Efficacy of Intermittent Theta-Burst Stimulation and Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation in Treatment of Post-Stroke Cognitive Impairment.

J Integr Neurosci

July 2022

Integrated Medicine Research Center for Neurological Rehabilitation, College of Medicine, Jiaxing University, 314001 Jiaxing, Zhejiang, China.

Background: The efficacy of intermittent theta-burst stimulation (iTBS) and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) combined with cognitive training in the treatment of post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI) requires further investigation.

Methods: We randomly assigned 60 patients with PSCI to receive iTBS ( = 21), tDCS ( = 19), or cognitive training alone ( = 20). Cognitive function was evaluated by the Loewenstein Occupational Therapy Cognitive Assessment (LOTCA), and the performance of activities of daily living (ADL) was assessed with the modified Barthel Index (MBI).

Introduction: Advanced Parkinson's disease is characterized by motor and non-motor fluctuations to oral dopamine replacement therapy. The BALANCE study evaluated the clinical practice in Germany and Switzerland, when patients eligible for levodopa/carbidopa intestinal gel (LCIG) therapy decided to either switch to LCIG or to stay on optimized standard of care (SoC) oral therapy as a non-randomized regular clinical decision.

Methods: In this non-interventional, multicenter, prospective observational study, patients were recruited between 2015 and 2020.

Abnormalities in brain glucose metabolism and accumulation of abnormal protein deposits called plaques and tangles are neuropathological hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease (AD), but their relationship to disease pathogenesis and to each other remains unclear. Here we show that succinylation, a metabolism-associated post-translational protein modification (PTM), provides a potential link between abnormal metabolism and AD pathology. We quantified the lysine succinylomes and proteomes from brains of individuals with AD, and healthy controls.

100 years ago, Liepmann highlighted the role of left ventro-dorsal lesions for impairments in conceptual (rather ventral) and motor (more dorsal) related aspects of apraxia. Many studies thereafter attributed to an extended left fronto-temporo-parietal network. Yet, to date there are only few studies that looked at apraxic performance in the selection and application of familiar versus novel tools.

Pain is a common nonmotor symptom in patients with Parkinson disease (PD) but the correct diagnosis of the respective cause remains difficult because suitable tools are lacking, so far. We developed a framework to differentiate PD- from non-PD-related pain and classify PD-related pain into 3 groups based on validated mechanistic pain descriptors (nociceptive, neuropathic, or nociplastic), which encompass all the previously described PD pain types. Severity of PD-related pain syndromes was scored by ratings of intensity, frequency, and interference with daily living activities.
