The effect of lumbar facet joint injection levels on spinopelvic parameters and functional outcome.

Background: Low back pain is a very common musculoskeletal complaint that impacts patients' quality of life in numerous ways. Facet joint injection is a widely used spinal intervention to relieve back pain. Effects of facet joint injection on spinopelvic parameters and the relationship between injection levels and spinopelvic parameter changes have not been evaluated before.

Factors associated with the development of early- to mid-term cuff-tear arthropathy following arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.

Background: Few studies have specifically evaluated the development of cuff-tear arthropathy (CTA) after a rotator cuff repair in the postoperative early to mid-term. This study aimed to identify the factors associated with the development of CTA, to evaluate the effect of arthropathy on functional outcomes, and to evaluate the incidence of CTA 3-10 years after an arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.

Methods: A total of 312 patients who underwent an arthroscopic repair of a large or massive full-thickness rotator cuff tear with a minimum follow-up of 3 years were retrospectively divided into 2 groups for analysis: those with postrepair CTA (arthritic glenohumeral changes due to rotator cuff insufficiency) and those without.

Reliability of RUST and Modified RUST Scores for the Evaluation of Union in Humeral Shaft Fractures Treated with Different Techniques.

Background: The study aimed to evaluate the agreement between the radiographic union scale (RUST) and modified RUST (mRUST) in humeral shaft fractures treated with different techniques, and the effect of surgeons' experience and thresholds for determining bone union.

Materials And Methods: A total of 20 orthopedic surgeons reviewed and scored radiographs of 30 patients with humeral shaft fractures treated by external fixation, intramedullary nailing, and plating using the RUST and mRUST on the 0 day, 6 weeks, 12 weeks and 24 weeks follow-up radiographs. Bone healing, interrater agreement between RUST and mRUST scores, and the threshold for radiographic union were evaluated.

Lateral and patellofemoral compartment osteoarthritis progression after medial unicompartmental knee arthroplasty: A five- to 10-year follow-up study.

Background: The purpose of the study was to evaluate lateral and patellofemoral osteoarthritis (OA) progression after medial unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) and identify factors affecting the progression that were not identified previously.

Methods: We evaluated 146 patients who underwent medial UKA between 2009 and 2014. Kellgren-Lawrence grading of lateral and patellofemoral OA was performed on preoperative and final follow-up knee radiographs.

Background: To compare selected morphological parameters between normal and osteoarthritic (OA) knees, as well as to evaluate differences in these parameters between Kellgren-Lawrence (K-L) grades of OA.

Methods: Knee joint morphology was evaluated using magnetic resonance (MR) images of 200 participants with knee OA (50 each of K-L grades 1-4) and 50 without knee OA, matched for age, body mass index, sex, and tibiofemoral angle. Knees with a coronal alignment within five degrees of neutral and no apparent bone loss on radiographs were included.

Corneal tattooing for esthetic purposes in patients with corneal opacities.

Purpose: This study evaluated corneal tattooing for esthetic purposes in patients with corneal opacification.

Methods: Eight eyes of eight patients were included in the study (four males and four females). Corneal tattooing was achieved by stromal puncture in five patients, femtosecond laser-assisted corneal tattooing in two patients, and femtosecond laser-assisted corneal tattooing and stromal needling (combined procedure) in one patient.

Objective: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormonal disorder among women of reproductive age characterized by irregular menstruation and hirsutism and is associated with an increased risk for cardiovascular diseases. Increased inflammatory response and oxidative stress may also present in these patients. In this study, we aimed to compare the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), mean platelet volume (MPV), and dynamic thiol-disulphide homeostasis (dTDH) between the patients with PCOS and healthy individuals and to investigate the correlation between these parameters and cardiovascular risk factors in patients with PCOS.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the anatomic risk factors associated with dislocation following bipolar hemiarthroplasty for the treatment of femoral neck fracture.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 208 consecutive patients (133 women, 75 men) with femoral neck fractures who were treated with bipolar hemiarthroplasty between 2015 and 2018. A comparative analysis was performed between dislocation (n = 18) and non-dislocation (n = 190) groups in terms of patient demographics, surgical and pelvic morphologic factors, and clinical outcomes, including postoperative Harris and modified Harris hip scores.

Background: To evaluate and compare the clinical and radiological outcomes of patients subjected to medial unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA).

Methods: The study included 146 knees of 115 consecutive medial UKAs patients with a minimum five-year follow-up. Pre- and postoperative functional and clinical outcomes were measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), Oxford Knee Score (OKS), American Knee Society Score (AKSS-O), knee range of motion (ROM), and Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36).

Fracture Patterns and Comminution Zones in OTA/AO 34C Type Patellar Fractures.

Objectives: To characterize the fracture patterns and comminution zones for complete articular (OTA/AO 34C type) patellar fractures, using a computed tomography mapping technique.

Methods: Eighty-three OTA/AO 34C type patellar fractures were included. Images of patellar fractures were superimposed on a coronal template of the patella, created from a healthy right knee, to identify fracture patterns and comminution zones.

Effectiveness of Using Photographs of the Change in Standing Posture on Postoperative Patient-Reported Satisfaction and Quality of Life.

Dissatisfaction is still an important problem in a small but important group of patients who undergo total knee arthroplasty. This study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of showing patients the change in their standing posture, before and after total knee replacement, using standing photographs (anterior, posterior, and lateral view), on improving self-reported quality of life and satisfaction. Full-length lower extremity radiographs and standing photographs were obtained prior to total knee replacement and 6 months after surgery in the study group.

Aim The aim of this article is to determine whether a combination of noncontrast CT (NCCT), three-dimensional-phase contrast magnetic resonance venography (3D PC-MRV), T1- and T2-weighted MRI sequences can help to identify acute and subacute dural venous sinus thrombosis (DVST) with greater accuracy. Methods A total of 147 patients with DVST ( n = 30) and a control group ( n = 117) underwent NCCT, T1- and T2-weighted MRI sequences, and 3D PC-MRV from 2012 to 2016.
