Background: There are two main methods used to treat Achilles tendon rupture (ATR): conservative treatment and surgical intervention. Surgical techniques are divided into three main categories: open surgical repair, mini-open surgical repair, and percutaneous repair (PR). We aimed to compare clinical outcomes in individuals with ATR who were treated with PR, primary repair, and flexor hallucis longus augmentation (FHL-A) with those treated with V-Y plasty and FHL-A.

Introduction: Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) affects approximately 46,000 people in France annually and survival remains low. There is no published data specific to the characteristics and outcomes of OHCA in French overseas territories, especially in the French Caribbean territories. The aim of this study was to describe the characteristics and outcomes of adult OHCA patients managed by the Emergency Medical Service team (EMS) in Martinique.

Variations in Neuromuscular Functions After Platelet-Rich Plasma and Dextrose Injections in Chronic Lateral Epicondylitis: A Randomized Controlled Study.

Background: Lateral epicondylitis is caused by overuse and manifests as pain, weakness, and difficulty with object manipulation. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and dextrose injections have shown promise in reducing pain and improving function.

Hypothesis: PRP is more effective for force precision control of the extensor carpi radialis brevis (ECRB) muscle than dextrose injection for patients with chronic lateral epicondylitis (CLE).

Associations between inflammation and striatal dopamine D2-receptor availability in aging.

Background: Normal brain aging is associated with dopamine decline, which has been linked to age-related cognitive decline. Factors underlying individual differences in dopamine integrity at older ages remain, however, unclear. Here we aimed at investigating: (i) whether inflammation is associated with levels and 5-year changes of in vivo dopamine D2-receptor (DRD2) availability, (ii) if DRD2-inflammation associations differ between men and women, and (iii) whether inflammation and cerebral small-vessel disease (white-matter lesions) serve as two independent predictors of DRD2 availability.

Background: Insightful motion analysis provides valuable information for athlete health, a crucial aspect of sports medicine. This systematic review presents an analytical overview of the use of various sensors in motion analysis for sports injury assessment.

Methods: A comprehensive search of PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, and Web of Science was conducted in February 2024 using search terms related to "sport", "athlete", "sensor-based technology", "motion analysis", and "injury.

Introduction: Resting state-fMRI, provides a sensitive method for detecting changes in brain functional integrity, both with respect to regional oxygenated blood flow and whole network connectivity. The primary goal of this report was to examine alterations in functional connectivity in collegiate American football players after a season of repetitive head impact exposure.

Methods: Collegiate football players completed a rs-fMRI at pre-season and 1 week into post-season.

Promotion of Physical Activity by Health Professionals (PROMOTE-PA): protocol for effectiveness outcomes in a hybrid type I effectiveness-implementation cluster randomised controlled trial.

Promotion of physical activity by health professionals can increase physical activity participation among patients, however, implementing physical activity promotion within hospital systems is lacking. The Promotion of Physical Activity by Health Professionals (PROMOTE-PA) study is a hybrid type I effectiveness-implementation cluster randomised controlled trial evaluating the effectiveness of support for physical activity promotion by health professionals on physical activity participation of patients. Health professionals delivering outpatient healthcare services within four local health districts and one specialty health network in New South Wales, Australia will be included.

Genetics, sex and the use of platelet-rich plasma influence the development of arthrofibrosis after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.

Purpose: To identify genes and patient factors that are related to the development of arthrofibrosis in patients after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction and to develop a prognostic model.

Methods: The study included patients diagnosed with ACL injury who underwent ACL reconstruction. Patients were enroled consecutively and divided into non-fibrotic (controls) and fibrotic (cases) groups until a balanced sample of matched case-control was achieved.

Background: The elderly US population is growing quickly and staying active longer. However, there is limited information on sports-related injuries in older adults.

Hypotheses: (1) National estimate and incidence of sports-related orthopaedic injuries in the US elderly population have increased over the last 10 years, (2) types and causes of sports-related injuries in the elderly have changed, and (3) elderly sports-related injuries will increase more than the number of treating physicians by 2040.

Gut Microbiota and Osteoarthritis: From Pathogenesis to Novel Therapeutic Opportunities.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common chronic degenerative joint disease, characterized by cartilage damage, synovial inflammation, subchondral bone sclerosis, marginal bone loss, and osteophyte development. Clinical manifestations include inflammatory joint pain, swelling, osteophytes, and limitation of motion. The pathogenesis of osteoarthritis has not yet been fully uncovered.

Synovial biomarkers in the diagnosis of post-traumatic osteoarthritis following anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus injuries: protocol for a systematic review.

Introduction: This review aims to synthesise research evidence regarding biomarkers in the synovial fluid that may predict the risk of post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) in young adults. Considering the high prevalence of knee joint injuries, particularly among youth sports athletes, this review will focus on anterior cruciate ligament and/or meniscal ruptures. These injuries are highly associated with PTOA, with studies indicating that even with surgical reconstruction, 50%-80% of affected individuals develop knee PTOA within a 10-year follow-up.

Physical activity (PA) during pregnancy in Greece.

Objective: To evaluate the amount and types of physical activity (PA) performed by Greek women during pregnancy and assess the validity and reliability of the Greek version of the Pregnancy Physical Activity Questionnaire (PPAQ).

Study Design: This prospective study comprised two stages. The first stage was the completion of the PPAQ Greek version twice, with a one-week interval between the two rounds, to assess internal consistency and reproductivity.

The objective of the current review was to identify whether clinically established lung function metrics of ventilatory and diffusion capacity obtained by standardised methodology are consistent with superior lung function in athletes, and whether this is related to maximal oxygen uptake (V̇O). Three independent reviewers performed a literature search in PubMed, Scopus, and reference screening. Data was extracted and analysed according to a predefined strategy.
