Background: Accurate preoperative risk stratification methods are important for clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) patients to enable personalized treatment. However, there are still no accurate and quantitative prognostic factors. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of T1 mapping in predicting the progression-free survival (PFS) of ccRCC after nephrectomy.

Introduction: Arterial calcification, an independent predictor of cardiovascular events, increases morbidity and mortality in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM), but its mechanisms remain unclear. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) play an important role in intercellular communication. The study investigates the role and potential mechanisms of EVs derived from endothelial cells (ECs) in regulating vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) calcification under high glucose (HG) condition, with a goal of developing effective prevention and treatment strategies for diabetic arterial calcification.

Deep learning algorithms have demonstrated remarkable efficacy in various medical image analysis (MedIA) applications. However, recent research highlights a performance disparity in these algorithms when applied to specific subgroups, such as exhibiting poorer predictive performance in elderly females. Addressing this fairness issue has become a collaborative effort involving AI scientists and clinicians seeking to understand its origins and develop solutions for mitigation within MedIA.

Purpose: DWI is an important contrast for prostate MRI to enable early and accurate detection of cancer. This study introduces a Dixon 3-shot-EPI protocol with structured low-rank reconstruction for navigator-free DWI. The aim is to overcome the limitations of single-shot EPI (ssh-EPI), such as geometric distortions and fat signal interference, while addressing the motion-induced phase variations of multishot EPI and simultaneously allowing water/fat separation.

Endothelial dysfunction featuring insufficient endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) and accompanying nitric oxide (NO) deficiency is implicated in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases. Restoring endothelial NO represents a promising approach to treating cerebrovascular diseases, including stroke. Low-power near-infrared (NIR) light shows diverse beneficial effects, broadly defined as photobiomodulation (PBM).

Despite perinatal damage to the cerebellum being one of the highest risk factors for later being diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), it is not yet clear how the cerebellum might influence the development of cerebral cortex and whether this co-developmental process is distinct between neurotypical and ASD children. Leveraging a large structural brain MRI dataset of neurotypical children and those diagnosed with ASD, we examined whether structural variation in cerebellar tissue across individuals was correlated with neocortical variation during development, including the thalamus as a coupling factor. We found that the thalamus plays a distinct role in moderating cerebro-cerebellar structural coordination in ASD.

It is extremely challenging to classify steady-state visual evoked potentials (SSVEPs) in scenarios characterized by a huge scarcity of calibration data where only one calibration trial is available for each stimulus target. To address this challenge, we introduce a novel approach named OS-SSVEP, which combines a dual domain cross-subject fusion network (CSDuDoFN) with the task-related and task-discriminant component analysis (TRCA and TDCA) based on data augmentation. The CSDuDoFN framework is designed to comprehensively transfer information from source subjects, while TRCA and TDCA are employed to exploit the information from the single available calibration trial of the target subject.

This study used whole-brain mapping to investigate the effect of different welding processes on manganese (Mn) accumulation in the brain. Exposure measurements were performed at the welders' workplaces about 3 weeks before a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examination. The welders were categorized into three main groups based on welding method, and the T1-relaxation rate (R1) was measured using quantitative MRI (qMRI).

Cognitive fatigue (CF) increases accident risk reducing performance, especially during complex tasks such as driving. We evaluated whether transcranial random noise stimulation (tRNS) could mitigate CF and improve driving performance. In a double-blind study, thirty participants performed a virtual reality truck driving task during real ( = 15) or sham ( = 15) tRNS applied bilaterally on the "anti-fatigue network".

Parvalbumin-positive (PV+) basket neurons are fast-spiking, non-adapting inhibitory interneurons whose oscillatory activity is essential for regulating cortical excitation/inhibition balance. Their dysfunction results in cortical hyperexcitability and gamma rhythm disruption, which have recently gained substantial traction as contributing factors as well as potential therapeutic targets for the treatment of Alzheimer's Disease (AD). Recent evidence indicates that PV+ cells are also impaired in Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) and Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB).

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a noninvasive technology that enables real-time imaging of tissue microanatomies. The axial resolution of OCT is intrinsically constrained by the spectral bandwidth of the employed light source while maintaining a fixed center wavelength for a specific application. Physically extending this bandwidth faces strong limitations and requires a substantial cost.

Background: Transcranial temporal interference stimulation (tTIS) is a new, emerging neurostimulation technology that utilizes two or more electric fields at specific frequencies to modulate the oscillations of neurons at a desired spatial location in the brain. The physics of tTIS offers the advantage of modulating deep brain structures in a non-invasive fashion and with minimal stimulation of the overlying cortex outside of a selected target. As such, tTIS can be effectively employed in the context of therapeutics for the psychiatric disease of disrupted brain connectivity, such as major depressive disorder (MDD).

The human tongue exhibits an orchestrated arrangement of internal muscles, working in sequential order to execute tongue movements. Understanding the muscle coordination patterns involved in tongue protrusive motion is crucial for advancing knowledge of tongue structure and function. To achieve this, this work focuses on five muscles known to contribute to protrusive motion.
