Although steatotic liver onset after natural menopause has been reported, evidence on the clinical course and treatment options for steatotic liver after surgical menopause is scarce. A 34-year-old woman with a history of severe obesity presented to our department with liver dysfunction following total hysterectomy and bilateral oophorectomy. Her serum estradiol level was notably low at 22 pg/mL, and a liver biopsy revealed significant fatty degeneration, lobular inflammation, hepatocyte ballooning, and stage F1 fibrosis.

We report the case of a 70-year-old woman with advanced hepatic encephalopathy (HE) secondary to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH)-related cirrhosis who exhibited an excellent response to portosystemic shunt embolization. Four years earlier, she was diagnosed as having MASH-related cirrhosis accompanied by multiple mesenteric vein-inferior vena cava shunts. As her condition progressed, she suffered recurrent HE that was unresponsive to oral medication, prompting the decision to proceed with shunt embolization.

Importance: Standard care for preventing mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of hepatitis B virus (HBV) in highly viremic mothers consists of maternal antiviral prophylaxis beginning at gestational week 28 combined with an HBV vaccine series and HBV immune globulin (HBIG) at birth. However, HBIG is unavailable in some resource-limited areas.

Objective: To determine whether initiating tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) at gestational week 16 combined with HBV vaccinations for infants is noninferior to the standard care of TDF at gestational week 28 combined with HBV vaccinations and HBIG for infants in preventing MTCT in mothers with HBV and high levels of viremia.

Purpose Of Review: Provide a concise update on metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), formerly known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), as well as a practical approach to screening and initial evaluation.

Recent Findings: Nomenclature changes have placed a greater focus on cardiometabolic risk factors in the definition of MASLD. Screening for MASLD is by stepwise noninvasive serum and imaging tests which can identify patients at risk for advanced fibrosis and liver-related complications.

The American Tegumentary Leishmaniasis (ATL) is caused by protozoans of the genus Leishmania and varies from mild localized cutaneous leishmaniasis (LCL) form to more severe manifestations such as the diffuse cutaneous leishmaniasis (DCL) form and the mucosal leishmaniasis (ML) form. Previously, we demonstrated the accumulation of senescent cells in skin lesions of patients with LCL. Moreover, lesional transcriptomic analyses revealed a robust co-induction of senescence and pro-inflammatory gene signatures, highlighting the critical role of senescent T cells in orchestrating pathology.
