atherosclerotic plaques (CAP).
Methods: An electronic search was performed in 10 databases to locate observational studies that investigated the association between PS in permanent teeth and CAP, published until March 2022. Two reviewers performed the search, selection and extraction of data from eligible studies.

In squamate reptiles, extensive innervation of the heart and vascular beds allows for continuous modulation of the cardiovascular system by the autonomic nervous system. The systemic vasculature is the main target of excitatory sympathetic adrenergic fibers, while the pulmonary circulation has been described as less responsive to both nervous and humoral modulators. However, histochemical evidence has demonstrated the presence of adrenergic fibers in pulmonary circulation.

This study aimed to evaluate the enzymatic activity of the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) in children and adolescents to investigate their relationship with dyslipidemia and other cardiometabolic alterations. Anthropometric measurements, blood pressure (BP), and fasting lipid concentrations were taken from 360 subjects. Categorization was done according to the levels of each lipoprotein (total cholesterol, triglycerides (TG), LDL-C, HDL-C, and non-HDL-C) into three groups: normolipidemic (NL), borderline (BL), and dyslipidemic (DL).

This study evaluated the effects of a phenolic-rich extract from jabuticaba [Myrciaria jaboticaba (Vell.) Berg] depulping waste (PEJ) on the survival, antibiotic susceptibility, virulence, and cellular functions of various enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) strains. The minimum inhibitory concentration of PEJ against the five tested ETEC strains was 125 mg mL-1.

The main coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine formulations used today are mainly based on the wild-type severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) spike glycoprotein as an antigen. However, new virus variants capable of escaping neutralization activity of serum antibodies elicited in vaccinated individuals have emerged. The Omicron (B.

Traditional transcriptomics approaches have been used to identify candidate genes affecting economically important livestock traits. Regulatory variants affecting these traits, however, remain under covered. Genomic regions showing allele-specific expression (ASE) are under the effect of -regulatory variants, being useful for improving the accuracy of genomic selection models.

Background: The correct understanding of the epidemiological dynamics of COVID-19, caused by the SARS-CoV-2, is essential for formulating public policies of disease containment.
Methods: In this study, we constructed a picture of the epidemiological dynamics of COVID-19 in a Brazilian population of almost 17000 patients in 15 months. We specifically studied the fluctuations of COVID-19 cases and deaths due to COVID-19 over time according to host gender, age, viral load, and genetic variants.

Single nucleotide polymorphisms showing allele-specific expression (ASE SNPs) are useful for cis-regulatory variants discovery. Despite this potential, there are expensive costs involved in genome-level ASE analysis for large sample sizes. If different data resolutions are available, genotype imputation can be used to mitigate this limitation.

Cancer cells are embedded within the tissue and interact dynamically with its components during cancer progression. Understanding the contribution of cellular components within the tumor microenvironment is crucial for the success of therapeutic applications. Here, we reveal the presence of perivascular GFAP+/Plp1+ cells within the tumor microenvironment.

Introduction: Oral anticancer therapy has the benefit of allowing cancer patients to carry out their treatment at home, without being inconvenienced or being at risk of nosocomial infection. However, non-adherence is a public health problem that contributes to the clinical decline of the patient and there are no studies submitted on the adherence of cancer patients to oral anti-anticancer agents in Santarém, PA.
Objective: In view of this, the general objective of this work was to evaluate this oral medication adherence.

Craniopharyngioma is a rare embryonic malformation, usually benign, of the sellar or parasellar regions. In this study, an uncommon case of third ventricle craniopharyngioma and a succinct review of its prevalence are presented. Even with low mortality rates, these injuries involve a high degree of endocrinological, visual, and neuropsychological morbidities, which have a huge impact on the patient's quality of life.

Background: Phylogenetic studies indicate bats as original hosts of SARS-CoV-2. However, it remains unclear whether other animals, including pets, are crucial in the spread and maintenance of COVID-19 worldwide.
Methods: In this study, we analyzed the first fatal case of a SARS-CoV-2 and FeLV co-infection in an eight-year-old male cat.

A third vaccine dose against COVID-19 is already a reality in some countries around the world. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the Brazilian immunization policy for COVID-19, which involves a booster shot. Participants ( = 210) provided serum samples, which were subjected to enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
