The treatment of pets, service animals, and pre-clinical research subjects with radionuclides raises concern for the safety of the people who interact with the animals after their treatment. Three treatments of skeletal conditions in dogs are considered in this study: Sm-1,4,7,10-tetraazacylcododecanetetramethylenephosphonic acid, which is a bone-seeking radiopharmaceutical; unencapsulated Y permanent interstitial implants, which are sometimes called "liquid brachytherapy"; and Sn radiosynoviorthesis, which is also called radiosynovectomy. External exposure rate readings of the Sm and Sn treatments, and Monte Carlo simulations of Sn at a distance of 1 m and of all three in direct contact with tissue were analyzed for doses.

Alignment of Perceived Competencies and Perceived Job Tasks among Primary Care Managers.

Healthcare (Basel)

December 2019

Center-School of Public Health and Health Management, Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade, 11000 Belgrade, Serbia.

In this study we aimed to explore how managers in primary health care (PHC) organizations assess their managerial knowledge and skills, as well as the importance of these competencies for their job, and to identify whether there is an alignment between these two perceptions; therefore, whether there is a need for management competency improvement. With this study, we tried to address a high demand for information about health managers, especially in health systems in low- and middle-income countries. In a sample of 58 primary health care centers ( = 106 managers) in Serbia, we used a basic managerial competency matrix consisting of the following six competencies-communication, team-building, planning and priority-setting, performance assessment, problem-solving, and leading.

Powerful and ongoing changes in how people work, the workforce, and the workplace require a more holistic view of each of these. We argue that an expanded focus for occupational safety and health (OSH) is necessary to prepare for and respond rapidly to future changes in the world of work that will certainly challenge traditional OSH systems. The WHO Model for Action, various European efforts at well-being, and the Total Worker Health concept provide a foundation for addressing changes in the world of work.

Austin Public Health, 15 Waller Street, Austin, TX 78701, United States of America. Electronic address:

Despite the numerous social and economic benefits of vaccination, adult immunization rates fall far short of recommended levels costing the United States $9 billion annually in health care expenditures and reduced productivity. While it is well recognized that childhood immunization is highly cost-effective, the economic impact of adult immunization programs varies by disease and is influenced by population demographics. This study aimed to assess the cost-effectiveness of a comprehensive adult immunization program serving high-need populations delivered by a local health department (LHD) in partnership with community organizations.

Article Synopsis
  • Women of African ancestry experience lower rates of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) but poorer survival outcomes compared to women of European ancestry, prompting research into genetic factors.
  • A genome-wide association study identified ten loci potentially related to EOC and high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC) in African ancestry women, with some variants linked to genes regulating hormones and cancer.
  • The study suggests shared genetic risk factors for EOC between different ancestries and highlights specific genetic variants that may influence ovarian cancer risk and outcomes in African ancestry women.
