Pesticides are crucial in modern agriculture because they reduce pests and boost yield, but they also represent major risks to human health and the environment; therefore, it is important to monitor their presence in food. Reliable and precise detection techniques are possible ways to address this issue. In this work, we utilize atomically thin (two-dimensional) cobalt telluride (CoTe) with a high surface area and charge as a template material to detect mancozeb using spectroscopic and electrochemical techniques.

Mercury is a naturally occurring metal found in various inorganic and organic forms within the environment. Due to its high toxicity, there is global concern regarding human exposure to this element. The combination of high-performance liquid chromatography and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (HPLC-ICP-MS) is commonly used to analyze the different forms of mercury in a sample due to its high sensitivity and ability to selectively detect mercury.

Cancer is recognized as the major cause of death worldwide and the most challenging public health issues. Tumor cells exhibit molecular adaptations and metabolic reprograming to sustain their high proliferative rate and autophagy plays a pivotal role to supply the high demand for metabolic substrates and for recycling cellular components, which has attracted the attention of the researchers. The modulation of the autophagic process sensitizes tumor cells to chemotherapy-induced cell death and reverts drug resistance.

Nitric Oxide Plays a Dual Role in Cardiorenal Syndrome in Vitro Model.

Cell Physiol Biochem

January 2024

Laboratory of Cardiovascular Immunology, Center for Natural and Human Sciences (CCNH), Federal University of ABC (UFABC), Santo André, SP, Brazil.

Background/aims: Nitric oxide (NO) plays a dual role, acting as both an oxidant and a reducer, with various effects depending on its concentration and environment. Acute kidney injury's (AKI) pathogenesis observed in cardiorenal syndrome 3 (CRS 3) involves inflammatory responses and the production of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species. However, the role of NO on the development of CRS 3 is still not completely understood.

Melanoma is a serious and aggressive type of skin cancer with growing incidence, and it is the leading cause of death among those affected by this disease. Although surgical resection has been employed as a first-line treatment for the early stages of the tumor, noninvasive topical treatments might represent an alternative option. However, they can be irritating to the skin and result in undesirable side effects.

The co-therapy of common chemotherapeutics with nitric oxide (NO), an endogenous signaling molecule, is proposed as an alternative to sensitize cancer cells and enhance treatments' efficacy. Herein, we have synthesized cisplatin-releasing zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO/CisPt NPs), which promoted a sustained and pH targeted release, able to release a higher amount of CisPt at tumor microenvironment conditions. This material was combined with a chronic NO treatment, at low concentration, in prostate cancer cells (PC3).

Stability and maintenance of the crystal structure are the main drawbacks of the application of organic-inorganic perovskites in photovoltaic devices. The Δ = 62 K robust shift of the structural phase transition observed here allows us to conduct a comprehensive study at room temperature of the tetragonal cubic phase on MAPbI. The absence of the shift in the cubic transition for all-inorganic CsPbI samples confirms the importance of both orientation and dynamics of the organic cations.
