Precise volumetric measurement of newly formed bone after maxillary sinus floor augmentation (MSFA) can help clinicians in planning for dental implants. This study aimed to introduce a novel modular framework to facilitate volumetric calculations based on manually drawn segmentations of user-defined areas of interest on cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images MATERIAL & METHODS: Two interconnected networks for manual segmentation of a defined volume of interest and dental implant volume calculation, respectively, were used in parallel. The volume data of dental implant manufacturers were used for reference.

: Traditional methods for palatal expansion using fixed appliances often face limitations in comfort and aesthetics. In comparison, aligner therapy has limitations, particularly regarding maxillary expansion. The aim of this study is to examine the biomechanical properties regarding the wire diameter and bending of different stainless steel wires to evaluate their potential for incorporation into maxillary aligner therapy.

In dental imaging, Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) is a widely used imaging modality for diagnosis and treatment planning. Small dental scanning units are the most popular due to their cost-effectiveness. However, these small systems have the limitation of a small field of view (FOV) as the source and detector move at a limited angle in a circular path.

Introduction: Digital panoramic radiographs (DPRs) are used in dental practice as the first diagnostic tool for the initial detection of head and neck regions soft-tissue calcifications. The aim of this study was to use a self-developed application (App) to evaluate the ability of dental students at different levels of training to examine known DPRs with different soft-tissue calcification.
Methods: A total of known 100 DPRs with (=50) and without (=50) calcification were independently evaluated by four groups: preclinical, first clinical and last clinical dental students, and dentists with less than or equal to 1 year of professional experience in the same time (15 min) and examination conditions.

The pedicled buccal fat flap (PBFF) is a versatile and robust regional flap used for a variety of maxillofacial reconstructions. However, recent literature has questioned the popularity of this flap. The goal of this single-instruction, retrospective study is to review the outcomes and complications of the PBFF.

Osteoporosis, a systemic skeletal disorder, is expected to affect 60% of women over 50. While dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scans are the current gold standard for diagnosis, they are typically used only after fractures occur, highlighting the need for early detection tools. Initial studies have shown panoramic radiographs (PRs) to be a potential medium, but these have methodological flaws.

Introduction: Osteoporosis (OP) is a bone disease linked to low bone mass and heightened fracture risk. Apical periodontitis (AP) is an inflammation of the apical periodontium, visible on radiographs, often associated with infection or necrosis of the root canal system. Both conditions, AP and OP, share inflammation and ageing as common factors, warranting exploration of their potential interactions.

Introduction: Orthodontic purposes, such as the prevention of anterior crowding, are common and controversial indications for surgical removal of the third molar (M3) germ in young patients. A higher tooth bud position and the risk of tooth displacement in the infratemporal fossa when surgery of the maxillary M3 germ is planned makes the success of germectomy unlikely with little benefit. A rare complication of maxillary M3 germ surgery is partial tooth building after germectomy.

Introduction And Importance: Oligodontia is a rare genetic condition characterized by more than six congenitally missing teeth, either as an isolated non-syndromic condition or in association with other genetic syndromes. The impact of variants on dental development increases with the presence of the c.321C>A variant and the number of missing teeth.

Introduction And Importance: Extraction of mandibular third molars can lead to complications such as chronic sclerosing osteomyelitis (CSO), an inflammatory bone marrow disease that tends to progress. CSO involves the cortical plates and often the periosteal tissues and is caused by a variety of microorganisms, including spp. The treatment of chronic osteomyelitis (CO) and CSO remains challenging, as there is no universal treatment protocol.

Introduction: Extensive comminuted fractures are associated with tooth loss that ultimately leads to dimensional changes in the hard and soft tissues of the alveolar ridge. Reconstruction of the lost mandibular anterior ridge is very complex due to the natural curvature of the region. .

Introduction And Importance: Maxillary sinus floor augmentation is acceptable and safe for bone augmentation prior to insertion of dental implants in atrophied maxillary bones. Anatomical variations and lesions of the maxillary sinus, including antral pseudocysts, are common radiological findings that can affect the outcomes of maxillary sinus augmentation. We show the changes in the radiological features of an antral pseudocyst that existed before maxillary sinus augmentation and 15 years after the insertion of dental implants.

Autologous tooth transplantation is the transplantation of an erupted, partially erupted, or unerupted tooth from one site to another in an individual. This is expected to maintain alveolar bone volume through physiological stimulation of the periodontal ligament (PDL). Tooth transplantation can be used for the closure of oroantral communication.

Introduction And Importance: Florid cemento-osseous dysplasia (FCOD) is a multifocal fibro-osseous tumour originating from the periodontal ligament that presents as being rare, benign and slow-growing. The lesion is characterised by the replacement of regular bone-structure with fibrous tissue and dysplastic bone. Depending on localisation, the initial characteristics of FCOD resemble those of periapical lesions of inflammatory origin.

Background: In terms of a highly atrophic maxilla, bone augmentation still remains very challenging. With the introduction of computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) for allogeneic bone blocks, a new method for the treatment of bone deficiencies was created. This case report demonstrates the successful use of two specially designed and CAD/CAM manufactured allogeneic bone blocks for a full arch reconstruction of a highly atrophic maxilla with an all-on-six concept.

Orthognathic surgery has been used to enhance the function of the maxillomandibular complex with numerous positive effects on facial esthetics, as it can profoundly alter the skeletal architecture of the face. Numerous adjunctive surgical techniques are used to enhance the overall cosmetic results of orthognathic surgery to include the following: genioplasty, midface augmentation, rhinoplasty, fillers, and liposuction. Mandibular advancement, submental liposuction and genioplasty are all techniques that help to define the neck throat point (NTP), minimize submental sagging, and enhance throat length (TL) in order to establish a more harmonious facial profile.

Objectives: Persistent postural-perceptual dizziness (PPPD) is a chronic functional vestibular disorder that may have normal physical examination, clinical laboratory testing and vestibular evaluation. However, advances in neuroimaging have provided new insights in brain functional connectivity and structure in patients with PPPD. This systematic review was aimed at identifying significant structural or alterations in functional connectivity in patients with PPPD.

Background: Adverse drug/device reactions (ADRs) can result in severe patient harm. We define very serious ADRs as being associated with severe toxicity, as measured on the Common Toxicity Criteria Adverse Events (CTCAE)) scale, following use of drugs or devices with large sales, large financial settlements, and large numbers of injured persons. We report on impacts on patients, clinicians, and manufacturers following very serious ADR reporting.
