Implementation of ERAS Protocols: In Theory and Practice.

Turk J Anaesthesiol Reanim

October 2024

Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, Cebeci Hospital, Clinic of Anaesthesiology and Reanimation, Ankara, Turkey.

The enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) pathway is a perioperative care pathway intended to facilitate early recovery and minimize hospital stays among patients undergoing major surgery. Critical factors for successful ERAS implementation, which may vary depending on care processes, include a multidisciplinary team, organizational commitment to change, and a real-time system for compliance and outcome audits. As most clinicians and health organizations can attest, incorporating and implementing new evidence-based practice changes almost always involves overcoming systemic challenges and obstacles.

Aims: Abundant research indicates that ghrelin hormone levels are associated with alcohol use and addiction. One of the mediators of this association may be impulsivity, which is one of the common traits observed in alcohol addiction and some eating disorders. This study evaluated participants with alcohol dependency and healthy volunteers to determine whether trait impulsivity and ghrelin levels are associated.

When a Monoclonal Gammopathy Is Not Multiple Myeloma.

Am Soc Clin Oncol Educ Book

April 2022

Department of Hematology, Cebeci Hospital, Ankara University Dikimevi, Ankara, Turkey.

Our knowledge of monoclonal gammopathies is continuously evolving. Once accepted as a possible precursor condition to multiple myeloma, monoclonal gammopathies as an entity are now associated with many renal, neurologic, and dermatologic disorders of clinical significance. This change has created a challenge for patients and clinicians, as a monoclonal gammopathy may be a harbinger not of multiple myeloma but of other lymphoproliferative disorders such as light-chain amyloidosis and Waldenström macroglobulinemia.

Natural Killer Cell-Mediated Cellular Therapy of Hematological Malignancies.

Clin Hematol Int

September 2019

Department of Hematology, Faculty of Medicine, Ankara University, Cebeci Hospital, 06220, Ankara, Turkey.

Our understanding on the mechanisms of graft tumor/leukemia (GvT/GvL) and graft host (GvH) effects has tremendously evolved within the past decades. During the search for a mechanism that augments GvT/GvL without increasing GvH effects, natural killer (NK) cells have clearly attracted attention. Current approaches of NK cell immunotherapy for hematological malignancies involve using methods for potentiation of NK cell proliferation and activity; adoptive transfer of NK cells from autologous and allogeneic sources [cord blood mononuclear cells, peripheral blood mononuclear cells, CD34 stem cells] and NK cell lines; and genetic modification of NK cells.

A comparative safety review of histone deacetylase inhibitors for the treatment of myeloma.

Expert Opin Drug Saf

July 2019

a Department of Hematology , Ankara University School of Medicine, Cebeci Hospital, Mamak , Turkey.

Introduction: Dysregulation of histone deacetylase (HDAC) activity is an epigenetic hallmark of multiple myeloma (MM), leading to aberrant gene expression and cellular signaling in myeloma cell growth, survival and resistance to therapy. Hyper-methylation at diagnosis is a frequent observation, which eventually may convert to hypo-methylation during advanced phases.

Areas Covered: A literature search on 'HDAC inhibitors' and 'multiple myeloma' was carried out using PubMed and Google Scholar in the preparation of this overview on clinical efficacy and safety data.
