Background: Lupus podocytopathy (LP) is a non-immune complex-mediated glomerular lesion in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), characterized by the diffuse effacement of podocyte processes without immune complex deposition or with only mesangial immune complex deposition. LP is a rare cause of nephrotic syndrome in SLE patients with implications for prognosis and treatment.
Case Report: We present the case of a 28-year-old woman with a medical history of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) who presented with lower limb edema, dyspnea, hypercholesterolemia, with nephrotic range proteinuria, without acute kidney injury, and laboratory findings compatible with auto-immune hemolytic anemia.

Background: Signal-averaged electrocardiogram (SAECG) records myocardial depolarization, and can detect inhomogeneous/slow conduction in fibrotic myocardium, which promotes reentrant ventricular arrhythmias (VAs). Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is associated with a high prevalence of cardiac fibrosis and VAs, but abnormal SAECG has low predictive power for VAs. We hypothesized that HCM-specific structural/electrical remodeling underlies this result.

Strongyloidiasis is a neglected, soil-transmitted helminth infection prevalent worldwide. The true burden of strongyloidiasis is unclear due to the lack of sensitive, field-friendly diagnostic tests. PCR tests to detect DNA in stool are sensitive and specific, but the need for expensive equipment limits their use in endemic regions.

Background: Hygiene-based practices of lubrication, genital cleansing, postcoital urination, and rectal douching are common behaviors among populations at higher risk of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/sexually transmitted infections (STI). Yet, the role these behaviors have on HIV/STI risk has not been well elucidated, especially among transgender women (TW) and gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM). Additionally, advances in biomedical strategies have heralded a new era of HIV/AIDS prevention that may be accompanied by behavioral changes that lead to decreases in condom usage and subsequent changes to STI sequelae.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the frequency and type of endodontic procedural errors in cases indicated for retreatment through cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) analysis.
Materials And Methods: The sample consisted of 96 CBCT scans, encompassing 122 permanent teeth with fully formed roots. Errors included perforation, instrument fracture, canal transportation, missed canals, and inadequate apical limit of filling.

: Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is a renal replacement therapy modality in which the dialysis dose can be individually adapted according to the patients' residual kidney function (RKF). RKF is a crucial factor for technique and patient survival. Pharmacological strategies aimed at slowing the loss of RKF in patients on PD are limited.

Background: Increasing prioritization of quality primary health care (PHC) includes community engagement as a key element to improve PHC performance. We assessed the correlation of good regional management practices with PHC performance in Peru in community-comanaged PHC that is designed with multiple accountability mechanisms.
Methods: We conducted a secondary analysis of a survey of Dirección Regional de Salud (regional health directorates, DIRESAs) regarding their management of public PHC services with collaborative community involvement by a Comunidad Local de Administración de Salud (Local Community for Health Administration, CLAS).
Introduction: The Uniform Determination of Death Act (UDDA) ensures that individuals with irreversible cessation of circulatory, respiratory, or brain functions receive timely palliative care. Our research has focused on identifying disparities in mortality among individuals with Down syndrome (DS) based on gender, age, racial groups, and geographic regions within the United States over 22 years. This study aims to analyze differences in the location of death, including hospitals, nursing homes, hospice care facilities, and unspecified locations, considering demographic and regional variables.

Introduction: Health challenges in the 21st century underscore the need for adaptable and innovative approaches in public health. Academic institutions can and should contribute much more effectively to generate and translate scientific knowledge that will result in better programmes to improve societal health. Academic accountability to local communities and society requires universities to actively engage with local communities, understanding the context, their needs, and leveraging their knowledge and local experience.

Objective: To demonstrate how the new internationally comparable instrument, the People's Voice Survey, can be used to contribute the perspective of the population in assessing health system performance in countries of all levels of income.
Methods: We surveyed representative samples of populations in 16 low-, middle- and high-income countries on health-care utilization, experience and confidence during 2022-2023. We summarized and visualized data corresponding to the key domains of the World Health Organization universal health coverage framework for health system performance assessment.

Background: Waist reduction by ultrasound-guided monocortical fracture (RibXcar), usually performed on floating ribs, may show limitations when performed on false ribs (9 and 10) because of the stress force exerted on the anterior fixation point (cartilage union to sternum). Hence, we introduced a procedure for conversion from false to floating ribs to improve the final result of the treatment of false ribs through a rib treatment scheme.
Methods: Forty-nine female patients undergoing rib surgery were recruited.

Background: The rejuvenation and restoration of a well-defined jawline contour are crucial for enhancing facial aesthetics in both men and women. Within the jawline aesthetic unit (mandibular angle), the masseter muscle plays a significant role, as it is responsible for mandibular masticatory movements. We propose a new approach using ultrasound-guided intramuscular fat transfer to enhance the mandibular angle and jawline.

Background: Health policymakers aiming to reduce under-5 mortality (U5M) often lack data regarding how successful interventions in other countries were implemented. The Exemplars in U5M Study identified countries that achieved significant reductions in amenable U5M. This case study in Peru used implementation research to explore the contextual factors and strategies that contributed to the successful implementation of key evidence-based interventions (EBIs).

The Humboldt penguin () population at the Punta San Juan Marine Protected Area in Peru is considered critical to the long-term sustainability of this endangered species in Peru. Exposure of the rookery to environmental toxicants is a mounting concern because of regional growth of industries and human populations. Whole blood samples were collected from 30 free-ranging penguins in 2011 as part of a broader population health monitoring program.

Background: Rib remodeling is a surgical technique for waist shaping in women and men. However, one of the main patient complaints is the scar. We aimed to describe a scarless, ultrasound-guided rib remodeling (RibXcar) technique that assessed the degree of angular variation of the fracture by ultrasound and the variation in waist measurement and patient satisfaction through a survey.

The premise of health as a human right in Latin America has been challenged by health system fragmentation, quality gaps, a growing burden of chronic disease, sociopolitical upheaval, and the COVID-19 pandemic. We characterised inequities in health system quality in Colombia, Mexico, Peru, and Uruguay. We did a cross-sectional telephone survey with up to 1250 adults in each country.

High-quality care is essential for improving health outcomes, although many health systems struggle to maintain good quality. We use data from the People's Voice Survey-a nationally representative survey conducted in 14 high-income, middle-income, and low-income countries-to describe user-reported quality of most recent health care in the past 12 months. We described ratings for 14 measures of care competence, system competence, and user experience and assessed the relationship between visit quality factors and user recommendation of the facility.
