In this article, we propose a model of doctor-patient encounter that integrates the concept of therapeutic presence (TP), derived from psychotherapy research, as an indispensable substrate for the benefit of the therapeutic alliance between patient and doctor. To this end, the concepts of the doctor-patient relationship and doctor-patient communication are revisited to explore their therapeutic dimensions. The concept of TP is defined, and existing literature about the relationship between that concept, the therapeutic alliance, and mindfulness is reviewed, alongside an examination of related concepts that have developed within nursing and medicine.

Gastroprotective Activity of (Meyen), Cabrera from the Atacama Desert.

Forty-three metabolites including several methoxylated flavonoids, tremetones, and -clerodane diterpenes were accurately identified for the first time in the ethanolic extract of by means of hyphenated UHPLC-quadrupole Orbitrap mass spectrometry, and seven isolated compounds were tested regarding gastroprotective activity using the HCl/EtOH-induced lesion model in mice. A new tremetone (compound ) is reported based on spectroscopic evidence. The isolated clerodanes and tremetones showed gastroprotective activity in a mouse model, evidenced by compound (-coumaroyloxytremetone), which showed the highest gastroprotective activity (76%), which was higher than the control drug lansoprazole (72%).

The seriated extracts of petroleum ether (PE-E), dichloromethane (DCM-E) and methanol extracts (MeOH-E) from the aerial parts of the native South American plant (Rosaceae), were evaluated regarding their antioxidant and antibacterial activities. The antioxidant properties were evaluated by free radical scavenging methods (DPPH and TEAC), ferric-reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and lipoperoxidation in erythrocytes (LP), while the antibacterial activity was performed against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria according to the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) guidelines. The chemical and biological analyses of this plant are very important since this bush is currently used in traditional medicine as a cholagogue and digestive.

GABA-A receptors are hetero-pentameric channels assembled in multiple combinations from 19 available subunits; this diversity mediates phasic and tonic inhibitory synaptic potentials. The generation of new oligodendrocytes is essential for adult brain repair in diseases such as multiple sclerosis. We previously identified the multifunctional p57kip2 protein as a negative regulator of myelinating glial cell differentiation and as an intrinsic switch of glial fate decision in adult neural stem cells (aNSCs). Here, we show that, upon demyelination, CNS-resident pericytes (PCs) proliferate, and parenchymal non-vessel-associated PC-like cells (PLCs) rapidly develop. Cell motility and migration requires the reorganization of the cortical cytoskeleton at the leading edge of cells and extracellular Ca entry is essential for this reorganization. However the molecular nature of the regulators of this pathway is unknown. This work contributes to understanding the role of STIM1 and ORAI1 in the promotion of membrane ruffling by showing that phospho-STIM1 localizes at the leading edge of cells, and that both phospho-STIM1 and ORAI1 co-localize with cortactin (CTTN), a regulator of the cytoskeleton at membrane ruffling areas.

Interleukin-3 Prevents Cellular Death Induced by Oxidative Stress in HEK293 Cells.

Interleukin-3 (IL-3) is a well-characterized growth factor in hematopoietic cells, but it is also expressed in other cell types with poorly described functions. Many studies have provided evidence that IL-3 plays an important role in cell survival. We have previously shown that IL-3 is able to increase glucose uptake in HEK293 cells, suggesting that this factor requires sustained glucose metabolism to promote cell survival.
