Background: Childhood-onset asthma (COA) has become a major and growing problem worldwide and imposes a heavy socioeconomic burden on individuals and families; therefore, understanding the influence of early-life experiences such as breastfeeding on COA is of great importance for early prevention.

Objectives: To investigate the impact of breastfeeding on asthma in children under 12 years of age and explore its role at two different stages of age in the UK Biobank cohort.

Methods: A total of 7,157 COA cases and 158,253 controls were obtained, with information regarding breastfeeding, COA, and other important variables available through questionnaires.

Background: Previous studies indicate an association between reduced absolute lymphocyte count (ALC) and cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection after solid organ transplantation and have therefore highlighted the potential of ALC as a simple tool to predict CMV infection in transplant patients. Background And Objective: Hyponatremia and the syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH) are associated with and can be caused by tuberculosis (TB) through meningitis by locally invading the hypothalamus, adrenal, or pituitary glands or possibly through ectopic ADH production. This study assessed the association of TB mortality with hyponatremia and SIADH in a large cohort of a university hospital in Austria.

Methods: This retrospective study enrolled patients with hyponatremia and patients diagnosed with TB from 01/2001-11/2019 to assess the prevalence of TB in hyponatremia and TB morbidity and mortality in patients with and without hyponatremia.

Determination of antibody levels against the nucleocapsid (N) and spike (S) proteins of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) are used to estimate the humoral immune response after SARS-CoV-2 infection or vaccination. Differences in the design and specification of antibody assays challenge the interpretation of test results, and comparative studies are often limited to single time points per patient. We determined the longitudinal kinetics of antibody levels of 145 unvaccinated coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients at four visits over 1 year upon convalescence using 8 commercial SARS-CoV-2 antibody assays (from Abbott, DiaSorin, Roche, Siemens, and Technoclone), as well as a virus neutralization test (VNT).

Hydrogen sulfide (HS) emerged as an essential signaling molecule exerting beneficial effects in various cardiovascular, neurodegenerative, or musculoskeletal diseases with an inflammatory component, such as osteoarthritis. Methods: In this retrospective cross-sectional study, nonexudative eyes with ICG angiographic plaques were analyzed by OCT B-scans for the sensitivity of a double-layer sign, a pigment epithelium detachment, outer retinal atrophy, hyperreflective dots, and subretinal hyperreflective material (SRHM). The ICG angiographic plaque was matched with a macular neovascularization in OCTA en face scans and color-coded B scans.

Background: Calciprotein particles (CPPs), colloidal mineral-protein nanoparticles, have emerged as potential mediators of phosphate toxicity in dialysis patients, with putative links to vascular calcification, endothelial dysfunction and inflammation. We hypothesized that phosphate binder therapy with sucroferric oxyhydroxide (SO) would reduce endogenous CPP levels and attenuate pro-calcific and pro-inflammatory effects of patient serum towards human vascular cells in vitro.

Methods: This secondary analysis of a randomised controlled crossover study compared the effect of 2-week phosphate binder washout with high-dose (2000 mg/day) and low-dose (250 mg/day) SO therapy in 28 haemodialysis patients on serum CPP levels, inflammatory cytokine/chemokine arrays and human aortic smooth muscle cell (HASMC) and coronary artery endothelial cell (HCAEC) bioassays.
