Newborn congenital hypothyroidism (CH) screening has been widely used worldwide. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of applying biochemical and gene panel sequencing as screening tests for CH and to analyze the mutation spectrum of CH in China. Newborns were prospectively recruited from eight hospitals in China between February and December 2021.

Background: The FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data principles are a guideline to improve the reusability of data. However, properly implementing these principles is challenging due to a wide range of barriers.

Objectives: To further the field of FAIR data, this study aimed to systematically identify barriers regarding implementing the FAIR principles in the area of child and adolescent mental health research, define the most challenging barriers, and provide recommendations for these barriers.

A feasibility study on the virtual adaptation of Child Adult Relationship Enhancement in Primary Care.

Childhood behavioral problems are common; despite evidence that parenting interventions improve outcomes, the use of these programs is limited. Virtual delivery may ameliorate attendance barriers, but little is known on the acceptability and feasibility of virtual group parenting interventions. This mixed-methods study explored the feasibility, acceptability, and appropriateness of the virtual delivery of a parenting intervention, Child Adult Relationship Enhancement in Primary Care (PriCARE) among 18 caregivers and 8 facilitators.

PEDOT: PSS-Modified Organic Flexible and Implantable Microelectrode for Internal Bi-Directional Electrophysiology of Three-Dimensional Cardiomyocyte Spheroid.

Three-dimensional (3D) cardiomyocyte spheroids are essential models to replicate cardiac structural and functional features in vitro. However, conventional planar and rigid microelectrode arrays (MEAs) suffer from low-quality electrophysiological recording of 3D cultures, due to limited contact areas and weak coupling between cells and MEA chips. Herein, we developed a PEDOT: PSS-modified organic flexible and implantable MEA (OFI-MEA) coupled with a self-developed integrated biosensing platform to achieve high-throughput, long-term, and stable bidirectional internal electrophysiology in 3D cardiomyocyte spheroids.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed cases of neuroblastoma without metastasis treated at our hospital between March 2002 and December 2023. Cases in which surgical resection was performed were divided into three groups according to imaging findings at the time of diagnosis and before surgery: Group E (tumor encasing renal pedicles), Group C (tumor in contact with renal pedicles), and Group S (tumor separated from renal pedicles).

Heart and neural crest derivatives-expressed protein 1 (HAND1) and Heart and neural crest derivatives-expressed protein 2 (HAND2), members of the Twist-family of basic Helix-Loop-Helix (bHLH) proteins, act as critical transcription factors that play a key role in various developmental processes, including placental development and fetal growth during pregnancy. This review aims to explore the current understanding of HAND1 and HAND2 in pregnant maintenance and their potential implications for maternal and fetal health. We will summarize the mechanisms of action of HAND1 and HAND2 in pregnancy, their expression regulation and association with pregnancy complications such as preterm birth and preeclampsia.

Methods: From June 2018, the RELIANCE registry enrolled paediatric (aged ≥ 2 years) and adult patients (aged ≥ 18 years) with MKD/HIDS who were receiving canakinumab as part of their routine medical care. Safety, physician- and patient-reported measures of disease activity and dosing patterns were evaluated at baseline and every 6 months until end-of-study visit.

Background: Normal weight obesity (NWO) is characterized by excess body fat in individuals with normal body mass index (BMI). This study aimed to investigate gut microbiota alterations in NWO and their potential associations with cardiometabolic diseases (CMD) risk in two independent cohorts.

Methods: Our NWO-CMD mortality analysis included 168 099 adults with normal BMI from two large open-access databases, while our NWO-gut microbiota study involved 5467 adults with normal BMI from two independent cohorts: the WELL-China cohort and the Lanxi cohort.

Wilms tumor (WT) is the most common kidney cancer in infants and young children. The determination of the clonality of bilateral WTs is critical to the treatment, because lineage-independent and metastatic tumors may require different treatment strategies. Here we found synchronous bilateral WT (n = 24 tumors from 12 patients) responded differently to preoperative chemotherapy.

Efficacy of propofol and midazolam combination in managing refractory epileptic encephalopathy with spike-wave activation in sleep.

We presented a 7-year-old boy with refractory Epileptic Encephalopathy with Spike-and-Wave Activation in Sleep (EE-SWAS) successfully managed with a combination of propofol and midazolam. His seizures began at age 2, initially controlled by multiple antiseizure medications (ASMs) for almost three years. At age 5, seizures recurred with electroencephalography (EEG) showing electrical status epilepticus in sleep (ESES) and a spike-wave index (SWI) of 85 %.

Case Report: A review of two children with deep sternal wound infections after precordial surgery treated with a simple negative pressure closed drainage technique.

Deep sternal wound infection (DSWI) is a rare but potentially devastating complication of median sternotomy performed in cardiac surgery. This report summarizes the nursing management of two pediatric cases with a DSWI treated using Do It Yourself (DIY) negative pressure suction (DIY-NPS) after surgery. The technique maintains a continuous suction pressure of 75 mmHg and intermittently flushes small volumes of fluid to stimulate granulation tissue formation and control systemic infection.

ZnO-Nafion assisted optical fiber dual-SPR biosensor for simultaneous detection of urea and uric acid concentrations.

A novel dual-parameter optical fiber biosensor based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) for simultaneous measurement of urea and uric acid concentrations is proposed in this paper. Based on the principle of positive and negative electric combination, ZnO nanoparticles is selected as the matrix for immobilizing urease and uricase with selective recognition ability, which can also be used as a sensitizing material to increase the refractive index detection sensitivity of SPR by 22%. Then, Nafion ion exchange membrane was introduced to wrap the urea sensing area to avoid crosstalk caused by the overlap of adjacent sensing areas.

Background: The impact of pre-infection vaccination on the risk of long COVID remains unclear in the pediatric population. We aim to assess the effectiveness of BNT162b2 on long COVID risks with various strains of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in children and adolescents, using comparative effectiveness methods. We further explore if such pre-infection vaccination can mitigate the risk of long COVID beyond its established protective benefits against SARS-CoV-2 infection using causal mediation analysis.

Effective Bone Tissue Fabrication Using 3D-Printed Citrate-Based Nanocomposite Scaffolds Laden with BMP9-Stimulated Human Urine Stem Cells.

Effective repair of large bone defects through bone tissue engineering (BTE) remains an unmet clinical challenge. Successful BTE requires optimal and synergistic interactions among biocompatible scaffolds, osteogenic factors, and osteoprogenitors to form a highly vascularized microenvironment for bone regeneration and osseointegration. We sought to develop a highly effective BTE system by using 3D printed citrate-based mPOC/hydroxyapatite (HA) composites laden with BMP9-stimulated human urine stem cells (USCs).

Longitudinal Efficacy of Nusinersen Treatment on Health-Related Quality of Life and Independence in Children With Later-Onset Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

Introduction/aims: The rising use of disease-modifying therapy is progressively impacting the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of patients with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) in their daily lives. This study aimed to evaluate the changes in HRQoL and independence in children with later-onset SMA receiving longitudinal treatment with nusinersen.

Eyelid tumors pose diagnostic challenges due to their diverse pathological types and limited biopsy materials. This study aimed to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) diagnostic system for accurate classification of eyelid tumors. Utilizing mass spectrometry-based proteomics, we analyzed proteomic data from eight tissue types and identified eighteen novel biomarkers based on 233 formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) samples from 150 patients.

Hemorrhage risk after coblation tonsillectomy in Chinese pediatric: a multicenter, prospective, observational cohort study.

Objectives: The study aimed to assess the incidence of post-coblation tonsillectomy hemorrhage (PCTH) and identify associated risk factors in a pediatric Chinese population.
