To assess the prognostic impact of the neoadjuvant rectal (NAR) score following neoadjuvant short-course radiotherapy and consolidation chemotherapy in locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC), as well as its value in guiding decisions for adjuvant chemotherapy. Between August 2015 and August 2018, patients were eligible from the STELLAR phase III trial (NCT02533271) who received short-course radiotherapy plus consolidation chemotherapy and for whom the NAR score could be calculated. Based on the NAR score, patients were categorized into low (<8), intermediate (8-16), and high (>16) groups.

Purpose: The Xsight lung tracking system (XLTS) utilizes an advanced image processing algorithm to precisely identify the position of a tumor and determine its location in orthogonal x-ray images, instead of finding fiducials, thereby minimizing the risk of fiducial insertion-related side effects. To assess and gauge the effectiveness of CyberKnife Synchrony in treating liver tumors located in close proximity to or within the diaphragm, we employed the Xsight diaphragm tracking system (XDTS), which was based on the XLTS.
Methods: We looked back at the treatment logs of 11 patients (8/11 [XDTS], 3/11 [Fiducial-based Target Tracking System-FTTS]) who had liver tumors in close proximity to or within the diaphragm.
: The external fixation (EF) Ilizarov method, shown to offer efficacy and relative safety, has unique biomechanical properties. Intramedullary nail fixation (IMN) is an advantageous alternative, offering biomechanical stability and a minimally invasive procedure. The aim of this study was to assess outcomes in patients undergoing tibia fracture fixation, comparing the Ilizarov EF and IMN methods in an early phase of IMN implementation in Serbia.

The timing of radiotherapy (RT) delivery has been reported to affect both cancer survival and treatment toxicity. However, the association among the timing of RT delivery, survival, and toxicity in locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (LA-NPC) has not been investigated. We retrospectively reviewed patients diagnosed with LA-NPC who received definitive RT at multiple institutions.

BACKGROUND Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common of head and neck malignancies in well-developed countries. In most cases, patients with OSCC experience a degree of nutritional status disturbances and decreased quality of life (QoL). This study aimed to compare nutritional status and QoL in 51 patients before and after surgery for OSCC.

Background: We aimed to explore the application value of various machine learning (ML) algorithms based on multicenter CT radiomics in identifying peripheral nerve invasion (PNI) of colorectal cancer (CRC).
Methods: A total of 268 patients with colorectal cancer who underwent CT examination in two hospitals from January 2016 to December 2022 were considered. Imaging and clinicopathological data were collected through the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).

Inferior vena cava (IVC) anomalies are uncommon congenital causes of deep vein thrombosis (DVT). KILT syndrome (kidney and IVC abnormalities with leg thrombosis) has only been described as case reports in the literature. Therefore, the characteristics, evaluation, and management of patients with KILT syndrome have not yet been standardized.

Emphysematous pancreatitis represents the presence of gas within or around the pancreas on the ground of necrotizing pancreatitis due to superinfection with gas-forming bacteria. This entity is diagnosed on clinical grounds and on the basis of radiologic findings. Computed tomography is the preferred imaging modality used to detect this life-threating condition.

Objectives: To collect real-world data about the knowledge and self-perception of young radiologists concerning the use of contrast media (CM) and the management of adverse drug reactions (ADR).
Methods: A survey (29 questions) was distributed to residents and board-certified radiologists younger than 40 years to investigate the current international situation in young radiology community regarding CM and ADRs. Descriptive statistics analysis was performed.

Purpose: To explore the impact of excluding the external iliac node (EIN) from the clinical target volume (CTV) during preoperative radiotherapy in T4b rectal cancer with anterior structure invasion.
Methods: We retrospectively identified 132 patients with T4b rectal cancer involving the anterior structures who received radiotherapy followed by surgery between May 2010 and June 2019. Twenty-nine patients received EIN irradiation (EIN group), and 103 did not (NEIN group).

Background: Lymphovascular invasion (LVI) and perineural invasion (PNI) are important prognostic factors for gastric cancer (GC) that indicate an increased risk of metastasis and poor outcomes. Accurate preoperative prediction of LVI/PNI status could help clinicians identify high-risk patients and guide treatment decisions. However, prior models using conventional computed tomography (CT) images to predict LVI or PNI separately have had limited accuracy.

Small bowel obstruction is a frequent medical condition with various causes, the most common being postoperative adhesions, volvulus, intussusception, hernias, and tumors. A bezoar-induced blockage of the small intestine is a rare condition that accounts for approximately 4% of all small bowel obstruction cases. Herein, we present the case report of a 71-year-old patient with diffuse abdominal pain caused by a small bowel obstruction due to a calcified bezoar (bezoar egg) resulting from a post-radiation intestinal stricture.

Background: The interaction of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), host and antiretroviral therapy (ART) causes a range of metabolic disorders that can be characterized as a metabolic syndrome (MetS) that increases the cardiovascular risk. MetS involves central obesity, which can be detected using different anthropometric parameters.
Objective: To assess the abilities of different anthropometric parameters in the prediction of MetS in HIV-infected men on ART.

Introduction: Differences in pathophysiology, clinical presentation, and natural course of ST-elevation myocardial infarction in female patients due to either spontaneous dissection (SCAD-STEMI) or atherothrombotic occlusion (type 1 STEMI) have been discussed. Current knowledge on differences in left ventricular myocardial function and infarct size is limited. The aim of this study was to assess baseline clinical characteristics, imaging findings, and therapeutic approach and to compare differences in echocardiographic findings at baseline and 3-month follow-up in patients with SCAD-STEMI and type 1 STEMI.

The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has brought into sharp relief the threat posed by coronaviruses and laid the foundation for a fundamental analysis of this viral family, as well as a search for effective anti-COVID drugs. Work is underway to update existent vaccines against COVID-19, and screening for low-molecular-weight anti-COVID drug candidates for outpatient medicine continues. The opportunities and ways to accelerate the development of antiviral drugs against other pathogens are being discussed in the context of preparing for the next pandemic.
