Stroke ranks as the second leading cause of disability and mortality globally. Biomarker detection represents a promising avenue for predicting disease severity and prognosis. The expression levels of metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), neuron-specific enolase (NSE), and N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-pro BNP) in blood correlate with stroke severity.

January 2024

Institute of Food Science and Technology, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Key Laboratory of Agro-Products Processing, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Beijing 100193, P. R. China.

Low-voltage electrostatic fields (LVEF) are recognized as a new technology that can improve the quality of frozen meat. To determine the extent to which LVEF assistance affects the quality of frozen pork for long-term storage, pork was frozen and stored at -18 and -38 °C for up to 5 months. Water-holding capacity, muscle microstructure, and protein properties were investigated after up to 5 months of frozen storage with and without LVEF assistance.

Mar Pollut Bull

March 2023

Key Laboratory of Bioresource and Environmental Biotechnology of Anhui Higher Education Institutes, Huainan normal university, Huainan 232001, China.

In order to understand the characteristics of speciation and ecological risk of potentially toxic element (PTE) pollution in the surface sediment of huaihe river (Anhui province), 23 surface sediment samples were collected. The occurrence characteristics of PTEs (As, Cr, Zn, Cu, Cd, Pb, Mn) were analyzed by modified continuous extraction method (BCR), and the pollution status and potential ecological risk of PTEs were comprehensively evaluated by Pollution Load Index (PLI), Geoaccumulation Index (Igeo), Enrichment Factor (EF) and the risk assessment code (RAC). Results showed that the total concentrations of As, Mn, Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb, and Zn in sediment were 14.

Graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN), with facile synthesis, unique structure, high stability, and low cost, has been the hotspot in the field of photocatalysis. However, the photocatalytic performance of g-CN is still unsatisfactory due to insufficient capture of visible light, low surface area, poor electronic conductivity, and fast recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. Thus, different modification strategies have been developed to improve its performance.

Colon ascendens stent peritonitis (CASP) surgery induces a leakage of intestinal contents which may cause polymicrobial sepsis related to post-operative failure of remote multi-organs (including kidney, liver, lung and heart) and possible death from systemic syndromes. Mechanisms underlying such phenomena remain unclear. This article aims to elucidate the mechanisms underlying the CASP-model sepsis by analyzing real-world GEO data (GSE24327_A, B and C) generated from mice spleen 12 hours after a CASP-surgery in septic MyD88-deficient and wildtype mice, compared with untreated wildtype mice.

Extreme learning machine: a new alternative for measuring heat collection rate and heat loss coefficient of water-in-glass evacuated tube solar water heaters.

Springerplus

June 2016

School of Computing, Informatics, Decision Systems Engineering (CIDSE), Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering, Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ 85281 USA.

Background: Heat collection rate and heat loss coefficient are crucial indicators for the evaluation of in service water-in-glass evacuated tube solar water heaters. However, the direct determination requires complex detection devices and a series of standard experiments, wasting too much time and manpower.

Findings: To address this problem, we previously used artificial neural networks and support vector machine to develop precise knowledge-based models for predicting the heat collection rates and heat loss coefficients of water-in-glass evacuated tube solar water heaters, setting the properties measured by "portable test instruments" as the independent variables.

To investigate the prevalence of lipophilic marine biotoxins in shellfish from the Chinese market, we used hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) to measure levels of okadaic acid (OA), azaspiracid (AZA1), pectenotoxin (PTX2), gymnodimine (GYM), and spirolide (SPX1). We collected and analyzed 291 shellfish samples from main production sites along a wide latitudinal transect along the Chinese coastline from December 2008 to December 2009. Results revealed a patchy distribution of the five toxins and highlighted the specific geographical distribution and seasonal and species variation of the putative toxigenic organisms.

In the ancient history of the Yue Nation, the Chinese Tongshan kaoliang spirit (CTKS) has been one of the most popular liquor in the last 2,500 years. The most common fraudulent practice for the commercialization of CTKS is to produce and sell adulterated spirit from different geographical origins. In this study, the use of GC-flash electronic nose (EN) technique combined with chemometrics analysis has proven to provide a rapid tool for the discrimination of CTKS from different geographical origins.

September 2014

Key Laboratory of Testing and Evaluation for Aquatic Product Safety and Quality, Ministry of Agriculture; Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, Qingdao 266071, China; Carbon-sink Fisheries Laboratory, Qingdao 266071, China; National Center for Quality Supervision and Test of Aquatic Products, Qingdao 266071, China.

A liquid chromatography quadrupole linear ion trap mass spectrometry method with fast polarity switching and a scheduled multiple reaction monitoring algorithm mode was developed for multiclass screening and identification of lipophilic marine biotoxins in bivalve molluscs. A major advantage of the method is that it can detect members of all six groups of lipophilic marine biotoxins [okadaic acid (OA), yessotoxins (YTX), azaspiracids (AZA), pectenotoxins (PTX), cyclic imines (CI), and brevetoxins (PbTx)], thereby allowing quantification and high confidence identification from a single liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) injection. An enhanced product ion (EPI) library was constructed after triggered collection of data via information-dependent acquisition (IDA) of EPI spectra from standard samples.

A method was established to analyse the overlapped chromatographic peaks based on the chromatographic-spectra data detected by the diode-array ultraviolet detector. In the method, the three-dimensional data were de-noised and normalized firstly; secondly the differences and clustering analysis of the spectra at different time points were calculated; then the purity of the whole chromatographic peak were analysed and the region were sought out in which the spectra of different time points were stable. The feature spectra were extracted from the spectrum-stable region as the basic foundation.
