Stack-AVP: A Stacked Ensemble Predictor Based on Multi-view Information for Fast and Accurate Discovery of Antiviral Peptides.

J Mol Biol

November 2024

Center for Research Innovation and Biomedical Informatics, Faculty of Medical Technology, Mahidol University, Bangkok 10700, Thailand. Electronic address:

AVPs, or antiviral peptides, are short chains of amino acids capable of inhibiting viral replication, preventing viral entry, or disrupting viral membranes. They represent a promising area of research for developing new antiviral therapies due to their potential to target a broad spectrum of viruses, incorporating those resistant to traditional antiviral drugs. However, traditional experimental methods for identifying AVPs are often costly and labour-intensive.

This study examines the effects of environmental conditions on venom production in four prevalent scorpion species in Morocco: Androctonus amoreuxi, Androctonus mauretanicus, Buthus mardochei, and Scorpio maurus. The research focuses on how climatic factors such as temperature, humidity, and diet-specifically mealworm consumption-affect physical parameters including size and weight, and ultimately venom yield. We conducted a comprehensive investigation involving the capture, acclimatization, and systematic venom extraction from 480 scorpions.

Phospholipase C zeta: a hidden face of sperm for oocyte activation and early embryonic development.

Obstet Gynecol Sci

September 2024

Reproductive Medicine, Developmental and Reproductive Biology, Regional University Hospital & School of Medicine and Peritox Laboratory, Picardie University Jules Verne, Amiens, France.

Oocyte activation is a fundamental event in mammalian fertilization and is initiated by a cascade of calcium signaling and oscillation pathways. Phospholipase C zeta (PLCζ) is involved in modulating cortical granule exocytosis, releasing oocyte meiotic arrest, regulating gene expression, and early embryogenesis. These processes are considered to be initiated and controlled by PLCζ activity via the inositol-1,4,5-triphosphate pathway.
