The coexistence of marine sensitive areas with the oil industry requires robust preparedness and rapid response capabilities for monitoring and mitigating oil spill events. Scientifically proven satellite-based methods for the visual detection of oil spills are widely recognized as effective, low-cost, transferable, scalable, and operational solutions, particularly in developing economies. A seemingly ubiquitous irrational number often appearing in nature and in man-made things like structures, paintings, and physical systems, is the golden number. Here, we show that this astonishing number appears in the periodic solutions of an underactuated mass-spring oscillator driven by a nonlinear self-excitation. Specifically, by using the two-time scale perturbation method, it is analytically demonstrated that the golden number appears in the ratio of amplitudes, as well as in the oscillation frequency of the periodic solution, which is referred to as golden solution and, by applying the Poincaré method, it is demonstrated that this solution is asymptotically stable.

Mesostructured pillared zeolite materials in the form of lamellar phases with a crystal structure of mordenite (MOR) and ZSM-5 (MFI) were grown using CTAB as an agent that creates mesopores, in a one-pot synthesis; then into the CTAB layers separating the 2D zeolite plates were introduced by diffusion the TEOS molecules which were further hydrolyzed, and finally the material was annealed to remove the organic phase, leaving the 2D zeolite plates separated by pillars of silicon dioxide. To monitor the successive structural changes and the state of the atoms of the zeolite framework and organic compounds at all the steps of the synthesis of pillared MOR and MFI zeolites, the nuclear magnetic resonance method (NMR) with magic angle spinning (MAS) was applied. The Al and Si MAS NMR spectra confirm the regularity of the zeolite frameworks of the as synthetized materials.

The Southern Gulf of Mexico is an area highly impacted by crude oil extraction, refining activities and the presence of natural petroleum seepage. Oceanic currents in the Gulf of Mexico continually facilitate the transport of hydrocarbons to lagoons and rivers. This research evaluated hexadecane (HXD) degradation in marine sediment samples from lagoons and rivers that are fed by the Southern Gulf of Mexico, specifically six samples from rivers, three samples from lagoons, and one sample from a marine outfall.

The population of the Chilean endemic marine gastropod Concholepas concholepas locally called "loco" has dramatically decreased in the past 50 years as a result of intense activity of local fisheries and high environmental variability observed along the Chilean coast, including episodes of hypoxia, changes in sea surface temperature, ocean acidification and diseases.
