Background: Pain is a prevalent, frequent, and often persistent symptom among children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Despite its high prevalence, pain has remained understudied, and no evidence-based recommendations exist for how best to assess and treat pain in this population. Without proper assessment, clinical efforts to improve pain management in pediatric ALL will be ineffective.

Researchers and clinicians often use the six-item abbreviated Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Checklist-Civilian (PCL-6) for screening; however, the PCL-6 has not been validated for parents of children with cancer. A valid and reliable short screener like the PCL-6 would allow bedside and/or advanced practice nurses to quickly screen parents for traumatic stress and expedite referrals for support services. This study used data collected during a multisite trial examining an intervention for children with cancer and their parents.

Objective: Limb-girdle muscular dystrophy R9 (LGMDR9, formerly known as LGMD2I), caused by variants in the fukutin-related protein (FKRP) gene leads to progressive muscle weakness of the shoulder and pelvic limb-girdles and loss of motor function over time. Clinical management and future trial design are improved by determining which standardized clinical outcome assessments (COA) of function are most appropriate to capture disease presentation and progression, informing endpoint selection and enrollment criteria. The purpose of our study was to evaluate the cross-sectional validity and reliability of clinical outcome assessments in patients with FKRP-related LGMDR9 participating in the Genetic Resolution and Assessments Solving Phenotypes in LGMD (GRASP) natural history study.

Background: Antibiotic durations for uncomplicated skin/soft tissue infections (SSTI) often exceed the guideline-recommended 5-7 days. We assessed the effectiveness of a default duration order panel in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) to reduce long prescriptions.
Methods: Cluster randomized trial of a SSTI order panel with default antibiotic durations (implemented 12/2021), compared to a control panel (no decision support) in 14 pediatric primary care clinics.

Objectives: Although pediatric cancer often causes significant stress for families, most childhood cancer survivors are resilient and do not exhibit severe or lasting psychopathology. Research demonstrates some survivors may report benefit-finding or positive outcomes following this stressful life event. However, considerably less research has included families of children who are unlikely to survive their illness.

Previous research has identified regions of the brain that are sensitive to emotional intensity in faces, with some evidence for developmental differences in this pattern of response. However, comparable understanding of how the brain tracks linear variations in emotional prosody is limited-especially in youth samples. The current study used novel stimuli (morphing emotional prosody from neutral to anger/happiness in linear increments) to investigate whether neural response to vocal emotion was parametrically modulated by emotional intensity and whether there were age-related changes in this effect.
