Introduction: Alzheimer's disease (AD), primary age-related tauopathy (PART), and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) all feature hyperphosphorylated tau (p-tau)-immunoreactive neurofibrillary degeneration, but differ in neuroanatomical distribution and progression of neurofibrillary degeneration and amyloid beta (Aβ) deposition.
Methods: We used Nanostring GeoMx Digital Spatial Profiling to compare the expression of 70 proteins in neurofibrillary tangle (NFT)-bearing and non-NFT-bearing neurons in hippocampal CA1, CA2, and CA4 subregions and entorhinal cortex of cases with autopsy-confirmed AD (n = 8), PART (n = 7), and CTE (n = 5).
Results: There were numerous subregion-specific differences related to Aβ processing, autophagy/proteostasis, inflammation, gliosis, oxidative stress, neuronal/synaptic integrity, and p-tau epitopes among these different disorders.

The frustrated honeycomb spin model can stabilize a subextensively degenerate spiral spin liquid with nontrivial topological excitations and defects, but its material realization remains rare. Here, we report the experimental realization of this model in the structurally disorder-free compound GdZnPO. Using a single-crystal sample, we find that spin-7/2 rare-earth Gd^{3+} ions form a honeycomb lattice with dominant second-nearest-neighbor antiferromagnetic and first-nearest-neighbor ferromagnetic couplings, along with easy-plane single-site anisotropy.

The Mott-Ioffe-Regel limit sets the lower bound of the carrier mean free path for coherent quasiparticle transport. Metallicity beyond this limit is of great interest because it is often closely related to quantum criticality and unconventional superconductivity. Progress along this direction mainly focuses on the strange-metal behaviors originating from the evolution of the quasiparticle scattering rate, such as linear-in-temperature resistivity, while the quasiparticle coherence phenomena in this regime are much less explored due to the short mean free path at the diffusive bound.

Some years ago, it was conjectured by the first author that the Chern-Simons perturbation theory of a 3-manifold at the trivial flat connection is a resurgent power series. We describe completely the resurgent structure of the above series (including the location of the singularities and their Stokes constants) in the case of a hyperbolic knot complement in terms of an extended square matrix (, )-series whose rows are indexed by the boundary parabolic -flat connections, including the trivial one. We use our extended matrix to describe the Stokes constants of the above series, to define explicitly their Borel transform and to identify it with state-integrals.

The pathogenesis of necrotic enteritis (NE) involves complex gene regulation at both the bacterial cell and host tissue levels, yet many aspects remain incompletely understood. This study aims to compare the differential transcriptome of the netB-positive Clostridium perfringens strain, CP54, before and after infection. Differentially expressed genes and pathways were also examined in jejunal tissues from CP54-induced and CP54-Eimeria coinfected NE models to identify potential targets for mitigating NE.

Research in the last few decades has brought us closer to an understanding of the brain circuit abnormalities that underlie parkinsonian motor signs. This article summarizes the current knowledge in this rapidly emerging field. Traditional observations of activity changes of basal ganglia neurons that accompany akinesia and bradykinesia have been supplemented with new knowledge regarding specific pathophysiologic changes that are associated with other parkinsonian signs, such as tremor and gait impairments.

Physical vapor deposition (PVD) at an appropriate temperature has been shown to produce ultrastable glass by the mechanism of surface accelerated diffusion. Recently, high-entropy materials have been discovered to display slower atomic diffusion due to the multicomponent high-entropy effects. How this delayed atomic motion influences the formation and stability of PVD glass remains elusive.

Purpose: Oral adjuvant endocrine therapy (AET) reduces the risk of cancer recurrence and death for women with hormone receptor-positive (HR+) breast cancer. Because of adverse symptoms and socioecologic barriers, AET adherence rates are low. We conducted post hoc analyses of a randomized trial of a remote symptom and adherence monitoring app to evaluate characteristics associated with higher app use, satisfaction, and how app use was associated with AET adherence.

In the past decade, our understanding of heart failure pathophysiology has advanced significantly, resulting in the development of new medications such as angiotensin-neprilysin inhibitors, sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors and oral soluble guanylate cyclase stimulators. Backed by positive findings from large randomized controlled trials, recommendations for their use were recently included in the 2022 AHA/ACC/HFSA guidelines and 2023 ESC guidelines for management of heart failure. Promising drugs for future heart failure treatment include agents that modulate the neurohormonal system, vasodilators, anti-inflammatory drugs, mitotropes, which improve deranged energy metabolism of the failing heart, and myotropes, which increase cardiac contractility by affecting cardiac sarcomere function.

Germinal center (GC) formation, which is an integrant part of humoral immunity, involves energy-consuming metabolic reprogramming. Rag-GTPases are known to signal amino acid availability to cellular pathways that regulate nutrient distribution such as the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1) pathway and the transcription factors TFEB and TFE3. However, the contribution of these factors to humoral immunity remains undefined.

CD74 is a cell-surface receptor for the cytokine macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF). MIF binding to CD74 induces a signaling cascade resulting in the release of its cytosolic intracellular domain (CD74-ICD), which regulates transcription in naïve B and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) cells. In the current study, we investigated the role of CD74 in the regulation of the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME) in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC).

Lands devoted to military use are globally important for the production of ecosystem services and for the conservation of biodiversity. The United States has one of the largest military land estates in the world, and most of these areas occur in water-limited landscapes. Despite many of these areas receiving intense or sustained disturbance from military training activities, the structure and function of ecosystems contained within their boundaries continue to provide critical benefits to people across spatial scales.

Background: Surveillance bronchoscopies with bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) and transbronchial biopsies (TBB) are primarily used to detect acute cellular rejection (ACR) or infection in lung transplant (LTx) recipients. We previously identified a BAL protein signature associated with chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD) or death/retransplant in patients with stable minimal (grade A1) ACR. This present study aimed to determine whether similar BAL biomarkers predict outcomes in stable patients when ACR grade is undetermined.

Two-dimensional graphene has emerged as a promising competitor to silicon in the post-Moore era due to its superior electrical, optical, and thermal properties. However, graphene undergoes a strong degradation in its in-plane thermal conductivity when it is coupled to an amorphous substrate. Meanwhile, the weak van der Waals interaction between graphene and the dielectric substrate leads to high interfacial thermal resistance.
