Objective: Early education and care (ECEC) is part of the everyday life of most children in developed economies presenting exceptional opportunity to support nutrition and ongoing food preferences. Yet, the degree to which such opportunity is captured in policy-driven assessment and quality ratings of ECEC services is unknown.
Design: Abductive thematic analysis was conducted, guided by key domains of knowledge in nutrition literature and examining identified themes within these domains.

The aim of the current study was to systematically review and quantify the findings of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the effect of fermented soy products on anthropometric indices, body composition, and metabolic outcomes. PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science were searched to identify the relevant articles from inception until March 2024. The weighted mean differences (WMD) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated as effect sizes and analyzed using the random-effects method.

Seizures are complex electrophysiological disturbances affecting one or more populations of brain neurons. Seizures following test article (TA) exposure pose significant challenges in drug development. This paper considers the diverse neurological manifestations, mechanisms, and functional and structural assessments needed to investigate TA-related seizure liabilities, with a particular focus on nonclinical species.

Traditional colitis treatment strategies have issues such as side effects and poor lesion targeting. In this study, a milled black rice particle-stabilized Pickering emulsion (BR-5-DMN) has been developed as a delivery vehicle for 5-demethylnobiletin (5-DMN) to treat colitis. The alleviating effects of three 5-DMN delivery systems: BR-5-DMN, Tween 80 emulsion for upper gastrointestinal delivery, and soybean oil with most 5-DMN entering the colon were compared.

Background: Antimicrobial resistance poses a significant threat to global health, with its spread intricately linked across human, animal, and environmental sectors. Revealing the antimicrobial resistance gene (ARG) flow among the One Health sectors is essential for better control of antimicrobial resistance.
Results: In this study, we investigated regional ARG transmission among humans, food, and the environment in Dengfeng, Henan Province, China by combining large-scale metagenomic sequencing with culturing of resistant bacterial isolates in 592 samples.

Micromycetes from the genus Alternaria are commonly found in plant food raw materials, and their produced emerging mycotoxins (EMT) pose a risk to human health. Based on polyphase taxonomy, we studied the species composition of the Alternaria spp. population in samples of Russian grain and berries; non-toxinogenic species of Alternaria of the Infectoriae section and toxinogenic species of the Alternaria section were found.

Introduction: Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is the classical hepatobiliary manifestation of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The strong association between gut and liver inflammation has driven several pathogenic hypotheses to which the intestinal microbiome is proposed to contribute. Pilot studies of faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) in PSC and IBD are demonstrated to be safe and associated with increased gut bacterial diversity.

Foodborne pathogens have always been of public health concern and represent safety issues for food processors. These pathogens develop new ways to overcome antibiotics, survive in different environmental conditions, and the ability to reproduce in many hostile environments configure them as serious health hazards. Considering the huge number of microorganisms, three bacterial representatives were selected to provide a better knowledge about the question of which one is the worst enemy for humans, from the food industry point of view, taking into consideration their multiplication specificity, virulence, and resistance.

Intravenous pumps (IVPs) deliver IV medications to millions of acute care patients each year and result in many adverse events reported to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Although the use of IVPs has improved overall safety, there are still high rates of error that risk the safety of all patients, especially those of advanced age and those suffering from critical illness. Most of the documented errors are based on clinician reports, although there is reason to believe that errors due to flow rate inaccuracy go undetected and unreported.

Background: Despite advances in trauma care, the effects of social determinants of health continue to be a barrier to optimal health outcomes. Health-related social needs (HRSNs), now the basis of a Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services national screening program, may contribute to poor health outcomes, inequities, and low-value care, but the impact of HRSNs among injured patients remains poorly understood at the national level.
Methods: Using data from the nationally representative 2021 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey, injured patients were matched with uninjured controls via coarsened exact matching on age and sex.

Ferroptosis, an iron-dependent form of regulated cell death, has recently emerged as a crucial process in the pathogenesis of , the causal agent of the devastating rice blast disease, which causes billions of dollars in annual losses. This mini review explores the potential of antioxidants in suppressing ferroptosis in to promote sustainable rice production, with significant implications for global food security and nutrition. We critically analyze the current literature on the mechanisms of ferroptosis in , including iron metabolism and lipid peroxidation, the role of different antioxidants in inhibiting this cell death pathway, and the potential applications of antioxidant-based strategies for the management of rice blast disease.

Unlabelled: Mixed-mode sorbents exhibit two or more primary retention mechanisms, which can enhance the selectivity and capacity of the extraction process in a single step. In this study, a facile approach was proposed to prepare functionalized metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) by post-synthetic oxidation. The composites could be varied independently for each processing step, resulting in four frameworks to meet different sample pretreatment requirements.
