Purpose: Current guidelines for Lynch syndrome detection in endometrial cancer (EC) patients rely either on risk evaluation, based on personal/family history, or detection of mismatch repair (MMR) deficiency on tumor tissue. We present a combined screening algorithm for Lynch syndrome.
Methods: In this study, 213 consecutive patients treated for EC at Kliniken Essen-Mitte between 2014 and 2018 were included.

Objective: To assess metabolic dysfunctions and steatohepatosis after standard and local pancreatic resections for benign and premalignant neoplasms.
Summary Of Background Data: Duodenopancreatectomy, hemipancreatectomy, and parenchyma-sparing, limited pancreatic resections are currently in use for nonmalignant tumors.
Methods: Medline, Embase, and Cochrane libraries were searched for studies reporting measured data of metabolic functions following PD, pancreatic left resection (PLR), duodenum-sparing pancreatic head resection (DPPHR), pancreatic middle segment resection (PMSR), and tumor enucleation (TEN).

Programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) immunohistochemistry (IHC) is accepted as a predictive biomarker for the selection of immune checkpoint inhibitors. We evaluated the staining quality and estimation of the tumor proportion score (TPS) in non-small-cell lung cancer during two external quality assessment (EQA) schemes by the European Society of Pathology. Participants received two tissue micro-arrays with three (2017) and four (2018) cases for PD-L1 IHC and a positive tonsil control, for staining by their routine protocol.

Background: Accumulating evidence suggests a relationship between endometrial cancer and ovarian cancer. Independent genome-wide association studies (GWAS) for endometrial cancer and ovarian cancer have identified 16 and 27 risk regions, respectively, four of which overlap between the two cancers. We aimed to identify joint endometrial and ovarian cancer risk loci by performing a meta-analysis of GWAS summary statistics from these two cancers.

Purpose: Endometrioid ovarian carcinoma (ENOC) is generally associated with a more favorable prognosis compared with other ovarian carcinomas. Nonetheless, current patient treatment continues to follow a "one-size-fits-all" approach. Even though tumor staging offers stratification, personalized treatments remain elusive.

Background: Metabolic dysfunctions after pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) need to be considered when pancreatic head resection is likely to lead to long-term survival.
Methods: Medline, Embase and Cochrane Library were searched for studies reporting measured data of metabolic function after PD and duodenum-sparing total pancreatic head resection (DPPHR). Data from 23 cohort studies comprising 1019 patients were eligible; 594 and 910 patients were involved in systematic review and meta-analysis, respectively.

Extrathyroidal extension (ETE) by papillary and follicular thyroid carcinoma can be associated with increased risk of tumor recurrence and mortality. In the seventh edition of its Cancer Staging Manual, the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) defined minimal ETE as the involvement of skeletal muscle (i.e.

Background: Parenchyma-sparing, local pancreatic head resection, but not pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) preserves tissue and maintains the pancreatic metabolic functions.
Methods: PubMed/Medline, Embase, and Cochrane library collections were systematically searched. Twenty-six cohort studies with 523 cumulative patients, who underwent duodenum-sparing pancreatic head resection (DPPHR), were retrieved.

Because interpretation of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data remains challenging, optimization of the NGS process is needed to obtain correct sequencing results. Therefore, extensive validation and continuous monitoring of the quality is essential. NGS performance was compared with traditional detection methods and technical quality of nine NGS technologies was assessed.

Biomarker analysis has become routine practice in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). To ensure high quality testing, participation to external quality assessment (EQA) schemes is essential. This article provides a longitudinal overview of the EQA performance for , , and analyses in NSCLC between 2012 and 2015.

Background: Discharge planning is an important component of hospital care. The Blaylock Risk Assessment Screening Score (BRASS) index is an instrument used to identify patients requiring complex discharge planning.
Objectives: (1) Evaluate the ability of the original BRASS index to predict the risk of complex discharge and hospital mortality.

Background And Purpose: In clinical applications of Positron Emission Tomography (PET)-based treatment verification in ion beam therapy (PT-PET), detection and interpretation of inconsistencies between Measured PET and Expected PET are mostly limited by Measured PET noise, due to low count statistics, and by Expected PET bias, especially due to inaccurate washout modelling in off-line implementations. In this work, a recently proposed 4D Maximum Likelihood (ML) reconstruction algorithm which considers Measured PET and Expected PET as two different motion phases of a 4D dataset is assessed on clinical 4D PET-CT datasets acquired after carbon ion therapy.
Material And Methods: The 4D ML reconstruction algorithm estimates: (1) Measured PET of enhanced image quality with respect to the conventional Measured PET, thanks to the exploitation of Expected PET; (2) the deformation field mapping the Expected PET onto the Measured PET as a measure of the occurred displacements.

A novel strategy for 4D PET optimization in the sinogram domain is proposed, aiming at motion model application before image reconstruction ("sinogram warping" strategy). Compared to state-of-the-art 4D-MLEM reconstruction, the proposed strategy is able to optimize the image SNR, avoiding iterative direct and inverse warping procedures, which are typical of the 4D-MLEM algorithm. A full-count statistics sinogram of the motion-compensated 4D PET reference phase is generated by warping the sinograms corresponding to the different PET phases.

During the course of our consultation activity, we have recognized a peculiar form of thyroiditis in which multiple foci of fibrosis, most of which were associated with reactive atypia of the surrounding follicles, are present. We have referred to this condition, both in our consultation reports and in the third series of A.F.

Mounting evidence supports the role of p53 in metabolic processes involved in breast carcinogenesis. We investigated whether p53 status affects the association of pre-treatment fasting glucose with treatment outcomes in 106 non diabetic, HER2 positive breast cancer patients treated with trastuzumab. p53 status was validated against gene sequencing of selected codons in 49 patients.
